A journey from Hayes to Northolt prior to opening of bypass and closure of Hayes Town to through traffic. "The good old days"

Hi, thank you for posting this video, waited forever for the Hayes by-pass to open, these were the REALLY good times indeed. Lastly, i am asian, born in Hillingdon, living in Northolt, went to Greenford high, this place is not the same anymore, the innocence and white (english) people have gone, what a shame for this to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for this upload! The images brought back great memories. I grew up in Hayes End and remember the days before Hayes Town was pedestrianized. I moved to the US in 1996 and always like to see images of the old Hayes, it seemed so airy in those days! We visited during Christmas 2013 and were quite disappointed by what we saw of the area. Thanks again!

Rode and later drove this route many, many times. Lived in Yeading near to the shops. Went to Barnhill School infants and juniors in Owen Road. As a teenager I used to go with my mates to The Target on disco nights in the hope of "pulling a bird" (meeting a girl). At 7:22 there's a glimpse of the Co-op milk yard where I worked from 1974 to 1976. Like another world now...

Very interesting to see how Hayes looked like nearly 3 decades ago, when I wasn’t even alive. Looks quite similar today, but that roundabout near today’s “Tesco’s” looks quite different now.

As a planespotter in the 60s, I used to cycle regularly from Northolt to Heathrow via Hayes. Not much traffic in those days.

The Target pub I believe closed in the summer of 1989. I went in there for the one and only time in July 1989, it closed not long after.

Hayes by-pass was on the drawing board for good 40 years. Also took ages to build and at one stage ran out of money and stopped building it for years.

Went cycling on the Hayes bypass in August 1992 before it fully opened

Lived there from Scotland early to mid 90s. Eating out of Chippy etc on Uxbridge Road. Then from 1999 to 2010.

Thanks for the video, lovely to see my area again from when I was really young. It all looked nicer and greener then, Hayes/Northolt without the gangs and no Somalians. Definately the good old days.

I live in Hayes and Yeading all my life (born 1980). Who remembers the ‘Sweetmate’ Warehouse. think it was right at the end of Birchway My dad used to take me to the Tumbler pub and Old Crown in Hayes town every Sunday. I did work in the EMI warehouse in the early 90s as a temp worker, Used to love messing about in derelict buildings then that massive building right on the corner of blyth road old emi I think.

yes I remember before the pedestrianisation of hayes town- when I was 12-14 I could bus through there on a "140" from harlington school opposite heathrow airport- the best thing to say about that school is that its now reduced to rubble- (pre "saville" most teachers didn't take abuse seriously like they do now and so they didn't pick up on my past traumas- at least back then in 1990/91 there was no cyberbullies for a kid to worry about- all I got was stick for liking "m.c. hammer"- well to me hes worth 100 "harry styles" anyday of the week!-) lighter note- who remembers "hayes novelty store?"

Hayes bypass had Eastenders seen filmed on it. A joy ride seen even before bypass was opened. Even saw my old house on this vid lol.

This could have been a great video, if whoever the passenger was filming it hadnt concentrated on the dashboard, he just had to lift the camera up a little bit The driver could have slowed down a bit I know he couldnt have done down the bypass as it wasnt opened, it had been finished though Hayes hadnt been modernised in the 90's then The shopping mall opposite the grapes wasnt built, The Target pub was still shut down (it was always a bugger to get to for a pint I would have liked to have seen the Plough, before it got burnt down On the right in Northolt) Should have been more places of interest, pubs, shops But considering this was the 90's its not bad, but there was some very good video cameras on the market back then I wonder what he was using ?
