This ahupua‘a extends inland from Āliapaʻakai crater to the crest of the Ko‘olau Range and holds many of O‘ahu’s most culturally important sites. Night marchers, a haunted high school, and an unsettling house of bones... Today, Hawaii’s Most Haunted visits Moanalua.

In this series, Lopaka brings you some of Hawaii's Most Haunted places.
Master storyteller, Lopaka Kapanui, brings to life the feared Nightmarchers, the goddess Pele, Menehune, e‘epa, mo‘o and more. But… Hawaiian deities and spirits aren’t the only things residing in this island paradise. Here is also where the Japanese dog demons, the inugami, are sent to ruin the lives of unsuspecting families. Here is where the Filipino vampire-like creature, the aswang, roams in search of her next victim. And here is where the Portuguese witch, the feiteceira, spins her spells and curses at her whim. Rich in culture and traditions, these islands are overflowing with stories of ghosts and hauntings, creatures and curses. Lopaka is the keeper of these stories.
Beyond the cool, blue waters and balmy trade winds of our idealistic paradise is the thin veil which separates our world from the place where shadows talk back. Spirits, Ghosts, Legends, Facts... Experience the Hawaii most don't see every day.

I grew up in the Moanalua Gardens area. My dad still still lives in the home that he and my mom raised us kids in. He would tell us about the dog named Poki or Boki that would take the form of a white mist. It would pass from mauka down the valley in our area in the form of a mist. Never saw the mist but every so often all the dogs in the area would howl. The sound reminded me of a wave. Starting way up and making its way across the neighborhood. A little eerie. My dad hasn't heard anything in years.

I Grew up in Moanalua Valley. My oldest brother is adamant that as a child he heard the drums of the Night Marchers in his head. Our house also had some strange things happen to it.

I grew up in Kalihi-Palama district. Historically that area was largely agricultural, for example taro patches. Hence, few people except farmers and no ghosts and no hauntings from ancient Hawaiian times. Thankfully, no night marchers.

i lived in moanalua valley for a few years, the house i lived in gave me nightmares a few times. one instance i awoke and saw a shadow in my bedroom wall, another i felt threatened by a presence of someone or something climbing through my bedroom window in the middle of the night. other than those few times, i was fine. my brother too who used to sleep in that room had nightmares as well. moanalua valley trail still creeps me out to this day. hiked it once in the middle of the day and i couldn't shake the feeling of being watched and the whole time it was dead silent. my brother's wife hiked the same trail and said she felt a cold hand grab her wrist but nobody was there.

@@hmnanda I agree; that trail is creepy even in the middle of the day.

@@hmnanda Few people know that the Hawaiian Islands were drenched in blood over centuries of internecine tribal warfare waged by ambitious, aggressive, sometimes amoral high-ranking Hawaiian ali'i chiefs (kings).

Here is a link for a teleprompter for you, unko! Super cheap and easy to use so you can add that extra oomph to your narrative while facing the camera. I love what you do! Chee!🤙🏾
