I watch football for the players, though I appreciate innovative tactics. There’s a lack of flair, high level dribbling, & sharpshooter’s from outside the 18 in today’s game. We watch sports for entertainment at the end of the day!

3 minutes in and Cams already speaking on the real issues in football. So spot on about the things people talk about after a game being focused on the wrong things. Football won't go back to how it was imo, because too many casuals are diluting real football conversations. It's all polarized and agenda based, and with a new generation growing up on "modern football" it will only get worse.

I understand where cam is coming from, but the tactical side has made football more enjoyable in my opinion. As a fan I want to know why players do what they do in a game, this tactical/system-oriented side of the game makes me appreciate the levels it takes to play at the top level. This is why people prefer to watch the top leagues rather than Sunday league.

Spot on mate, Pep said it himself 'managers are overrated in football', basketball discourse where more focus is put on the players is way better, even though coaches are arguably more important there.
@rj_4mp100
@rj_4mp100 Жыл бұрын
Really? I would argue that basketball discourse is absolutely toxic because of the level of power the players have. So many stan accounts, Kyrie Irving, Lebron vs MJ topics on ESPN every single day, coaches getting fired by pampered superstars that refuse to take accountability, Kyrie Irving, load management, Kyrie Irving, etc. Have I mentioned Kyrie Irving?

The transition from individual brilliance to a system player, a great example was henry. Guy was different gravy at arsenal but at barca he wasn't the same player, still did well. Theres a clip where he spoke about how pep was annoyed if henry didnt stay on the left wing.

I would say Real Madrid are the only elite team that play with individuals that can play in any style of football. They can press from the front, can counter attack and can dominate on the ball. That's why you see Rodrygo, Benzema and Valverde seem like they pop up anywhere.

I hear your argument but even with the shift to system focused game, the players still need to step up and complete the job. Look at Klopp and Liverpool this season? Yes the system is there, but the players cannot compete. It doesn’t matter which 11 plays, for the most part Systems are an essential part of the modern game, every player needs to have a clear set of instructions of where to be, and how to proceed over the 90mins. Ancelotti relied on the individual brilliance of his players to win last years UCL. Yea, it was enthralling and exciting to watch but it’s simply not a sustainable route to success. For clubs that don’t have that footballing heritage arrogance of Madrid, they need to win in other ways Saka done it under 3 managers at Arsenal. He also does it for England, in a completely different system. (Kinda crazy how he didn’t mention Rashford in Ten Hags system when presenting the argument lol)

Biggest reason why football changed to what it is now has been the increased pressure and benefits of winning. Human will adapt to what the most efficient way to win is because not winning will have castigated and put on fraud watch by us fans.

I feel the difference from then and now is that managers like Ferguson, Ancelotti, Mourinho and Benitez were not tactical dogmas like Pep,Klopp & even Conte himself. Managers are more important than they have ever been and I feel it let’s players off the hook for their poor showings. People still watch the game for the players and it still remain the case today but you can see why managers are the highest paid person at the club rather than the star player.

I saw someone say united can't win with Casemiro because you can't be a top team with your cdm average 70 something pass rate and I knew the end was near because now cdm's are no longer suppose to be just destroyers and protect the backline now they must be maestro on the ball as well if so what does the other midfielders jobs gonna be, if the cdm is all that.
@Kzeditzzz387

Is this linked to a players freedom on the pitch. Like a player who is less restricted to a certain style or areas they pick up. Like kdb is restricted to the half space and right wing occasionally similar to salah and rashford they have certain instructions they do every game . This is so different to a old school players who had license to roam and more responsibility if a move fails or not
@Kzeditzzz387
@Kzeditzzz387 Жыл бұрын
I look at Henry hazard young fabregas you could mention much more but these came to my head. They had so much license and they had a lot of responsibility if an attack worked or not Now if a move fails is it cause this player didnt hold the width is it cause the defensive line was too low and no defender was able to recycle the ball now there’s a tactical excuse rather than a player not being good enough
@manis1551
@manis1551 Жыл бұрын
Carlo Ancelotti is probably the last manager that allows his players to have freedom which worked for them last season in the UCL but he's been criticised this season as his attackers don't have a clue on how to break down a low block team while also looking disjointed in their transition from defence to attack and if we were to be honest Madrid were outplayed in most of their matches in last season UCL. I watch football for the flair players but it seems big clubs will likely hire managers who are system focused as its seen more efficient and that the modern fans/journalists/pundits are far more interested in the tactical side of the game.

I hear where some people are coming from when they bemoan the loss of individuality in football, but why don’t we look at what systems *have* brought to football: a huge rise in competitiveness and quality among the “midtable” clubs. Brighton, Brentford and present day Newcastle would not be beating top 6 teams if it weren’t for the elite systems that they play in and the reduced dependence on having multiple £100 million Galacticos in your team. Heck, look at how competitive the fight at the bottom is. It’s also made football so much more watchable these days; no longer am I only watching the Arsenal or Man Utd game every week and groaning when there isn’t a big 6 side playing.

I'm sorry I have to disagree, when people mention napoli they always mention kvara and osimhen and how they will be 100m players and play for madrid/barca no one really speaks on spaletti. Same with Real in the UCL everyone speaks on modric, benz, and vini.

Systems has always been a thing! Wenger came in and brought the 4231 the number 10 system became a thing as berkamp stamped it. Henry was still Henry. Sir Alex had 442 two out and out wingers put ball in the box 2 striker to score. everyone still hyped Cole n yorke. It’s social media that came and started putting in words lol. This isn’t boxing a manager has to find a system to suit the players he has if he does he’s praised simple.

Lot of dross in that dressing room and it's easy to get complacent in an elite stadium in a nice bit of London but Kane & Son really should want better for themselves than terminal underachievement. Just looking at that as a microcosm of what Conte said, if either of them forced a move away it might make some execs start to question things, but you see them and the others comfy spinning their wheels and his comments make sense.

No it'll never go back because the manager/data/system driven approach is more efficient. It's also why long shot goals are less common as well. It's like asking if we can go back to a world without cell phones because it has negative ramifications on society. Not going to happen.
