You hear a lot of toffery about how different glasses affect your drinking experience to the point where it's criminal if you use the wrong glass for the wrong drink. Maybe that can be an episode, given it's literally to do with "how to drink". Exploring glasses and whether or not it really does affect the drinking experience _that_ much. Could even wring out two episodes from it, given wine is pretty much a world unto itself, and then spirits and cocktails have their own thing going on.

YOOOOOOO, so stoked you made my drink!! I call it the Benny Bahama, but I like your name for it too lmao. The idea was to try and find ways to use jager in drinks that aren't just party shots. I also do typically light the overproof and splash cinnamon on top for effect. I love your advice and notes and will definitely try your V2 and then try to further evolve the drink to find out what the secret ingredient/ratio is. "The Drink v2" in my opinion should have been made in a stand alone glass up until you want to shake it, then prepare your chilled shaker, pour in 1/4oz of absinthe, shake just the absinthe, and then poor it out leaving only what clings to the ice and shaker itself. Then introduce the rest and shake again. I would also forgo the lime boat personally and just float a spoon or two of the OFTD over the snow and garnish with 2 soaked cherries in the same rum. As far as the pineapple juice goes, I can see how the sweetness might throw off the balance (its a cloying sweetness thay doesn't have much secondary character) and might replace it with like a blood orange juice instead? Might have to bring in a background sweetener at that point though. I know my opinion wasnt really asked for, but I figure as another person who likes to build cocktails you may find another perspective interesting.
@rolux4853
@rolux4853 Жыл бұрын
@@Walrus907interesting idea! Thank you your unwanted input, I love hearing about peoples drink ideas who have some knowledge about cocktails. I just have a few questions: Do you really think your way of using the absinthe gives a drink any difference in taste, then just adding a little bit? I really dislike the idea of discarding a perfectly good spirit, just to have a more fancy looking presentation. It made Sazeracs really dislikable for me, even if I’m a total high quality old fashioned guy amd like the taste of Sazerac a lot on occasion. It’s especially good on hot humid nights and even better when there’s a bit of voodoo in the air ;) Then I just added dashes of absinthe and it tasted completely the same but I didn’t felt guilty afterward so I use this for every cocktail these days where it says „coat the glass“ or something similar. To me good fresh pineapple juice has an amazing flavor profile that definitely has complexity and really is more tart as sweet if it’s completely natural. When the pineapple is exactly right and not to ripe it is amazing and definitely not to sweet. If you take regular store bought stuff your absolutely right however!

I think peak HTD is experimenter flavor-pioneer Greg. An episode or series where you just take a series of slightly off the cuff ingredients or liquers (Domaine Canton’s Ginger Liquer comes to mind) and try to find interesting ways to showcase/use them sounds super entertaining. Not just Pirates Bay Sun Tan Lotion and other nightmares, but using just some slightly odd ingredients and playing with them to see what they can do.

Something I designed largely out of spite was something called the Evil Wizard. Originally it used Fireball - because you gotta have a fireball if you're an evil wizard, right? - but Fireball tastes like it should be part of some kind of industrial ore-refining process so I'm using a different kind of whiskey that someone might actually want to drink. It is intended as a very spirit-forward "blow your face off" cocktail, because I send it to friends I don't like much. Here's the recipe!:- --- *EVIL WIZARD* 2oz Black Bottle blended whisky (you want a sweet but smoky whisky that would work with cinnamon, and also if you use a single malt in a cocktail I will shoot you) 2oz Mr. Black coffee liqueur (combination of colour and combination with the cinnamon flavours) 1oz Lambs navy rum (any very, very dark overproof rum will work, but I like navy rum because I hate myself) 1-2 dash Ango (is it even a cocktail without a dash of ango?) Cinnamon sticks in a cocktail smoker TO MAKE: Build in the shaker and shake with your usual method, one big cube and one crushed cube. Shake until combined, then pour into a mixing glass. Infuse with cinnamon smoke. Then gated pour into an Old Fashioned glass over a large ice cube. Add smoke for decoration. Serve to someone you don't like. =]

I know y’all probably won’t do this again but if given the chance- I make this very girly version of a Zombie (might be incorrect on that- there’s no rum 😅) but it will get you messed up if you can’t stand your family at brunch. I actually used to double all the measurements for myself but it would get me UNBELIEVABLY belligerent: This is The Libra 2oz Gin 1oz Elderflower Liqueur 1/2oz lavender simple syrup (I like a little less if you want it less sweet) 2 dashes of cucumber bitters Pour into a collins glass with ice and top with soda water and peach iced tea. You can also multiply this and put put it in a pitcher as a lovely punch.

