We are having fun today prepping our hanging baskets for spring color! Within a few hours, we are able to fill & assemble around 500 hanging baskets and get them ready for plants. This has always been a dreaded task at the nursery, but the new potting machine sure makes the job more fun and so much faster!

This reminded me of of the old "I Love Lucy" sitcom when Lucy and Ethel were at the candy factory and working to wrap the candy as it came out of the machine... disaster. You guys did a excellent job. I worked in a speaker factory and took them off the belt that glued them together and stacked them to be boxed. So I can relate. God's speed.

You weren’t kidding Jenny when you said late in the Fall that you were so looking forward to the Winter “break.” It was a short one though, because obviously you are hard at it again. What a neat operation! You all must just be giddy about it. I remember my Dad filling trays at our greenhouse back in the 1970s. With a shovel. After having hand mixed his all of his potting medium and steaming it in a modified manure spreader with a coal fired boiler. I would come home from school and smell that Dad was "cooking dirt" back in the work room. It was such a warm earthy smell though. Perfect for a cold, winter afternoon. Filling containers can be such back breaking work, even on a home gardening level. I just loved watching your assembly line.

Not to mention the care involved before we can purchase them. Last year, I saw sad plants at a big box store then the next stop was at a nursery where a worker groomed each plant and made sure they were properly hydrated. I complimented her after seeing the neglect from the first store. It hurts my heart seeing wilted, half dead plants at a retailer. I can neglect plants on my own. 😆

Hiya folks, you’ve probably already mentioned this (& I’ve missed it), but how much soil does the hopper hold? And is there a mixing arm in the hopper? Or do you have to load the potting mix & fertiliser etc pre-mixed? Bron New South Wales, Australia

The hopper holds 4 yards of soil and while it could mix In fertilizer we do not add it in. Each of these annuals have different requirements so we use liquid fertilizer in the production 😊

No, we use liquid fertilizer during the growing process because different plants have different needs.
