Using the Bible as a weapon will turn off the lay person, people do not respond to condemnation, they need to understand the love of our Lord and Savior first, then we need to feed them the Bible in bits until they understand that the Bible is really our friend and guide. Thank you for sharing !!!

How would you explain to people that the Bible endorsed slavery with instructions ?

This subject will hopefully be one we tackle in the future. In the meantime, we can offer a few thoughts and two helpful resources. The Bible did not institute slavery, but it also did not abolish it outright. Instead, over time, it increasingly regulated and sought to subvert the very institution through the unfolding revelation of the Kingdom of God and the way that we are to follow Jesus in love for God and others. Understanding what this means requires some thoughtful discussion, and we recognize that it’s often easier to simply make the charge that the Bible condones slavery and therefore conclude that the Christian faith cannot be true. Even though we could point out numerous faulty assumptions with this approach, we want to take the time to address those while acknowledging the tension we feel when we wish the Bible dealt more squarely with such an obvious evil. Here is one resource that provides some background and acknowledges this tension: www.gotquestions.org/Bible-slavery.html Also, many don’t know that the letter to Philemon is written to a slave owner with a request that he not only forgive his runaway slave but that he free him as a brother in Christ. The Bible Project has a helpful introduction to the letter that provides this background in a video: bibleproject.com/explore/video/philemon/
