Welcome to the full review of the Haydenshapes Hypto Krypto soft which has been a whole lot of fun, and definitely one of the most high performance softboards ive ridden.
I have been riding the Hypto Krypto soft in the stock 5'8" X 20 1/2" X 2 5/8" - 34.18L.
From au.haydenshapes.com/collectio...
Modelled after our iconic Hypto Krypto, the Hypto Krypto Soft Top is a balance of tradition and modern performance with an added boost of fun. Built with a Full Grip Textured Deck, and shaped rails based on the original Hypto, this superior soft top offers performance capabilities you’d never expect from previous soft tops.
Suited for any caliber of surfer-everyday to elite-the Hypto Softie’s versatility and likeness to the original allows you to excel in surf even beyond small beach breaks.
At the very least: an extremely durable shape you’re sure to have a blast on.
In the Hypto Krypto soft I rode a variety of fins, but really enjoyed the T1's by Futures in their Thermotech technology.
From futuresfins.com.au/products/t...
The T1 Thermotech Twin +1 is Future's performance twin-fin designed for the type of small wave, in the pocket surfing that modern twin-fins are becoming known for.
Made in Huntington Beach, the Thermotech product line does not have the traditional plastic feel of a composite fin. Instead, they have a consistent flex that creates drive and release through turns.
Thermotech fins come with the Futures Truss Base, making them lighter and stronger. The set is equipped with the option to ride with a small trailer fin for increased stability creating more of a thruster feel.
Template Category | Neutral (balanced, all-around)
Construction | Thermotech
Size | Medium Twin +1
Thanks so much for watching, and thanks to Haydenshapes for the chance to check out the new Hypto Krypto soft - definitely one of the funnest "Softboards" I've been able to check out!

Very cool to see surfboard tech evolving and improving for surfboards, and the deeper review into HaydenShapes soft models. I think this makes the entry into the sport much less intimidating for beginners hooked after that first lesson, and for others looking to dabble in shortboarding.

Really helpful review, thanks Craig. Any recommendation on the following - I'm tossing up between the hypto soft or the MR epoxy twin soft for a summer board. Probably looking at the 6'0 in either, both a tad over 41L to make the most of smaller summer surf. I'm 5'11 and 90kg, usually ride a 34-35L shortboard. Also considering the MR 5'9 at 39.7L as I generally like boards a bit shorter being a shorter person, front foot doesn't end up too far forward. Thanks again for the top review.

Personally I much prefer the Hypto out of the two! I was a big fan of the regular Hypto, and this reminded me a lot of that board, so it was pretty hard to go past a soft version of it!

Hi Craig, was wondering what you thought of the LOOT soft top by HS? I rode one in a wave pool the other night. It was 6'6 and a bit of volume for me but I have to say it was so fun. I normally surf single fin 7'4-7'6 but these boards made me want to go back to surfing smaller boards again. Was thinking of Hypo in FF as 1 board and maybe the loot in soft as fun mess around board. Curious on what length to get since I ride longer boards but should I stick to the liter guide, Thoughts?

@@ItzPmacDoh44 yeah it was great. Main reason I wanted a soft top was because I kept smashing my boards on the concrete wall at the wave pool 😂 I rode it for about 6 months and now I’m back on my regular board. I found the hypto a bit slow and awkward to start with, but once I made the adjustment to focus on driving through my back foot it all came together.

Have you tried Catch Surf Skipper or RNF that would stack against this and the MR? Would love to have comparison. Some people dont get the reason why get softop but for us learning beginner/intermediate, they pump up the confidence to try new maneuvers and lines safer.

craig, i got myself a repaired Hypto krypto ( 6'4'PE) and ran F8 s in it as a thruster and it felt slow and yuk ... it felt like i had the brakes on . I am a below ave intermediate surfer. ON listening to you I then ran T1s with the small trailing fin and it felt so much better . Is this because the T1 is more raked ? and the F8 more upright. And perhaps now after a few years I am realising i like or prefer a more raked fin ? will check out your review of HK in PE and see the fins used there . Great videos , thx Gary

Never ridden an MF, but have ridden the Catch Surf! Catch surf are more your normal softboard construction, where this is almost trying to be a surfboard, wrapped in a soft exterior. Hey Mate, im looking for a new allrounder softboard. I used the 6.0 skipper with 48l of volume. It was fun in smaller waves. But now i need more perfomance (one board quiver) which should works also in bigger conditions. I weight around 92Kg and 188cm tall. Would you recon to stay with a 6.0 board or a 6.4 for some bigger conditons. Thanks for your review :) youre doing an awesom job. Cheers from Germany

If you were a beginner going from a 7 or 8 foot softboard onto a more performance shape - this would be the perfect stepping stone. Also areas where you can surf in the flags with them of course. You can where I live in NSW, but sometimes they’ll check your fins.

Great review and surfing, Craig. But for the price of the soft top at this moment, I would rather go for a regular Hypto Krypto. These new soft tops will hurt you the same way as a regular board. Once you ding it, it's a pain in the butt to repair it and there is no way to keep a good look. The regular board is easier/quicker to repair and it will last longer. Cheers!
@jakedavid2523
@jakedavid2523 2 жыл бұрын
It doesnt ding as easy though right? I recently blew one of my rails open on a fiberglass board in small sand bottom shore break. I'm thinking about a soft board for that spot now. For most applications yea it makes more sense to get a real board or a durable material hard board but sometimes a soft board would make sense.
@TheSurfboardGuide
@TheSurfboardGuide 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Skipper! Have you checked one out? I don’t think this would hurt you as a regular board would, 5mm of soft exterior would really soften any impact. And while it would be difficult to repair damage under that soft exterior, it would actually be difficult to damage it so you’d have to be pretty unlucky. And at $599 Aud, they’re considerably cheaper than a full Hypto that cost you roughly $1000 Aud. So, inclusion, I disagree with all the points you have raised… 😂
@TheSurfboardGuide
@TheSurfboardGuide 2 жыл бұрын
@@jakedavid2523 I don’t think it would ding as easy. It’s 5mm of EVA, so it’s going to absorb that impact/energy before damaging the board ✌️

@@TheSurfboardGuide yup, last year at Brave New World surfshop. You still wanna put the regular fins in it to get the max performance out of it. That’s pretty much evens out the chances to get hurt. The price point in US was different at that time. $580 vs $750😜
