Wonderful! I love hawthorne, with her toning, harmonizing and protective verve. Her berries are also nice to string and dry, to hang or garland as "decorative" Medicine, or wear as a necklace that conveniently hangs over the heart. I LoVe the idea of a Medicine bag with a thorn to latch it ~ beautiful idea!

Loved this video! I have just begun taking Hawthorn tincture every morning and I foresee it being something I will do for a long period of time. I really, really like the idea of rubbing some of the tincture on my heart at the start of the day. What a beautiful ritual. I've never seen a Hawthorn tree in real life. It was very cool to see close up shots of it within this video.

Hawthorne is one my favorite herbal trees! LOVE LOVE LOVE! I think the way he explains it gives his class a visual aid to see how it works. As a Herbalist myself, I like to look at the plants and trees themselves to figure out what they might be useful for if I come across one I havent worked with much or am unfamiliar with. :)

thanks for video, have been living in downtown Phoenix since 2007, I miss places and people devoted to preserving knowledge of plants, i want to attend an herb school, I am a RN- I kick myself for missing Michael Moores school which was my dream. Can you recommend a herbal school on the line of Michael Moore's hands on/ethnobotany & science that was his amazing style? Maybe you are a successor? blessing!always paul

I have a tree that looks to be an hawthorn, but I'm not absolutely for sure. How would I find out if it is or isn't?
@mountainroseherbs6 жыл бұрын
Hey Karen! We would suggest reviewing several plant identification books to determine if hawthorn meets the characteristics you are observing. (You can even find many of these kinds of books at a local library that you have have access to.) Plants tend to be the most identifiable when they are in flower, and we are coming up on spring. Great timing! I hope that helps to point you in the right direction.

Can we grow Hawthorn in MI ? Thank you for this interesting video.
@herbcraft6 жыл бұрын
yes, but if you live within a mile of an eastern red cedar, they may be susceptible to hawthorn cedar rust, which may kill the tree.

Does Hawthorn have any side affects thoe?... I thought the berrys were originally poisonous,.... I currently have SVT, BUT- I think it due to either early undiagnosed, early heart failure Or possibly broken heart Syndrome,... :-/ I hate sayen that But I dont really know what I have I just know the doctors diagnosed me with SVT, Continue to tell me I dont have a Heart Problem.

Hi Lindsey... On the whole, Hawthorn is considered quite safe, but there are a few potential interactions. It may potentiate digosin or digoxin, and I've seen it interact with beta blockers sometimes; not always, not most of the time, but sometimes. The American Herbal Products Association's Botanical Safety Handbook says, in its entry on hawthorne: "In meta-analyses and systematic reviews of clinical trials, hawthorn flower and leaf extracts have been characterized as well tolerated in clinical trials, with few adverse events reported (Daniele et al. 2006; Pittler et al. 2003)... A meta-analysis of hawthorn leaf and flower extract monopreparations, including 13 randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled clinical trials, indicated that adverse events reported were infrequent, mild, and transient. Adverse events reported in persons taking hawthorn included nausea, dizziness, and cardiac and gastrointestinal complaints. The number and nature of adverse events in placebo groups were not identified (Pittler et al. 2003)." That's an excerpt (the monograph has more info), and of course it's always important, especially with a heart condition, to seek a proper assessment from someone with the qualifications and experience to hep you make responsible and informed decisions.

Is there any scientific basis for the doctrine of signatures? Seems poetic, but not necessarily valid.

probably not. but then, not everything needs to be scientific.
