How about conference final or bust? Of Canada’s NBA and NHL teams, keeping in mind that last spring the Oilers beat the Stars in the Western Conference final to make their first post-2006 trip to a Stanley Cup final, the conference final appearance drought of the: - Habs, at 3 seasons, is the shortest - Raptors, at 5 seasons, is the second-shortest - Jets, at 6 seasons, is the third-shortest - Sens, at 7 seasons, is the 4th-shortest - Canucks, at 13 seasons, is the 3rd-longest - Flames is the 2nd-longest, at: - 19 seasons if the 2004-05 NHL lockout is excluded - 20 seasons if the same lockout is included (particularly with no lock out that even by then had torpedoed an entire NBA season) - Leafs is the longest at 21 seasons even if the 2004-05 NHL lockout is excluded

@@kwaty AM34, among 13 forwards who played in 3 or more games for the Leafs in last spring's Leafs-Bruins postseason series, averaged the highest points per game at 0.8 although Nylander, with three and 0.75 respective goals scored and average goals scored per game, finished first on those last two metrics. Morgan Rielly, among him, AM34, Marner, Nylander and Tavares, was the only core-5 member to not score last postseason. Whether, should the Leafs qualify for the 2025 postseason, enough members of that team's roster will score goals when the going gets tough, still remains TBD.

More Sarah Davis please! ♥ Now, I don't know why people are shocked to hear any of this, he's saying it like it is. No BS, just saying that's our only goal for this year. Some years you hear players from all teams saying they hope to make the playoffs and see what happens. I'm happy to hear this. SARAH DAVIS you're the best!

The goal of every team every year is cup or bust, even if they were 32nd in the league last year. If you go into a season thinking "we just want to make the playoffs and we're happy" then you're not a competitor and likely not even going to make the playoffs. You can say things like "we're just focused on getting to the playoffs first" and that's fine, but if that's where your goal ends you shouldn't be playing.
@scottmiller8617Ай бұрын
Really? Do you think in San Jose or Chicago they're thinking cup or bust?

@@scottmiller8617 do you think those teams go home in the first round and feel successful?
@wainber1Ай бұрын
@@scottmiller8617 Winning a Stanley Cup should be the ultimate goal of each NHL team even if it takes multiple seasons to get to that point. The end of each season at the latest is a good time to assess what expectations each team had against what that team actually accomplished. Among Canada's NHL teams last season, the: - Jets, Leafs, Canucks and Oilers, in that order, were eliminated from the postseason, with the: -- last two teams having battled it out in a conference semi-final that had gone seven games and decided, in that final game, by one goal -- Leafs last postseason having gone 3--1 when having allowed under three goals -- Jets last postseason having extended their respective streaks of at least 4 and 5 goals allowed per game to 9 and 5 games - Habs and Flames continued their respective rebuilds although I hadn't seen either team likely to see playoff action - Sens got a season closer to equaling the Oilers' decade-of-darkness, with my having question just what it would take for the Sens to become the last Canadian team to make a post-2017 playoff appearance
