All of our black powder test are made using a ratio of 77 parts KN03, 13 parts charcoal and 10 parts sulfur. It is milled for 24 hours and compressed to a density of 1.75g/cm3. The test rifle is my 45 caliber Southern Mountain Rifle made by Kiblers Long Rifle. We use a 50 grain charge of 3F size powder, a .020 pillow ticking patch and a swaged Hornady .440 round ball and all of the shots are primed with the same powder they are charged with.
