In car footage from the Hayabusa-powered Suzuki Cappuccino at a Donington-Park Easytrack trackday on 01/11/10 (that's the first of November for those who do their dates the wrong way around)

That car would be an absolute blast, and a rocket as well. With that engine and the 1400 lb curb weight stock, and I'm assuming they lightened it as much as they could, makes this thing insane with a Hayabusa engine in it. Even unmodified it's probably doubling power, and I'm assuming this one got a little massaging done to the engine. I wish I had this! I also wish I had about 90 other cars but a man can dream!

In this video the car had a spring-loaded shift rod in the upshift direction so that pulling the lever back pre-loaded it for a super-fast upshift when the flatshift switch was contacted. This put a ground on one of the Suzuki ecu pins to trigger the cut and thus the shift. The car now has a self developed paddle-shift system. There is a servo that 'pokes' the throttle open a few mm for the blip to allow clutchless down shifting. Now that the cut and blip time etc are set the system never misses

It does now have a paddle shift. If you watch the Brands Hatch races you'll see it working. According to the race report, I 'obliterated' the lap record that weekend. :-)

@dixonpeter It's very easy to drive, doesn't really have any vices. It goes where you point it, gets really good drive off the line and out of corners. I'm sure Craner would be flat but, given that the grass was very wet still, I didn't want to press on too hard and run off line and bend it, not after all the work it's had!

Like the one in the videos I posted last year (2012)....? The Snetterton 300 is a good one to see it working, I moved my camera soon after and you can't see the gearchanges in the later videos. It's electric though, I bought the solenoid and made the rest. :-)

Hello! Brilliant car! Have you considered any type of pneumatic system for the gearbox? Do you have a blog or build thread of the car? Really considering one as an option.
@Chipwizards
@Chipwizards 12 жыл бұрын
The car is almost down to the minimum weight allowed now, so it's not such an issue any more. The paddles allow me to keep both hands on the wheel under braking, which makes it easier to keep pointing forwards...

Well done sir! I favor the 89-95 swift body. I love this car. In the states (for me) it started with a Geo Metro:( My parents bought new in '93. Then I found out the actual shite this creation can do by its maker, Suzuki. Skidpad of .98 G etc.... and traveled 1,820 (2929.01k) miles to buy my first '91 swift. I would like to build a "FrankenSwift" myself. What transmission was used for this project?

The problem is roof height with a cage installed (assuming you want to keep the roof on). By the time you've got the cage itself, some bar padding, the required clearance gap to your helmet and the thickness of a helmet you're out of room. I am 5'9" and I look out just over the steering wheel. I couldn't actually see out over the original dash and when I first ran it with the stock steering wheel I was looking through it, not over it!

dude your a god at rev matching that thing. that car shifts in like .06 seconds how do you do it?
@Chipwizards
@Chipwizards 9 жыл бұрын
Just set your peddles up properly, so when breaking the ball of your foot below your big-toe is pressing the brake pedal and you use the little-toe side of your foot to blip the throttle. Setting the peddle heights is important and it only takes a few mm of adjustment for it not to be right. If you look at my later in-car videos I've made and fitted a paddle shift system and that just uses a central-locking motor mounted on the throttle assembly to blip the throttle on downshifts. Once set up, it works great and only cost me £7.50! :-)
@JetSquid
@JetSquid 8 жыл бұрын
The hayabusa has a sequential gearbox therefore the engine is blipping the throttle automatically, it is essentially semi auto. Watch how he only ever pushes or pulls as opposed to a H pattern shifter.
@andrea72h
@andrea72h 8 жыл бұрын
+Frontality It is sequential, of course, but the ECU only cuts the power on upshifts, triggered by a switch in the gear lever mechanism. On downshifts in this (quite old) video I am rev-matching by blipping the throttle with the side of my foot on the throttle while braking with the ball of my foot. It does have a spring-preloaded mechanism on upshifts so that the upshifts are faster and getting dog-to-dog isn't a problem like it can be with an un-sprung mechanism. As mentioned in my previous reply, it now has a fully-automatic paddleshift system that I made for it, that will upshift at pre-programmed engine speeds on it's own if you don't pull the paddle before the limiter. Downshifts are done in a similar manner, but it's brake pedal position and engine revs that activates the downshift if the paddle isn't pulled and the system is set in 'auto-downshift' mode. :-)

@wayneschofield5978
@wayneschofield5978 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, reverse gear? It's incorporated in the rear differential. The input shaft goes into the final drive case, over the top differential and there are drop gears and a reverse gear behind the differential. The pinion shaft then goes forward to drive the crown wheel round. It's an 'Elite racing transmissions MX200' final drive. It allowed the packaging of the transmission, rear suspension and the whole exhaust system to be really neat.
