Never saw a 371 with a two ring piston. LOOK at the side of the cylinder. Is it a Mahle ? And stock wrist pin clips usually don't have those long tabs.

Tinman, I'm really interested in saws but it's just a hobby for me, and I am SUPER on a budget because I already have too many hobbies. Videos like this are life-saving for folks like me who enjoy turning junk into gold. Cheers dude!

Someone has been in that saw mate. The 371 had a single ring piston and an HD6 carb. the cylinder on that saw is not oem for sure. 👍🏻

Original 371 piston was single ring so it looks like this one has been changed. It's possible the original piston may have broke a ring. Make sure single ring piston goes back in as it will have less drag.

362xp was built on that chassis. Small mount and large mount. I have an early 1998 small mount 362xp. 62.5cc I believe. Its a quick revving fast cutter for its cc's. Great Channel tinman take care buddy.

I didn’t see any identification on the base of that cylinder and with the look of the piston it’s looking like a regular Hyway topend kit… pretty crazy that those support blocks in your transfers are cracked away from the outer edges like that??? Super hot run maybe? The oem 50 has a much more consistent and straighter set of transfers in it compared to the aftermarket 52 cylinder’s… dyno joe did the titanikel 52 and it just got to the stock 50 power zone… so a ported 50 might beat most aftermarket big bores… I looked around and the little darker Farmertec 52mm cylinder and the Hyway 52 popup piston is a really good fit and you can work those transfers… it’s my go to for work… 👍😁

Agreed, very odd damage. Can't say I've seen anything like it either. Long as the operator doesn't let it get too built up, a good layer of oil dust and chips does seem to have preserving properties! Lol

Cool saw, double ring just depends on if it was pre or post epa 371 but looks like someone may have thrown an epa piston in a non epa cylinder there, who knows.

I'm hoping I can redo my new to me jred 625ii and really can't wait to dig in to it..I'm definitely going to have to pick up a crank splitter and some other tools. But for only having $250 in the saw I was told its got a 52mm jug on it but I took a rough measure and it came up looking like a stock 48mm but If I tear into it it'll go 52mm pop-up and maybe a lil pipe too 😉

Hi tinman a week or so back i asked if a OEM carb would be better on my new holzfforma 372xp pro you said as i thought yes would you please tell me the carb model no for the correct OEM part so i can order one I'm in the UK and getting so much conflicting info here I'll just ask you as you ironhorse and all the saw folks around you are brilliant for the shows you do and the knowledge you pass down. Thanks for what you do

You have mentioned some of the differences between the 371&372, you should do a video comparing the details if the 200 series vs 300 series, maybe throw in some of the 500 series as well.

So, TinMan - if you do not have an option for a new cylinder, what will you have to do with that "trash" cylinder and "trash" piston in order to still keep your family fed and warm? Just ridiculously curious. I don't know if that would be an episode but just thinking aloud for the island folks who do not have parts store and so far away in the middle of the pacific ocean.

The last aftermarket 50mm kit I bought had the same lines in the transfer division. Also Is it possible that that piston was not made for that cylinder? And that's why it's catching rather then the single ring. Just a thought. Should gave timed that saw first.

INfo Maybe you know maybe not The seam is from a two part build. Some complicated forms can not be done in one pour cast. Then the design has to been made up to a 2 or 3 part cast. After the cast machined and then they are put togheter. Have fun building the 371 =)

Awww what a good lookin dog ms daisy may! I’m curious did that cylinder have any oem markings? Perhaps the top end and piston had been changed out at some point, looking forward on this build. I’m also really curious to see a 50mm vs 52mm 372 shoot out. Thanks again tinman, hope you and the family have a good weekend

Question of the day….. if the piston is wore and thinner due to carb debris…..would that allow the ring to catch?

You seem to gravitate towards the Caber rings. There is a site out of Virginia that sells popup pistons. They do not recommend the caber rings, and if memory serves they don't even sell them. They sell "grey ductile iron" my objective is to fix this saw and it be reliable, not necessarily a souped up saw. So my question is, why caber rings over any other manufacture or grey ductile iron, whatever that is. Thanks Ken
@tinmanssaws
@tinmanssaws Жыл бұрын
Iron rings are very soft but sometimes are necessary depending on what your cylinder is made of. Camera rings are very hard and although they take longer to seat they will usually last way longer then an iron ring. That's why I use then mainly.
@krsatcom
@krsatcom Жыл бұрын
@Tinman's saws Thanks. I'm not sure how long it takes to seat the Caber rings. Got a Hyway cylinder and piston kit from Ryan for an MS 290. It seems like I'm constantly adjusting the carb. Prob been 3 tanks now.

Tinman, here’s a question of the day for you: what do you need to do to fit and modify for putting a 372 Xtork carb onto a non Xtork cylinder?
@DaveyBlue32
@DaveyBlue32 Жыл бұрын
The Xtorq is a little offset on it’s two mounting holes and it’s going to bolt on it’ll just sit a little sideways in the saw… it’s a little bit harder to get to the high and low jet to tune it… but you can do that with the plastic off…
