I really love that whenever you are presenting a book in translation you always mention the name of the author and the name of the translator. We need more people to show such appreciation for the work that translators do! Thank you Jen! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a very happy new year.

Hi Jen. As a fairly new viewer I just wanted to say thank you for a lovely calming video which appeared just when I needed it. Anxiety is a big thing for me this week and walking with you - all those fat squirrels (or squiggles as they are known in my house), and wildlife and trees and I just felt a little more peaceful as I watched. Wishing you a peaceful, happy and successful 2022.

There’s no such thing as an easy job sounds quite interesting! Thanks to you I keep discovering so many great books :) I wanted to ask you if you’ve heard of the novel “What you can see from here” by Mariana Leky. If you haven’t view this as a recommendation. The book is translated from the german and follows a woman named Selma who lives in a small village in western Germany. Sometimes she has a dream of an okapi and whenever that happens someone in her village dies. I hope you haven’t seen this one yet ✨happy holidays!

@@jenvcampbell All the best to you too. Today’s video truly embraced the ‘be nice’ spirit that helps keep us boosted in these times. I so appreciate your wonderful videos. I searched through a lot of booktubers over the weekend, and did not find anyone new that I want to follow. You’ve spoiled me with your smarts and deep compassion. And baking. And the Heath. Plus the cutest doggie. Cheers!

I love your piping work on the gingerbread cookies. Mrs. March also gave me Clarice Lispector vibes. I really enjoyed listening to There's No Such Thing As An Easy Job. Favorite line: "The tree planting poster was covered in a textile-inspired clover pattern, with copy that read 'Make Our Town Greener!' - while the water conservation one featured a slightly unnerving image of a human silhouette kneeling down creature-like on all fours to lap at a big drop of water coming out of a tap with the slogan 'Water Belongs to Everyone' in a bold font."

I am also a person who hates coriander!! Can't bear it!! Lol. I totally agree when you said that you don't mind an unlikeable character, but there has to be more to it. This exactly. I read the woman in white a couple of years ago, enjoyed it but didn't adore it. I buddy read it, which added a good layer for me to discuss it throughout. Loved the reading vlog as always x

It's late here while I'm watching this and I'm pretty tired, which probably explains why I tried for about 10 minutes to find an alternative book to The Hierarchies before finally figuring out that the book I was thinking of was -- wait for it -- The Hierarchies. In my defense, the US cover is much different from the UK cover. The Wilkie Collins audio book sounds intriguing -- a good narrator can really elevate the listening experience!

i haven't read the wilkie collins and "the sparrow'...i'm left with fond feelings but no actual memory of "the woman in white' and little memory of the sparrow wither. i'm so glad you're reading 'no such thing as any easy job', which i'd have chosen if i were on instagram, because i think i'd like it.

.....Lionel Shriver, you naaaaaasty, ugh. Anyways, books I bought cause they remind me of other books...maybe not the same, but after reading In the Dream House, I leap at anything by Carmen Maria Machado. Even if she only editted it or wrote an afterword or something. Not the same as getting a book cause it reminds you of another book -- but oddly I don't think I do that very often hmm... o_o;
