You should give The Buried Giant a go, it's such a beautiful story about an older couple, growing old together, time and forgetting. It got negative reviews because it is partly fantasy and fantasy readers were disappointed as it is not a traditional fantasy novel. I would say it is a literary novel with fantasy elements.

The longest I've ever had a book sat on my shelf unread was 12 years. I bought it in 2007, aged 12, and finally read it in 2019, aged 24. I had literally doubled in age between buying it and reading it, but it was absolutely worth the wait and it was my favourite book of the year, and I'm not sure I'd have fully appreciated it had I read it aged 12. It took me a decade to get to, but I definitely read it at the right time and not a minute too soon. It was David Copperfield by Charles Dickens for anyone interested 😂

It's *very* impressive that you've read over 90%; i can't imagine who'd think that's a low percentage! Did you count books you DNF'ed as read? I think it's fair to, bc you gave them a go and decided they weren't for you, but just wondered... you seem to know your reading taste very well, so it may be you chose so well you finished them all. Also can't remember if you've mentioned if your attitude toward DNF'ing has changed over time (i feel like most of us get better at it over time). Congrats on 60k+ subscribers!! You so deserve it!

I loved A Place Called Winter, it's the only Patrick Gale book I've read. But I really like historical fiction and especially books about people trying to make a living off the land in cold places (quite niche!). I think it is a good book and emotionally definitely pulled me in but it's quite straight forward in the way it's written and a little convenient in parts if that would put you off.

I was guessing 60 unread books, which still would have been an amazing result. Good job! Most of my unread books are yeaaaars on my shelf’s and I am reading less and less every year. I am not sure if I should go on a book buying ban or purge them all haha. But I think it will all just stay the same. On another note: do you know books and lalas closet unhaul series? It has the same concept (a little more gamified). I lived for that series so this video is my favorite content ever!! Much love! ❤️

I'll look forward to the reading vlogs! You've also given me an idea for catching up on some of my unread books (and I'm afraid my ratio is probably much worse, though since I don't keep track I don't have to know how much worse 😅). I keep my unread books on a separate shelf and organize them very roughly by when I got them, with most recent at eye level and going outward from there. So I'm thinking in April or May I'll devote a month to just reading books from the top or bottom shelf, because I am still excited about most of them!

I love The Tenant of Wildfell Hall!! It is spooky and gothic and feminist. Goodbye to Berlin is also really cool. It felt like a time capsule of a community that was just about to be torn apart. It's this really interesting autobiographical picture of 30's Berlin. I read it a decade ago but I still think about it a lot. I also really liked A Place Called Winter. Congratulations on 60k! 🥳 I guessed 100 hauled, 20 unread - wasn't far off with the unread number, but the percentage was wrong 😄 My percentage would probably have been 50% unread at least 😬 I read The Buried Giant for book club a while ago. Books With Lala did a great 'reacting to my old vlogs' series, a 'reading my tbr' one, and she played her old video and paused it to react, and it was hilarious. i had the Patrick Gale, i didn't read it, it has the kind of beautiful (i guess i mean prettyy) writing you're more into than me and it's got lgbtqi in it, so you'd be more into it than me. I think it would be easy to read at the sentence level/style (as opposed to, stupid plotting etc). But you said you found Ruman Alaam's book hard to read, i found the beautiful prose with hilarious jokes really easy. I read a Ludmila P___ book years ago during the soviet era when she was new, and loved it, but that is a long time ago.... that and By Night Mountain Burns are what i'm adding to me tbr, who's the translator? In general, if it's Jull Costa i try it. Sparrow sounds good. But i will check those last two on goodreads first.

goodbye to berlin is funny but slight, jamaica inn is crap/silly, and i'd say Rebecca is good. Wildfell Hall is typically Bronte ie depressing, but readable. It's supposed to be very feminist. Ovid is bloodthirsty and vomit-inducing. Buried Giant is easy his popular, emotional fiction like Never Let Me Go, not his complex, but it's very feeling and atmosphere. Because i'm very into prehistory/dark ages, it's period setting is fascinating, it's both factual (early saxons displacing/fighting Celtic tribes) and unreal (Arthurian legend) simultaneously: he posits that the early British myths (mabinogion, arthurian legend, King Alfred tales) cover a particular historical period. Never Let Me Go was basically 'starcrossed romance' this is 'dementia ruins marriage', so if you liked the Lurve or the scifi in NLMG, you won't like it, but if you don't mind fantasy rather than scifi in your semi-realism and can live without Lurve interest, you'll like it. Also, the plot doesn't resolve so keenly: you have to work it out. It's not a 'couldn't be bothered to finish it' type of you resolve it, rather, you have to be Sherlock Holmes.
