I have a DPhil and was earning sh*t in pharmacy, but cleaned houses on the side and was able to build a cleaning business here in central London and bought and sold houses and flats and make decent dosh. The reality I made more money cleaning and repairing houses than in a professional job, those dragging themselves through this think twice. Some jobs that others don't want to do pay well and inform the tax man.

Really interesting to hear what you have been doing and how you think about it, much better articulated than I could. I'm certainly a bit older, but had the same conversations with many people in the day job (I'm still in finance, but enjoy my little niche). The one big criticism I always got was that I bought a wreck in Woolwich, and did almost everything myself, when most people I worked with lived in west London etc. renting. Now onto the second place, slowly but doing most of it myself and the confusion still remains, how do I know how to do it, why don't I just get someone in etc. Coming from a farm, it is just that have a go and keep trying until it's right attitude, and a switch off from the day job. Look forward to seeing the end result!

Well thats amazing then mate. You should feel very proud as its not easy to start and get past that resistance. Farm to finance to renovating is awesome! Keep going📈 Thanks for watching

Great content. Brickie myself went to work in Germany in the early 90's on a rebound earning £1k a week, living in a 5* hotel, spending like I was a millionaire when I came across a labourer who was earning £750 per week, lived in a wooden hut, living on pot noodles, only drank 1 pint of beer on a saturday night. He saved as much money as he could. Came home after a 12 month he purchased an house out right refurbed sold, done that numerous times, he then went onto develop multiple sites he's now a multi millionaire. Me! I've only just finished refurbing my first £800k property. Wish I had his discipline 30 years ago😢.

8:25 My own mother is like that and raised me like that. She would get me to save up my pocket money for a toy I wanted and put it in the bank to earn interest. Sounds like good advise, except when I'd have enough money she wouldn't let me take the money out. I never saved for anything after that so have loads of debt. I'm now 45. Yes I own my own house but it's an old sh!t hole. I work for myself when mental health isn't kicking my arse. I've never been able to work out how you can save to improve your situation when you don't have any money left after outgoings to save. It's hard to work out which failings are my own and which one's aren't.

Giving up those ‘little things’ here and there for me were game changing tbh. As soon as I genuinely realised my biggest next goal is to get a property that’s my own, I cut all the takeaways, unnecessary tech and clothing purchases and I’m almost half way to my deposit after not even a full year

New subscribers here, myself and my husband stumbled across your London ren and had to sub. We are a lot older than you, but you are very motivational and inspirational (even for us oldies too!). We hope in the next 3-4 years to get a house to renovate and make it "our living", more of our passion. Your parents must be so very proud of you!

Ooo I’m loving your vids. I’ve lived through similar stuff. I’ve achieved my own definition of success and became financially independent at 50yo. I was a single parent with a full time job that also developed property. So I designed my own path and was also on the receiving end of resistance. Yeah it’s important to understand compound interest. If you fancy a sail on the med let me know.

Love the videos, resonates a lot as I left London to focus on business so a lot of parallels. You do have to be careful of what's in your employment contract when starting a side business. I work in tech and have seen successful lawsuits against employees that start a side business when their contract gives employer all intellectual property.

It was a triple mortgage with my brother his girlfriend and me. 1/3 of a deposit each and split the monthly paymenets/3 aswell. Deed of trust meant that its all legal and if say I wanted to sell. My brother and his girlfriend would have to pay me my 1/3. The most I have heard of is 5 friends on one mortgage

Which order did you applications? (Assuming you applied for cert of lawfulness)… when you applied for planning did you include the proposed rear dormer on the planing drawings?

You are amazing, smart and so full of energy. I must say at 60 years of age and restoring an old house , have had many ney-sayers until I am achieving my goals. Visualizing the end result sets you in motion, Amazing! I love my biceps! Never built a structure in my life, now building my yoga studio, potting shed from found items. You just have to have the tools and stay organised and plan and resource. You tube has been amazing. Oh another thing, I am a Registered Nurse, worked and saved with my Husband and son for years and retired. Now being ghosted by the friends who are jealous.... What? Now looking at 'side hustles'. Move on and create and enjoy, Love the dream cars myself :)

Thanks for this Chris. About to get a mortage on a Victorian end terrace with some gem potential; simple steps could improve it immensely. Two architects (well, one of them an ex-architect now landscaper) and a newborn. Not a load of savings but a 40% deposit on a £200k house. The current market seems scary but we're going to go for it. Seems mad with a little on to care for! If all goes according to plan, we'll be able to refinance it. Are there any mortage conditions we should be aware of?

Whoa! A little too much ranting for me. I came to watch the tiny house progress. I'm not a bully in finance, so this whole clip wasn't what I was looking for. I've got some real estate because I worked and saved. No, I didn't build them; just bought them. Paid off both mortgages. Houses were more affordable then, but few single people thought to do what I did.
