Have I torn my Pec tendon? Quite possibly!
Eek!
This is my own experience as a Physio on how to manage a Pec tendon tear in the early phase. I will discuss what I am doing in the acute pre-operative phase of a Lower Pectoralis Major tendon rupture and will document my recovery and rehab in future videos as the story unfolds.

Great message. I had a tear like 3 weeks ago and got back in the gym last week. No surgery. My injury looks a lot like your picture so I'm thankful it isn't worse and I can train around it like you said. Thanks man.

@@elizabethtara7658 the doctor recommended MRI but i just waited to heal. But i knew it was torn as soon as it occurred (during bench press). I had a pop and intense pain, then about five days until I have full range of motion. It may take a while for full recovery and compensation of the area, but i am already back in gym training like 10 days after injury occurred

I tore my pec possibly. I have mobility with my arm but pressing I felt some discomfort. My plan to rehab is legs 3 times a week , back twice a week and machine press when I get cleared. Not sure if I’ll have to get surgery.

I didn't get surgery myself and I took off 8 weeks before working out again. So far, so good.

I tore mine just like yours overextended while at savage race I used a ring to swing over but ended up pulling all my weight on one arm and that’s how it happened. I was tired though so the fatigue clouded my judgement.

Er did nothing for me and told me to leave it, I felt the tear on the bench press. My full bicep and from my arm pit down under my nipple is the darkest shade of purple imaginable. I can flex The pec but it’s twice the size as the other one l. Should I push for an MRI? Happened a week ago

It feels like electricity arching back and forth I could practically hear it, I tore mine in 2007 it's still torn

I couldn’t for the life of me describe that sound/feel but your 100% right. Like power lines breaking. Are you weaker on that side today?

I tore my chest arm tendon I worked through it but didn't put much weight on my left side kept my arm close to my body it hurt for 3 months I didn't notice it anymore

@@GoodByeSkyHarborLive it was in 2007 I worked at Ole miss university worked through graduation after i tore it hundreds of chairs lot's of physical work tore it on a Friday lifting weights with coworkers at Turner gym on lunch break without a membership got up to 300 something they were supposed to support the heavy weight for me I took it off the bar I brought it down too fast I had to catch it to keep it from slamming into me when I caught it i tore my tendon apart I thought I dislocated my shoulder at first I realized it was something on top of the bone I told them to get it off I had to ask three times they kept telling me to push it they said could do it, "ha" they didn't know I was hurt shy people don't seem to Express pain as easily as others i was mad though I didn't know how to do the $1,000 medical deductible thing so I didn't go to the hospital went to work on Monday when it happened it felt like electricity arching back and forth more so than like regular pain. I don't text back and forth alot, so that how it happened and a bit how it was. Hum, I tried not to sleep on that side and pain pills don't work it's faster to just go to sleep to not feel it. I'm retired now, in 2015 I drank the water at Ole miss seems to have messed up my vascular and shrank my kidneys they've had lots of broken pipes and water problems most the time dirty looking sometimes tastes like metal or too much chlorine later on in a year the water look clean smell clean taste clean but I couldn't get hydrated off of it, a bottle of water out of the vending machine could hydrate me but i couldn't keep drinking $2 water through out the day it was some time later when i thought it could be the water out of the water fountain it was too dry too bitter like they Over cleaned it bitter like that water in that Bible story I guess, and the doctors made things worse the doctors put me on some yellow looking iv fluids for 4 days that made me swell up then said i needed emergency dialysis clumsy nurses sticking through the fistula in my arm causing blood and fluid to swell up in my arms, and the dialysis tubes they put in the neck and chest cause scarring and blood clots they had to clean those out put some surgical stents, nurses kept missing the dialysis fistula doctors put in my arm causing my arm to swell up with blood and fluid doctors digging through my arm damaged my lymph nodes my arm just stays swollen doctors put a dialysis graft in my right leg and nurses and doctors cause hematomas and infections it had to be cut out doctors put dialysis tubes in my leg so they can keep doing dialysis they left a hole open in my leg opened so infection could drain out stay open for 30 days over a month I had to clean it and bandaging myself at home doctors put another dialysis graft in my left leg they caused more hematomas and infections nurses miss the sticks a lot the sticking the hit nerves a lot also the nurses infected the new graft i got 6 weeks of antibiotics this time I told the doctor I don't stick myself i got a kidney transplant this year on April 3rd 2022 things are good well they're okay very little money in an early retirement or Social Security oh well, That's enough

4:34 so that brusing is exactly where the pec major tendon inserts like if you were to touch it you would be touching the tendon? is the the lat tendon also right below there?

