You have revolutionized the way I view manicures. You have changed my opinion on what's ok to do and what not, what should be fixed rather than masked. You've given me hope to heal my damage and taught me patience and believing in the process rather than expecting perfection on Day 1. And most importantly, you've helped me achieve self-acceptance for imperfections and the attitude "It is what it is". I am especially impressed you take the time to read ingredient lists on creams and consult chemists about the ones you don't know. This is the best nail channel on KZbin and the only one that approaches things like you.

I think it’s great that you give the yellow block and the file to the client after the service. It’s a waste to just throw them away and it’s a nice treat for the client to take home.

I learned to do this from you and it has made a huge difference. After I cut and file my nails they would always be dangerously sharp for a few days. This takes care of that completely. My nails are in much better shape after following all your advice. Thank you!

I've been doing this for at least 10 years. I've never understood why no one does it. I've always used the yellow buffing blocks from Sally

I've not used a block but now will after this video. Thanks so much for your great advice as always.

Yes! I do it every time. I stumbled on it on my own years ago and no one ever talked about it so I thought I was weird. It does a wonderful job smoothing edges after filing! I felt so justified after seeing you do this, too!!

After a disastrous experience with hard gel manicures my already crappy nails were completely trashed, painful, peeling off like onions, I started doing nail soaks, used a buffer along with a gentle file whenever I had rough edges that would snag on everything and used cuticle oil and cream multiple times daily and now several months later I’m well on my way to nails that look better than ever!
@janeburkhart40515 ай бұрын
I always use a glass file so I don't notice any unevenness or roughness after I file. Before I started using glass files I definitely noticed rough edges.
@TheSalonLife5 ай бұрын
I find that gives me smoother finish than glass file :)

Yes, I've used the yellow foam softsense block for years until Sally Beauty stopped carrying them. I tried some that you had recommended but the surface peeled off them after a single use. You later linked to the softsense website so I stocked up on my faves again! I've always done my home manicures by taking of length with a lower grit file, like 180 or 200, then I shape with one between 240/320, then I do the foam block to smooth it all. The advise to use the foam block is such a good one! Sometimes natural nails can feel really sharp if they're not smoothed with the buffing block.

For your own use you don't have to cut them. I cut them because it's a disposable item at the salon so I either throw it away or give it to the client

I've got one question. I would like to start using nail polish for the first time in a decade, for the only reason to retain moisture and let it fix the crookedness of the free edge. However, I don't want my nails to attract attention so I will go for a clear polish and add a mattifying top coat. My question is, can I use just the mattifying polish or do I need more layers beneath? Could I use a ridge filler polish for a base coat and then a matt top coat?

I always smooth the edges like that. I usually use a glass nano file I got from My Bliss Kiss. I know you don’t like the word nano used for a file. I remember you talking and laughing about that. Maybe a better word could have been used, but I don’t mind it. When it comes to files, it just means a really fine/small grit. The Bliss Kiss one has two different grits, both very fine. I like the glass nano file better than a buffer block because it works great and doesn’t go on top of the nail at all. I have very thin, weak nails and do not need them beveled or filed on the top of the nail at any time at all. I also remove cuticle strictly with cuticle remover and a wood stick. I don’t ever buff on top, even gently and only on new growth like you do. I don’t trust myself to do it right and would rather have skin left on the nails, polish peel off, then my nail one little bit. Again-I have thin, weak, crappy nails.

Thank you so much for everything. I have a question and hope you see this: I don’t have “severe” onycholysis on one nail, but rather shortened nailbeds from cleaning them out aggressively in the past. Some tiny parts have reattached a little over time so I am also left with weird looking lines at the free edges. I am following your advice now and want to cut them short following the nailbed in hope that maybe they will attach more over time. My question is, do you recommend filing them gently to smoothen the nails and their edges or do we cut and leave them be? Thanks again for what you are doing, I appreciate it so much:)

Hi there! I love your channel and really trust your opinion on products. I recently saw that essence has brought out new UV gel nail polishes (not the standard ones that you’ve already tested) and is love to hear your opinion on if they’re worth checking out. They’re around 4.99€ / polish so as a girl on a budget that price point is really intriguing to me but I also don’t want to throw away money if they’re not worth it. Thank you!! 🫶🏻

Do you know of any clear pink tint polishes I can use on my natural nails that are conditioning without the harsh chemicals in it? Also I've used the Sally Hansen clear pink tint polish before and everytime I put on a clear polish over my natural nails it feels as though someone is lightly squeezing the sides of my nails and they also become more narrow looking until I remove the clear polish. Are all clear polishes this way and why? Blessings~
