This reminds me of way back in the day when I used to browse 4chan's anime board, around 2010-11 when the concept of a "waifu" was new and hadn't leaked out of 4chan yet. Once there was a thread where a guy shared his experience hallucinating anime characters, strangely it was limited to the cast of Haruhi. Haruhi, his waifu, was the one he saw the most. Mikuru as you'd expect nervously watched him from a distance. He couldn't really figure out what Yuki was around for, but he thought she was protecting him. Koizumi on the other hand, scared the shit out of him. He always felt nefarious, and would often watch from behind the glass as this guy was taking a bath. I can't really remember what Kyon did, but they seemed to be on okay terms. What struck me as the most odd was that this guy never exchanged words with them, it was more of some emotional bond. Another guy chimed in on this however, and he had a different situation. He would actively interact with his hallucinations, and this allowed him to play videogames with his anime waifu. This seemed to be the only positive aspect though, as he claimed his parents sometimes appearred completely out of nowhere and started screaming at him, and he'd have conversations with people that never actually happened

While aspects of the story reminded me of the hokey creepypastas where they get some possessed game from a garage sale or at a swap meet, I actually thought that it was slowly building up a nice creepy atmosphere.
