My ex-wife's grandfather was a Hawaii mob boss who was acquainted with the governor at the time and he also had connections with certain entities and institutions that shall remain nameless. His modus operandi was "I do you a favor, then you WILL pay me back." Apparently, there were a lot of people who owed him hence his ability to pull strings. Whether it is drugs, guns or illegal fireworks, organized crime has its hands in it. Hawaii is a corrupt state all wrapped up in the "spirit of Aloha." I am born and raised on Oahu and left 18 years ago. I am ashamed to see and hear what the state of Hawaii has become. This tragic event has made international news and it is a very bad look for this state. This issue with fireworks has been going on for years with excuses of traditions and culture to make meaningful laws impossible to pass. Reports of violence toward people against fireworks has been documented. The incompetence of law makers and the people of Hawaii show that tradition and culture is more important than human life. To make matters worse the state of Hawaii does not have a major trauma center so these firework related injuries have to be sent out of state for treatment. I am so glad that I now live in a modern city that values life more than fireworks. You look outside and see a bunch of people who are renting the house across the street blowing up a vast amount of illegal fireworks. You’re peacefully celebrating in the confines of your house with close family. Then all of sudden, an illegal firework breaks through your window injuring your loved one. This loved one is in critical condition. Are you going to start a go fund me for support from tax payers who have already payed for everything to insure that things like this don’t occur. OR, are you going after the people who caused this incident??? We all have choices! It’s up to you to make the right one or learn from the other. Being at the party as a “bystander”, is being just as much of a participant to this incident as the one who lit the firework. Like I said, WE all have the right to make a choice. When consumer-grade novelty fireworks were banned in Oahu in 2011, the demand for fireworks did not disappear. Instead, the ban led to the growth of an illegal black market. This black market primarily sells dangerous professional-grade pyrotechnics, meaning that when people purchase fireworks illegally, they are often given the most hazardous options. The law enacted in 2011 made it impossible to obtain safe consumer fireworks while making dangerous professional-grade fireworks easily accessible. It's time for Hawaii's lawmakers to confront this issue. The decision made in 2011 was a significant mistake that contributed to the rapid expansion of the black market and increased risks to public safety. We should lift the ban on safe consumer fireworks.

It’s great that they are getting to the. Care they need but what about the countless people who can’t get to the mainland when needed who didn’t break the law? What message does this send to criminals? Go ahead and break the law, cause countless injuries and deaths, and you will get free transport to the mainland for care. I thought having a doctor as governor would help but I was very wrong.

They treat the individual according to the level of their injuries. I don't think they discriminate like what you are trying to say.

These are victims being transported. You're victim shaming and assuming everyone injured are the criminals.

@@sasquatch8268 yeah ok garbage man, you know nothing about me. I know much more about this topic than some bleeding heart you tube viewer. I see MANY people who are left to suffer and deteriorate from their conditions because they can’t afford the treatment and transport to mainland facilities. My question is will this feee service now be available to any one who can’t afford or find the care they need here in Hawaii? Grow up dude