In the Netherlands, we've got something similar called Dropshot. It's 'traditionally' made by soaking licorice in vodka. The kinds of licorice vary between recipes and sometimes sugar is added (for example, when using pure, black licorice or very salty (NH4Cl) kinds). There is also a commercial version from one of the large Dutch distilleries (same name).

This drink is quickly rising on my favorite drink menu, been having a hard time finding the name of the drink in my black book so I will post it here to see if anyone recognizes it. Recipe goes as followed: 1. Add ice to a glass (you can shake but I prefer to stir this drink, less dishes), can be served hot as well just remove the ice for the hot version 2. Add 2 oz. of Kalua or Coffee Liqueur whichever is available 3. Add 2 oz. Crème de Cacao or Godiva white/dark or Chocolate liqueur, use which you prefer I typically use Godiva 4. Add .5 oz. Crème de Menthe or 1 sprig of Mint Muddled or Peppermint Schnapps, use which you prefer I typically use Crème de Menthe 5. Fill remainder of glass with one of the following: Half and Half, Almond Milk (If lactose intolerant), Hot chocolate (If you want the hot version) 6. Stir or Shake 7. Garnish how you like, I don't garnish unless I am making this for company 8. Enjoy Quick Warning: This drink will sneak up on you real quick, so please don't drink and drive. Great drink if you want to unwind/need a nap. Thanks in advance to anyone that recognizes this drink. :)

so i posted the names of one of my d&d character's known cocktails on a mixology video, asked what they thought it was, here is what they came out to be Hunter's brew: 1p Jaegermeister 2p ginger beer, stir the Jaegar over ice if not chilled beforehand, strain into collins glass, add one large ice spear, top with ginger beer and garnish with a black spruce sprig if available, (or mint if you're not from the arctic circle... pleb.) Honeyed words: 2p vodka 1dash cinnamon schnappes 3p sweet mead and a pinch of grated nutmeg, shake the vodka and schnappes, strain into a coupe, float the mead on top, dust with nutmeg, express and garnish with an orange peel. A clove is optional. (Resist the urge to use a cinnamon stick) Knight's oath: literally any mulled wine served hot during winter in a beer stein. Bonus if spiked with cheap apricot brandy. Pillow talk: 2p cognac 1p Grand Marnier 2 dashes absinthe stirred over ice and strained into champagne glass, fill with champagne, express and garnish with orange peel like usual.

Great episode Greg!! Here's a recipe I came up with for sipping outside on summer evenings: 1.5oz Amaro CioCiaro 1oz Disaronno 0.25oz Lemon Juice Stir and serve on ice I've never garnished, but I'm sure a lemon twist/wheel would work nicely Best of luck at the idea factory! Thanks for making the show!

Been playing with something close to a Batida but more of a modern tiki. THE STRONG KONG 3oz Coconut Cream 1.5oz pineapple Juice 1.5oz OFTD Overproof Rum 1.5oz Giffards banana .5oz Cream of Coconut The Cream of coconut is tuned to the particular pineapple juice I get which is not that sweet, if using canned try it with just a barspoon of it at first. I also have thought about swapping the cream of coconut with orgeat. Garnish with a banana you sprinkle with sugar and caramelize with a torch and a cherry.

I don't know if you'd take submissions from YT comments, but a drink I make for myself quite often is the following: 2 oz gin (I use Ford's) 1 oz lime juice .5 oz 2:1 simple syrup 1 dash orange bitters (I use Angostura) 1 dash absinthe (mine is 100 proof) shake and pour into a coup/martini glass (whichever is clean at the time) and garnish with an expressed orange peel. I call it the Improved Gimlet. It's very sharp and flavorful with the classic botanical and sour lime combination but the orange brings some perceived sweetness which is cut down with a further evolution from the absinthe.

Ok so let me ask everyone here for ideas. My favorite warm weather cocktail is what I started calling the Sunset Negroni. 2 parts overproof rye 1 part Aperol 1 part Lillet Blanc or Cocchi Americano depending on your preference Regal stir with a lemon peel - serve up But...if we wanted to play with it further and introduce some Amaro. I think sticking with the 2:1:1 ratio but maybe Amaro Nonino. It already works so well with whiskey in the Paper Plane. So new specs thinking 2 parts overproof rye .75 parts Aperol .25 parts Amaro Nonino 1 part Lillet Blanc or Cocchi Americano Regal stir with lemon peel - serve up Thoughts?

