Hawaiian Airlines HA43 | TRIP REPORT| San Jose to Honolulu Airbus A321NEO

Finally, took my first flight since the pandemic started. Actually this flight was the first leg of a SJC to SYD flight with a stopover in HNL. This was also my first flight on Hawaiian since 2007. The A321NEO is a nice plane but I do miss the 767s!

I agree, not have the PTV is a bit annoying. Certainly the inflight entertainment can be accessed via your own device, I much prefer the PTVs.

I don’t find taxi boring.As far as the lavoratory is concerned, people know what to expect

Here’s the deal, you don’t see the statistics that KZbin gives to content creators. For the majority of my videos, people on average only watch 2 mins or less of my videos which are in general about 15 mins long. The taxi can be quite lengthy depending on the airport which could easily push my videos to be 45 mins which is way too long and hardly anyone would even watch it. I myself wouldn’t. So that’s why I speed through the taxi to keep the video relatively short for the general audience. Also, I’ve flown a lot, it’s nice to give the viewers a good idea about the flight including the lavatory experience. Not all lavatories are the same. Many travel bloggers do a quick review of the lavatory in their videos.

Thank you for sharing your trip. Yes, I agree about having the larger wide-body aircraft on the long-haul flights. The 777s and 767s are very nice and have more space to fly in. Waiting for the upgrades into Business Class are so nice but now a days the airlines are more Premium Economy better with a little more space as well.

And when you see the 757s flying those Hawaii flights, I can live with that size of an aircraft on the long-haul flight and in First Class. Although, I have seen Business Class larger on the 757s and I think that is a nice treat also.

It has been a few years that I have flown into and out of San Jose. We always had the outside walkway ramp for passengers to walk up to the aircraft. We would always fly the A319s or 320s there.

It is always nice seeing Honolulu Intenational Airport up high on approach. Fly the recently 747-400s and 777s there is so nice.

And Hickam Air Force Base is right there next to Honolulu International as well. So nice being there as well.

Great video! You recommend a seat on the right side of the plane for the views.? How did you like the size of the 321 for a 5 hour flight? Since you bring your own device, do they offer wifi as in chat or email? I'm still trying to figure out my flights from Melbourne to IND via HNL Seems like it is the A330 to HNL and either the same going into LAX or the 321 going into ONT. Or I can take HA from SYD to HNL and then United on their 787 from HNL into Chicago which would be closer to my final destination anyway.

Sit on the right side if you're coming from the US mainland. However, if you're flying from SYD, then it would probably be on the left side for views assuming that you will land on the 8's which is the more typical approach. The A321 is okay for the 5 hour flight, no real complaint. The seats are comfortable. As for bringing your own device, they do not offer Wifi at all so no email or chat. That is my big complaint with HA is the lack of Wifi. On the A321's, everything is streamed on your own device and the movie, tv selection aren't that great. On the A330, it is slightly better. Compared to UA, the entertainment offering on UA is way better. If you connect at HNL, consider carefully your layover time. If it's less than an hour, it will be very stressful.

I'll be flying this flight from HNL to SJ in 2 months. Will there be wifi available in order to access entertainment for the flight?

The wifi is only to access Hawaiian's movies and such on their app so you need to download it first before your flight. The wifi won't allow you to surf the internet or access anything else.

Yeah I felt it wasn't a good idea for HA to take away the PTVs. Sure there was wifi to stream onto your own device but having the PTVs is much better.

Don’t like the sped up taxis and the trip to the bathroom!

It’s a trip report so that includes visit to the lavatory so other passengers know what to expect so the lav visits will continue. Also if I don’t speed up the taxi, then the video will become too long so it ends up being too boring so that will continue as well.
