It has been many moons since I went spearfishing but I still get my old Hawaiian sling. Use to spear palani, weke, manini, uhu and kala. The best was deep frying the manini. Mahalo for the video.

When I grew up on Oahu in the 1960s the reefs were full of fish like that everywhere. I remember spear fishermen coming in with stringers of 150 of them over their shoulders. No more da kine.

Yes sir. But it's much nicer there. I'm glad it's one of your main delicacies "the fried surgeon Fish". But for us here, we prefer to prepare and serve that fish in raw. We called it "Kinilaw" or sashimi in Japan.

Mahalo 🤙 And as for the heads, there is two reasons 1. If I was only clean a few I would leave the heads on, however, to clean for a whole party. It’s just easier and faster to chop the head and guts off. 2. Cigueteria can be linked to these herbivores … which can be store more in fatty places like head and belly. So to be safe I just cut it off… besides it’s not that much that you are wasting. Cause I save em for crabbing which you can tie the line thru the eye hole and it stays on the whole time

So these fish can't be taken for the aquarium trade (in which they're still alive) because of the possible impact on the environment but they can be speared (killed) and eaten with no issues. Hmm......This world is getting so backwards.
