Whether it's Katie Hopkins, Donald Trump, or the EDL guy, it's clear that racism isn't really seen as a problem by people in charge, and definitely doesn't get treated with such vim unless it applies to a particular community. Reggie Yates just made mention of "a Jewish music manager from North London" (or something like that) and got backlash, accusations of anti-Semitism, and got dropped from a show he was doing, despite making an apology. He didn't say anything derogatory, there was no adjective attached, but to even make mention of them had serious implications. There were definitely conversations that happened behind closed doors to lock off Wiley everywhere, or there's already some private code of conduct that gets triggered with corporations when certain people are mentioned like that. It's a bit jarring that there's so many disclaimers and apprehension to speak without them, but makes sense in context of the patterns on social media. Risky times. Looking forward to hearing the One Po exclusive though

@@JackTheStrippa Well, a legit open conversation laying it all out on the table would establish a basis of understanding. That being said, everyone knows what comes across as racist, but clearly anti-Semitism is racism with an asterisk, which seems to have separate more sensitive rules, with militant enforcement. Boyyy, really and truly, I dunno if anything can be done because the platform can be biased and all anyone can do is appeal and beg them to move correct, but they don't have to and probably won't 😄

There is hierarchy of racism and Jews sit at the top of the food chain. There is NO path to redemption for anyone that is racist towards to Jews. Nothing to do Wiley being black at all, there’s simply a path to redemption for racism towards any group that isn’t Jewish. For example John Terry wouldn’t have a job in football if the FA found him guilty of Anti Semitism. I’m so angry at Wiley! All he had to say was that there is a ethnic minority in the music industry(who just happen to be Jewish) who profit from black culture but they haven’t fought for black people. That’s the conversation we need to have about the music industry.

I think punishment and outrage go hand in hand. An example is how the BBC covered the attempted murder of the NHS staff that was fuelled by racism, after 18,000 complaints they still decided to uphold the decision to say the N word. Whereas the coverage of Wiley comments on the BBC was completely different. They made decision not to show the anti-semitic tweets as they felt it would be triggering but a white report could say the N word. The way Wiley is treated is aligned with how the black community are treated in the judicial system, education, healthcare, policies and the workplace. I don't agree with generalising a community but he had some truths in what he said. We also have to understand Judaism (Jewish people) it is a religion that has white, black, middle East. So there are black people who also happen to be Jewish.
@JackTheStrippa
@JackTheStrippa 4 жыл бұрын
Apparently you can onky be truly jewish through your mother. So black jews is a rare one not a general like your comment assumes. You can convert but by no means is it just a common thing. Also depend on what you mean by Jew.
@pattermepretty
@pattermepretty 4 жыл бұрын
@@JackTheStrippa could you please expand on your comment as there Ethiopian Jews, Igbo Jews, Ghanaian Jews who have converted as you said and also are descendants. My comment didn't imply that there is high number of people who are black and are Jewish. I just said there are and when talk about the religion we need to be careful to paint one picture of what a Jewish person may look like. Also I don't fully understand your last sentence when you said what I meant by Jew. Is one person's claim of Judaism more legitimite than another? My statement was to highlight though there is a majority that of Jewish people that of European decent let us not forget that there are descendents that are not European who are Jewish and are descendants who have been practicing Judaism for centuries.
@JackTheStrippa
@JackTheStrippa 4 жыл бұрын
@@pattermepretty This attacks on Jew is not seen as a religious one as it it being banded as racist. Its being labeled as hating white Jews. So by you talking about small percentage of converts younstart taking away. Theres a questioned legitimacy when it comes to who is really jewish and who isnt. Whether a convert is seen as legitimate is questioned by the white jewish community and these are the one that have taken offense the most even though in their communities they arent accepting of the Jewish people you mentioned. So before we can even go into it we have to establish is jew a religiong or a race? In your opinion.

