Im 19 now and the last year's vacations I have approached a girl during a weeklong organised group trip to another country. I took a board game with me, but really didn't have anyone to play with. So one time when I saw the one girl from our group that looked of my age in the hotel's lobby and asked her if she would like to play. Throughout all my childhood, elementary and middle school years i never really interacting with girls that much. One of the things that made this to be the case was because i never really thought about how to speak to girls, like what do i even tell them you know? Then i slowly started to just feel awkward near them and had some disappointing stories on that because i was sooooo shy, and cared too much about what people thought about me. When i arrived at high school everything started to change. First i need to clarify that in my country we have around 40-60 people in each class(at high school), so we have desks that fit 2 people. In my first high school year i was sitting behind two girls, in front of two girls and had another two girls beside my desk (yeah, that never happened to me, i was always far away from then) plus my desk was also beside a wall so i had 6 girls surrounding me.I think my first high school year was like *how to talk with girls training arc* because i was trying to have conversations with any girls in my class. Luckily or not, alot of them started to approach me because i was the best student so after the boring class stuff i always started a topic that had nothing to do with school and it worked perfectly but then i was suddenly the crush of alot of girls there( I'm not joking, i had almost half of the girls in my class liking me, even the ones that were actually my girl-friends). This was soo awkward because i didn't know what to do. I even asked my best girl-friend (that sounds so wrong) why do girls like me and her description kind of terrified me because i never thought i had charm or even look attractive or was that funny. Talking to girls helped me realize so many traits about myself and even got rid of my shyness. I'm 100% sure that i could've even gotten a gf that year(coping?) but i just wanted to talk to girls, focus on school and play football. Well, when i arrived at the end of my 2nd year of high school i could talk with both boys and girls without any problems and fortunately my best girl-friend is still my friend to this day which is nice . Maybe try some new hobbies or assist to some class of anything even if you don't need it? I also struggle a lot making friends (although this is my fault because I have become so used to being by myself that I literally NEVER even think about saying hi to other people or inviting them to do anything, pretty much preventing me from turning a nice interaction into a friendship). However, I don't have this issue with the people that I've met online through videogames mainly. If you don't play videogames, maybe try to get into it, or if you already do, try to play more social games. Getting more hobbies also expands the range of people that would have a nice conversation with you, allowing you to eventually get friends. Or, if you already have hobbies, try to infiltrate places with more people like you. I am a self thought guitarist but I've thinking of joining guitar classes or music classes in general not to learn (I already know it) but to meet new people like me. Also, being the most experienced in the topic always acts as a boost for confidence and will make you more "relevant" for people because they will probably ask you for help everytime they need anything. And if you help them, they will probably see you as someone cool and they may want to spend more time with you. About that, helping people is a very powerful tool to get friends. Doesn't matter if you help them in a videogame or with anything in real life, people remember and they will be kind to you and they will probably be waiting for a chance to help you when you need it (creating an opportunity of future interactions). I have been able to confirm this at the gym, always vigilant to see if someone needs help and guess what, all the people that I've helped always recognizes me and always say hi to me. I am sure that if I wasn't like I am, I could probably get a lot of numbers and do a lot of things with people, but I haven't even asked their names.

Fact is I had a female friend until graduation so we kind of just stopped talking after that. Other than that, I don't really talk to women unless it's family, business, and work purposes. I can't really have fun with a woman because in general I look scary and intimidating and then on top of that I am always quiet so that makes me being scary even worse. And I don't think women like to be around some guy who looks intimidating and looks like a killer. I don't trust me I am such a nice person lol.

That's pretty relateable honestly. I am socially awkward, sure, but i usually don't have issues making friends with other guys. For some reason, i absolutely can't seem to interact with girls though. The worst part about this, is that everyone around me just assumes i'm gay because of that, which is far from truth. Sigh... i'm going to be a single for the rest of my life, aren't i?

I can understand u. I havent talked to girls before 8th grade cause I was always in guys community. I started chatting with girls when I went to a camp and met there two girls with the same name and at that time I was feeling like: "Wow, I have never thought that talking with girls is being cool", we had much in common as well. When my friend broked up with his girfriend she suddenly started talking to me. And it was fun, we even played CS:GO together and I PLAYED WORLD OF TANKS WITH HER DAD. But I was mad because she said that my friend is not a good person, so, thats why I kept my distance from her so that gossip wouldn't spread about me. But I had a person that is an opposite to me. I really havent seen him with boys. He always spent time in school with girls. I was thinking: "Can this guy be a g*y?" (But this is prohibited in Russia). So, he was more feminine. I dont think that its good to grow up in boys group but this is bad when you are not able to talk to women

Lowkey I feel like the only girl friend that I have that i’m close with saved me. She was also the one who matchmaked me with my gf. There was times where I couldn’t trust the boys since the word would spread when I was mentally ill. I’m thankful on that friend of mine

relatable asf bro i grew up in only boys school so yh i have got it pretty rough. When i was in 3rd or 4th I was like damn what are these new species called girls. Jokes aside I am really scared of girls like i havent talk to a girl of my age for like 3 yrs now (i am 16 yrs old). I only talked to them in schools and only for their notebook 🙂 cuz my work was incomplete 🙂such a pure soul I am.

You'll regret it as you age. Ask friends for help or just see how others do it. Then use school projects to get to know some. Doesn't matter if they don't interest you. They've all got friends, cousins, aunts, mothers, friends of friends, friends of cousins, sisters of friends and so on. Otherwise you'll have to try at college and I got lucky because of college culture here. Most will be very studies/study groups focused. Specially if you go for a career which does not require you to learn advanced social skills. Which, obviously needs practice.

Hey, having no girl friends is a blessing in disguise in some parts. Like for me, a lot of my friends treat girls special because they, like you, didn't have any girl friends growing up. But I grew up with a LOT of girls as friends (majority of my friendgroup till 8th grade, family friends were girls, my only first cousin is a girl, I have a sister, etc.) so I knew how to talk to girls but I just talked to them like my homies. So while my friends default state for girls was trying to garner romantic attraction (to varying levels of success) but my default was to talk to girls as friend which put me in the friendzone 100% of the time.
