I used to hear the HAWAII CALLS radio show on WJR AM radio here in Detroit back in the late 50s and early 60s. Thanks for sharing this.

My mom and dad used to play the Hawaii Calls radio show when I was little. It was their way to keep in touch with the aloha spirit and the memories, friends, and family they left back in the islands. They are both gone now but when I hear this, it brings me back to those days and the good feelings I would get when waking from a deep nap in the late afternoon and hearing that program. Much aloha to all.

When I Hear Aunty Nina singing Hawaii Calls Aloha...it gives me the chills! She is amazing, with perfect pitch and a gorgeous voice.

I remember listening to Nina on Hawaii Calls from the late 1950s and have every album I can find of her singing. An outstanding mezzo soprano and a great contributor to true Hawaiian music as well as hapa-haole. Thanks for posting this!

Orygunlady, My Dad was at Barber's Point, too. For the first month we were in Hawaii, in 1950, we lived in an apartment a short walk from the Royal Hawaiian, and my Mom took me to see the broadcast live, under the Banyan tree.

I remember listening and then one Christmas we (our church choir) were invited to sing on Hawaii Call for Christmas..it's a memory I'll never forget even at my age now