Ginger pear marTEAni Make ginger pear syrup by brewing 8 fl oz Tazo brand Green Ginger Tea. Combine 8 oz tea with 16 fl oz brown sugar. Heat to boil while stirring frequently. Once boiling, remove from heat as soon as all sugar is incorporated into syrup. Jar and chill. Make ginger pear vodka by cold brewing for 6 hours 1 Tazo Green Ginger teabag for every 10 oz vodka. Gated pour into martini glass. Garnish with a wedge of crystallized ginger and a maraschino cherry on a toothpick.

Recipe is as follows: 2oz Malibu 2oz Midori 1oz Volare Banana Liqueur 1oz Lime Juice Give a good shake and pour over ice.. Top off with (roughly) 4oz Pineapple Juice (+Give a gentle stir) Float 1oz of blue curacao (on the back of a bar spoon for added prettiness as it trickles through) Would love to hear your thoughts on this? So my homemade recipe I made it when I first started drinking Og tourquoise margatini: .25 oz of midori .5 oz cointreau 2 dashes ango .25 oz sour mix (1 cup lemon juice 1/2 cup lime juice and a 1 to 1 mix of sugar and water) .5 oz simple syrup (1 to 1 sugar and water) 1.5 oz vodka (I used Russian standard have since used many others) .5 oz blue Curacao .5 oz like juice Shake over cracked and one whole 🧊 Strain top glass with 6.5 oz of mountain dew (or to taste I found 6.5 oz worked nicely to color and replace the cheap vodka flavor The improved is: .5 oz blue Curacao 2 oz vodka (belvedere is my go to) 2 dashes ango bitters .25 oz midori 1 oz cointreau 1 oz sour mix (same as above) .5 oz simple syrup (same as above) Top with MTN dew

I've got one based off Killer Klowns from Outer space Ingredients: 1 oz blue curacao 1 oz vodka 1 oz white grape juice 1/2 oz lime juice 1/2 oz simple syrup Club soda Cotton candy (for garnish) Red food coloring (optional) Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the blue curacao, vodka, white grape juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously for about 10-15 seconds. Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with ice. Add a splash of club soda to give it some fizz. If desired, add a drop or two of red food coloring to make the drink look even creepier. Garnish the drink with a small tuft of cotton candy on a skewer or straw.

Thanks for this, it's fun! My summer drink is a rum punch I just call the Madfish. Frozen whole strawberries instead of ice, rum, lime & lemon juice, plain coconut water, little bit of orange juice, splash of ginger ale. I stir it, but you might do something better. Let it sit for a little bit so the berries can soak up a little rum before serving. It's sweet, of course, it's mostly fruit, but maybe instead of ginger ale it could be ginger syrup. It's a nice summery drink and the coconut water keeps you from getting too dehydrated. When you get to the bottom of the glass, the strawberries are nice and boozy.

If there is a Drink i loved, thats mostly an old recipe just with a touch of personalisation, try making an "Old Cuban"! The variation i use would be 4.5cl rum ( 1 1/2oz) 2cl lime juice (2/3oz) 2 - 2 1/2cl simple syrup (recipe calls for 3cl but i reduce for a reason) 2 dashes of angostura a handful mint-leaves (6-12 depending on size) Mix carefully on ice but not too rough, you only want a slight taste of mint, not the strong, leaf-y taste of crushed, pasty greens 6cl of dry champagne as topping (2oz, sparkling wine also works but champagne can give it a great touch) and for my twist, adapted from a bar story about the drink 1 pinch of vanilla sugar atop the drink (preferably selfmade, 500gram sugar mixed with a open stick of vanilla, scraped clean, letting it all sit together for 2-4 weeks, shaking evry few days) and stir the drink briefly with the used vanilla, using it as a garnish on the side of the glass. It sounds like a twist on the mojito but the key is to have the minty taste subtle but still there, a note of vanilla in nose and background of the drink, and the angostura for some fine depth. Its godly! But expensive cause, well, champagne and real vanilla

My personal use of Wild Turkey 101 is to make my own version of Fireball. I take enough out of a 750 ml to make room for 5 or 6 cinnamon sticks. Let it infuse for at least a week. If you like it sweeter, add honey syrup to taste. Not only great for sipping, it seems to work as a cough syrup. I prefer without the syrup, others may prefer sweeter.

A friend of mine would always carry this concoction around at conventions. It's probably too sweet for you but I always liked it. Her version was vodka, amaretto, and Dr. Pepper, with a bunch of maraschino cherries marinating in it. I replaced the vodka with dark rum (because vodka doesn't taste like much). The other important thing is it has to be EXTREMELY cold, just shy of freezing.