I’ve torn mine 2 months ago And they said they can’t do surgery. My pec is deformed and got more shoulder pain now

Is there a way to avoid a surgery if you have a full pec tear shown on MRI ?

Only other option is leave it, and rehab it best you can. Surgery is not always necessary, but may depend on what you do for work and lifestyle

Any ice or sauna treatment? Any stretching regimen? Massage?

Do all of the above and it will feel a lot better. The only way to have it completely fixed is to get surgery. However, if you do not get surgery, I would recommend take a good 2 months off from any Chest or Shoulder workout to it can heal as best as possible. When you go back to the gym use Universal Machines and go from there.

I'm going through hell 8 weeks radiates i to breast.. no swelling.. I think ice and movement has made worse.. oh plesse help me.. I can't cope any longer

I also tore something on my chest I’m going through hell as well . How is your healing ? Did you get a mri ?

Same! Some of the worst pain I've ever felt. I felt a strain or tear then pushed through training the next day. I regret this decision. I'm now in some of the most excruciating pain. Hospital gave me tramadol, oxy, and toradol and still have pain.

I injured myself bench pressing last week. It occurred on the concentric portion of the lift on my non-dominant (left) side. The sensation wasn't a pop, but more like two pieces of sand paper rubbing together. I was able to finish the press and there was only moderate pain and no bruising or obvious deformity. Does this sound consistent with a tear?

I just had this, what was your outcome? Later tonight, it still felt "tired" like when you reach failure on an exercise and the muscle just doesn't want to move anymore. No obvious deformations, but it does look little red (very little) in the spot he showed in video.

@@nameless-og It wasn't a tear given the absence of muscle deformity and only slight bruising a week out. After talking with doctor friends it was most likely a tendon strain or myofascial release of old scar tissue from years of lifting. I gave it couple weeks rest and slowly started benching again with light weight while also incorporating more stretching and warm up. I also narrowed my grip after seeing many KZbin videos recommending it to reduce re-injury risk.

@eightoeightmiles I had been wondering about release too, my sternum had been aching earlier in the week like it was expanding a bit on the same side. Thanks for letting me know! 👍 I'm going to get an appointment to check it out just in case, but I'm a little less worried now at least

If you had a pec tear and opted not to do surgery how are you feeling today? Anyone suggests doing the surgery or just healing naturally and the longterm effects?

I personally didn't do the surgery. I literally took 8 weeks off and didn't do anything. So far, so good and I know longer do any barbell work. Just dumbbells and I do not lift heavy anymore. I still ice the area daily and use a massager daily as well.

So basically I’m a junior in high school and the 2nd day of the semester started I’m in weightlifting class and and we started lifting and getting our max and it’s my first Time lifting in bout 3 years or so and the day after the side of both my pecs and shoulders is swollen and limited range of motion and and I put icy hot pretty much anything to help it Ik it a muscle strain of some sort what should I do I wanna pass this class but not sure how I would go abt it and any tips to how to treat it

Hard to be sure without assessing but it's not a good idea to push through injury as you can potentially risk long term issues

I felt something pop in my chest with instant pain when doing a swinging arm warm up before exercising. It doesnt hurt to flex my chest muscle and my range of motion seems fine but it hurts to touch in a very specific area and there is a constant dull pain. Been using ibuprofen and avoiding pushing movement. Possible pec tear?

After mri , I have PEC grade 1 strain , do I need surgery?? I feel muslse is thinner then before. What should I do ? Please I need your advice

Hello , unfortunately I don't have insurance so going to the doctor is not an option for me. If I tore my pec is there a specific way to know ? Will there be bruising? I was bench pressing and felt a small tear and saw my right pec jump up ....no bruising but sore around my armpit and upper pec area. I have full range of motion . I was actually able to hold the weight up and rack the bar with no problem when it happened so the bar didn't come down on me. ... I am done flat bench pressing for life after this but plan on continuing with dumbbells .... Don't want to try if it's torn though....

Hard to know for sure, even the orthopaedic pec specialist couldn't be sure after a an examination until MRI on me. If there is nit much bruising then is is either a tendon or musculotendinous junction partial or full tear rather than muscle, especially if pain is armpit and not chest

I just had this happen. Same thing i was able to get the bar back up. I am not going to train until i find out what it is. I had an MRI and am waiting on the report before i do anything else. I think i fully tore it, but i wondered the same thing, how did i get the bar back up again if its fully ruptured?