@Destroyer Listen i KNOW this.. and this will forever be pushed but what is the honest narrative of the world? And who is offended here black hebrew jews? They would feel disrespected on a religious level?
@pattermepretty
@pattermepretty 4 жыл бұрын
@@JackTheStrippa That is why I was said it is important to highlight who you are talking about within the Jewish community. The whole conversation with Wiley and so forth is around Ashkenzai Jews. Also if we are talking about Judaism which is religion in my opinion, just because there is not a majority of a race or ethnicity there should not be an assumption that they are converts. If you read the bible and they describe Jesus who I assume we can agree was Jewish by birth they described him to have wooly hair, from that description we can deduce he was not white combine with scientists confirming that they found the beginning of humankind in East Africa we would can make an educated guess that Judaism like most religions started from that region and spread so I don't think we can say or what I interpreted from your comment that anyone that isn't Ashkenzai Jew would have to be convert or would imply less legitimate. It is a religion which I believe if you have affinity to you should be able to practice no one should have more legitimacy over a religion than another because what we can see is the origins of where most religions started is not always where the majority of people who practice it are from. Now do I believe that Ashkenzai Jews should be painted with the same brush? No, not at all. The acts of a few does not reflect the acts of many. What we know is there are handful of people who are taking advantage of people in the music industry, that does not speak to their religion that speaks to them as people. How many people who identify as Muslim or Christian have taken advantage of and ripped people off. I think the discussion needs to move to how do creatives create ownership? How do you ensure that you are not being bamboozled as this business people only want to get as much as they want from you without giving you what you are worth. In a capitilist society we need to understand that people within these industries want to get as much as they can and give a little as possible but they cannot continue that model unless they have willing people, so the model needs to change.

I think the decision to ban Wiley from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram was the right call. He should not be able to continue to spread this hate speech. The move to remove his KZbin channel and his music from HMV are the things which I think was excessive. His previous music does not contain anti-Semitic views (as far as I know) and cannot be weaponised to spread anti-Semitic messaging. Then, when people attack him, question his logic or ask him to articulate better- they lose their composure and say dumb shit which they don't even mean

Wiley is an easy target.. And it's not because he has no supporters, its because we are his supporters. He has us. We don't have that much power.. Not until we fight and march in the streets to be heard. All THEY had to do was TWEET to get police at his door, to get him banned and targeted and taken off every platform. JUST TWEET and then refuse not to tweet for 48 hours. They didn't have to march in the streets to be heard. They didn't have to beg on reposted photos of loved that had been murder victims to get police investigations started. They tagged the met twitter......... It's honestly sickening watching this man being oppressed in broad daylight and no one is really noticing or outraged. This isn't headlining yet its BIG.

🔵 I would argue that it wasn't so much his statements about the music industry that shook up the most... While Wiley's rant might stem from his frustration with his former manager... and you would understand that because you know him in person and the industry he operates in - Looking from the outside I would argue rather than that it was more his series of tweets actually questioning the validity of the Jewish people and questioning their right to live in Israel... which is something the Jewish people would historically be very wary about. Repeating nonsensical antisemitic tropes is one thing and to be condemned BUT Wiley DID go one step further and that is probably the point at which most influential Jewish people will understandably be forced to take a stand. Questioning their right to exist or live in Israel will, whether you feel it is right or wrong, worded in that way, understandably remind a member of the Jewish community that their right to exist in (back then it was) Europe has once before been questioned which led to an extreme form of genocide during the Second World war. Let's not forget. Members of the Jewish community ALSO and especially BECAUSE of their long history of being subjected to antisemitism have ACTIVISTS that will pursue their rights. There is no need for a conspiracy to take Wiley down from Facebook and KZbin. It will simply take an organized group of Lawyers and/or activists to pursue the matter to have the same result. Counter to your point I would argue that the Jewish community is the only community which would effectively pursue the matter. There is rarely an equivalent for White, Asian, Black or Muslim hate because those communities are too scattered and from different backgrounds, with different issues to pursue a matter with the same urgency. There is no White, Asian, Black or Muslim group with a majority backing to take a stand in those situations whereas for the Jewish community on this issue there would be numerous transparent organisations taking on the matter. Something that came to my mind while listening to your conversation, a slightly different perspective... Thank you for the great talk guys!

@@melaninmonroe9996 but I wonder what about the truth their scared of?? The part where their whole being is a lie?? Or that Israel doesn't belong to them which is correct...i knw where wiley is coming from. But I wonder what they're saying about this?? They shutting down the man and not saying why exactly. Its weird and proves his point. They are a wicked bunch, from a religion worships money and celebrates sterile communities. Then surly something not quite right....
