"In the next 24 hours, over 3,000 American teens will attempt to take their own lives. According to the Center for Disease Control, 25% of American young adults are struggling with suicidal thoughts.
When you watch Have “The Talk” to Stop Teen Suicide, you’ll enter into a world of deadly silences and bone-chilling revelations. Along the way, Have The Talk to Stop Teen Suicide delivers the clues and keys you need to break the deadly silences and prevent the guilt-nightmare that haunts parents, classmates, teachers, and friends following a suicide attempt.
Have “The Talk” to Stop Teen Suicide includes the purely preventative, science-based, 4-step script for The Talk About Suicide. It’s a powerful model for communicating on a topic no one wants to talk about. Jackie believes having The Talk About Suicide just might save your child’s life.
Jackie Simmons, - Jackie@TeenSuicidePreventionSociety.org - is an international speaker, the host of The Suicide Prevention Show, the co-founder of the Teen Suicide Prevention Society, and the author/compiler of the book: Make It A Great Day: The Choice Is Yours and author of The “Why Not?” Workbook: Breaking the Silence on Teen Suicide.
Jackie believes that teen suicides can be prevented. This is truly a case where an ounce of prevention is worth way more than a pound of cure.
" Jackie likes for things to make sense and she’s your advocate for a better life. Jackie’s the creator of Your Path from Self-Sabotage to Self-Empowerment: How to Make Money While Making Massive Difference in the World.
The mission that drives Jackie’s life is to make suicide, especially teen suicide, a thing of the past.
When you work with Jackie, she’ll invite you to discover what's true and what's not true for you. She'll offer you a different perspective and help you spot the elephant in the room that’s creating self-sabotage in your life. Together you'll turn that elephant into your path to self-empowerment.
Jackie’s a multiple best-selling author, Radio Show Host, Business Coach, and Mission-Driven Mentor This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Bravo!! The script for "The Talk" is brilliant, especially asking them their reasons for staying until they have no more. When my husband was suicidal nearly 4 years ago and was getting intensive support, I made the very common mistake of assuming that he could see all the reasons I could see for him to stay. I found out too late that he couldn't see a single one of them - not even our beautiful children or his mother, much less the trauma his suicide would create for them. When someone is that far down the rabbit hole of despair, they can only see the pain, not the hope. Your talk is brilliant because it gets to people before they are engulfed in the pain, so they can find and see the reasons to stay themselves (with the help of the person having the talk with them). Knowing your own reasons to stay is priceless. It can help you stay out of the pit of despair and help you get the help you need to climb out before you get too far into the pit. I couldn't save my husband, but now I have a powerful tool for helping my kids and so many others. Thank you!

This was an excellent talk. As I was listening to it, I couldn't help but think back to 7 years ago when my daughter tried to kill herself and the years of treatment after that. I especially resonated about the comment on making sure that they know their worth. I remember constantly about the challenges that both myself and her therapist had trying to convince her of her self-worth when she was so certain that she had no meaning in life. My biggest challenge was being a person who normally likes to have everything in control being faced with a situation that I had no idea on what to do. The rest of the family wanted me to fix the problem quickly and I felt helpless with anything I did made someone angry with me. Thank you for your message!

@Jackie Simmons gives such a compelling argument for parents to be preventive in their efforts to help young people not to commit suicide. As a 50-year psychotherapist, I can't agree with her more! She's sharing the power of this quote, "children get hurt by what they don't know about." Just talking can help teens know more, feel more connected, have reasons not to attempt suicide. Jackie's delivery is powerful, full of emotion, self-revealing and inspiring. Thank you, Jackie! And congratulations on your fabulous talk.

Thank you Jackie and Stephanie. This is so critically important. There is something profoundly broken in our society when this many of our youth are seeking to leave this way. I love the message of conversation before intervention - life is too precious to risk waiting for “signs”.

Utterly gripping and a powerful message that everyone needs to hear. This is the kind of raw, honest, and real share that cracks open needed conversations between parents and children, between friends, and between all of those who would be haunted by the absence of a loved one - lost to suicide.

Thank you, Jackie, for sharing your story. It is so important that we communicate with our children about this. If we, the parents, overcome our fears, guilt and shame, we can build a bridge toward our children and prevent them from hurting themselves.

Heart stopping!! I think as a parent and now a grandparent, one of my greatest fears has been that my child or grandchild would choose to die rather than to live, despite being born into a miraculous world full of infinite possibilities. Thank you Jackie for sharing this amazing message of courage and hope. Let's make "teen suicide" a thing of the past and let's empower our young people to recognize in themselves the leaders of the future that they are destined to be. So excited to be part of the Mission! Love and blessings to you, Jackie and Stephanie, for your courage and vision!
