Hi Katherine, my lovely, my fridays' sunshine, my ears' delight, my rose of england 🌹😊 This is such a beautiful lesson. I could listen to you read for hours for you have this ability to really make us love the language. All is in the note, the right note like in music, all is in the rhythm, all is in the intentionality. Let me explain, in fact it is a bit like the fables of Lafontaine that all young french pupil is exposed to in primary school usually (for example, the crow and the fox, the dog and the wolf etc ...). Of course this is not a question that all teachers should be actors or comedians in addition to being educators. But most of the time you will have teachers who will read them in a monocord if not a monotone tone, without real expressivity. Beside, and regarding the fables in that case, that they will often insist on the moral of the fable. Somehow, emphasis is placed on substance over form ... In my humble opinion, this is a mistake, and it seems to me that we're missing the point, because we don't really and fundamentally care about the moral of the fable itself (even though it's often very interesting and often provides food for thought): The most important thing, it seems to me, is the language itself, the choice of the words, the form, the way, the journey itself, the path taken by the author, creating a love of words and language with its rhythm, its breathing, its pauses, what I called above 'putting intentionality into it', 'Finding the right note'; which is I think, at the bottom, the essential part of the interpreter or actor's work who must render the text of the author by being as close as possible to what the latter intended to transmit. And if you do that, then not only do you convey the beauty of the text, the beauty of the language, but the subject matter illuminates itself and this 'moral' or 'little lesson in life' or in things in the case of these fables or the substance of the text becomes naturally intelligible from itself. A good reading and 80% of the way, work on the intelligibility of the subject is carried out I would say ... You obviously understood that and I love the way you read. You manage to 'FIND THE RIGHT NOTE'! (being a musician probably helps you;-) and it’s beautiful and you manage beautifully to transmit the love for words, literature, poetry and language. I think you could have been a wonderful actress, anyway, we feel like you’re already a talented tale teller. This is what a number of academic teachers probably lack in my opinion: inspiration, breath, enthusiasm, a touch of madness perhaps to instill passion for the texts and the beauty of the language in their students; Would you agree with that perhaps? ... Thank you Katherine, as always I loved the lesson and your love for words and the verb which, in turn, make us love English and your lessons. Thanks for that and a bit sorry for the probably too long post again today's episode inspired me to write. But when you love, you don't count, right? ... ;-) 🙏👏👏 Bisous, have a sweet end of day and a lovely weekend! See ya soon 😘🌹❤

I learned American English in Brazil then moved to the UK and noticed that I started picking up some elements of British English but I reckon comprehension is optimal when you combine the (American) rhotic R, (British) T resolution and some British vowels, particularly A as in fast (rather then "fest"). That clears the distinction Americans can't get between A and E at times.
