Thanks for your honesty and I look forward to your overall review! Going to Hawaii on vacation in the fall. I’m sure our experience will be so different than if we were living there. But I love all your suggestions!

Haole in the Hawaiian dictionary means, 'foreigner' but since the early 1900's it became the derogatory term for any white person from the mainland mainly because there is some throw back from the overthrow of the late monarchy. Most locals still resent the overthrow by the united states so that is why most locals don't like mainlanders. Well that and the way foreign investors buy up all the land and hike up the prices. Oh and if your husband ever decides to come back here for another contract tell him to remember these words to the next nurse to acts all high maka maka (snobby to him) Kuli kuli no waha (cool-lee cool-lee no va-ha) it means shut your mouth in hawaiian. My aunt told that advice to a traveling nurse in the early 90's (she was a caretaker nurse) it worked like a charm. Also for advice for budgeting from a local here don't listen to half the people telling you stuff about budgeting on the internet they are full of crap. there are some great spots for supper cheap stuff in the islands. all you got to do is ask.

I live on the big island my whole life and I say yes this is very true especially in the 70s and 80s. It’s not as bad now since a lot of Hawaiians got pushed out and we basically survive off tourism but I will say Hawaiians wanted to keep people out because of what’s happening now they can’t afford to live here.. they already got taken over once which they are sensitive about and now barely can afford a home. It’s sad both ways unfortunately

I agree it for sure can be on both sides. It's just sad when people are rude or mean just because they were taught that way.

This is an awesome video! We did our 1st visit to Hawaii this past Jan/Feb via cruise and I agree with you 100% on all counts. Hawaii is understandably too expensive. While it is beautiful country it is not someplace I would choose to vacation due to the costs of EVERYTHING! The things we chose to do (both retired in our early 70's) we enjoyed 100%. We toured Kona Brewery, super interesting. We did a UTV tour at Kualoa Ranch, which was amazing. Dislike all the vibes in Honolulu, but then we are NOT fans of cities. Look forward to your video on John's job and final costs. You kids are growing up FAST!

Thank you! I bet that ATV tour was super fun! There were still fun things to do - mostly on the Kona side. I'm glad we did it but I've had my fill now. 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. We appreciate you!

We didn’t experience this while vacationing on Oahu, Maui and Kauai. Bummer that John in particular had a bad experience. Working 3rd shift and having to deal with unfriendly coworkers (which you alluded to) is really hard. 😕

Thanks for the video. I have been watching you since Alaska. Love your videos. Where did you get the little take on Cinder's vest that says, At Least I look good on the internet? I need one for Snickers.

My sister and her family went to Hawaii on vacation and she said that she noticed a lot of hate…and that a lot of it seemed to go over the heads of many tourists. My sister said even at a hotel luau, locals who worked it stood in the corner shit talking the guests…weirdly in her presence like they thought she was fine.

I hear nurses on the mainland doing the same behind their patients’ backs. It’s not just Hawaii. 🫤

“keyboard warriors” is an interesting one. Come back down one time so we can actually “face you” then. Just saying, you can’t post this talking big back when you can’t even say something to our face in the moment.
