Always overshadowed by the spitfire but was the real workhorse of WW11.

The Hurricane was perfect for the Battle of Britain and doesn't get the credit it deserves for shooting down the majority of German raiders in 1940. Having said that, Sydney Camm had started designing the Typhoon, the Hurri's replacement as early as 1937. When the fw190 appeared in '41 the Spitfire had already completely taken over the frontline air defence role for the UK. Hurricanes were useful for some years as fighter-bombers in North Africa and later on, in the Far East.

Spit needed American octane 100 to 150 just to compete with German bf109e series running 87 octanes. Your never told that, also the British lost the air war when they begged America for help! What you can’t win on your own? Nope! Hitler smashed British empire and today nothing but debts.

Nice colored video.....one of my favorite WW 2 fighter planes.....it did mention that it shot down more planes than any other Royal Airforce planes....and that I believe.....

The Hurrican was like the P-47 Thunderbolt. Both were the real workhorses that broke the Luftwaffes back but were overshadowed by the Spitfire and P-51 Mustang.

Real scrappy little battle wagon which did most of the fighting during the Battle of Britain, beyond the sporty flashiness of the Spitfire.

5656 in the video. Lack of a propeller spinner makes me think it was one of the Canadian built Hurricanes. I understand they used a different propeller. Is that correct?

very interesting to see original Second World War era colour footage. The formation at the beginning must be from an OCU.

The Hurricane shot down more planes than the Spitfire but also took more losses. I love the Hurricane but without the Spitfire the RAF would have had a much harder time beating the Germans.

The German bf109e was the best aircraft of early ww2 followed by the light weight Mitsubishi a6m5 zero. Late ww2 it was the German me262 nothin came close
@Dezzasheep3 жыл бұрын
Woah, some sweeping statements there. Certain aircraft excelled in certain conditions and applications, there was was no ultimate 'best' which you claim. You also have to factor in general pilot ability and experience.
@garyseeseverything86153 жыл бұрын
@@Dezzasheep I said the truth nothing more. The me109 was the most advanced fighter when it released that British rushed to develop the spitfire using carburetor and no cannons. Not even wing slats for turning not propellor adjusters. Spit was cheaply built and mark 1 through 4 no matches for either the me109 and the Japanese zero. Battle of Britain had no mark 5.

A comment like that is a bit strange ...The 109 was good in certain conditions but had serious flaws like all other WW2 aircraft in others The Zero was a death trap to it's pilots with a weak protection of them . Didn't take much to cripple or destroy them ..No 'best'.. The 262 was fast quite obviously but had no real impact by the time it came into service..It too had all sorts of initial problems that limited it's effectiveness ..

Not! It was a thirsty beast that could not properly escort and stay with the bombers. Not a P-51D Mustang, that's for sure!
