My favourite actress. She is an incredible one. Such a beautiful face then and now. My fav movie is the 'Chalk garden'. The Mills family had so much talent. Her father John, made so many great films. His part in, Ryan's daughter, and Hobsons' choice opposite, The great Charles Laughton, memorable performances. She still looks great today. It's sad she suffered, but brave enough to come out about her troubles, to help others. A true legend. Love her.

FV, thanks for this great trip down memory lane with my first love, Hayley Mills (at the time, I was the only 10-year-old boy on the street who found her more mesmerizing than Daniel Boone.) Though not often mentioned, “That Darn Cat” went to the top of my list because it featured my favorite animal, and Hayley. Though later years weren’t always easy for her, I’m glad she avoided the kind of headlines that plagued other former child stars-and she still has her grace and beauty.

@poorthing

Her Father was a renowned English actor, but I don't know if he was quite in the millionaire category. If he did handle his daughter(s) careers/finances-her money may have been the major funding supporting the family. It would seem he should have done better, a separate business manager might be better for kid actors. It's all too common to hear devastating stories of lost fortunes, much less when child actors who transition to adult roles is rare. They are left with nothing.

She was my absolute favorite! So many times you hear of mismanagement of a child star's money by family and managers and it's almost always the ones that are good natured and trusting. You can tell her good character even now at 77. Haley and Doris Day were my favorites. Doris was another one that was taken advantage of by those she trusted. Both women had beautiful spirits and character. It's hard to find Whistle Down the Wind but her performance at that age was amazing.

I had the feeling with John Mills (which may be completely mistaken) that he put both his daughters to work in films at a very early age - Juliet has a role in one of his films when she was a toddler - and it is worrying the he didn't take far more care of Hayley's money. He knew all about the business. Plus Haley developed an eating disorder because of the stress of always needing to look perfect. She was fragile and extremely gifted as an actress and she needed protection which she doesn't seem to have received. Her sister Juliet made many English films before going to America, so she had a chance to grow up without as much pressure as Hayley. I am extremely sorry that such a gifted child should have found herself in such a position years later.

My favorite roll is the one you did not mention and I see as her break through role. Gillie in Tiger Bay. I saw the movie when I was a young boy and the movie never left my head ever again due to her performance and Horst Buchholz his performance.

Lately she appeared in the Marple mysteries and others and still wants to watch her . We all have to grow old but as long as she's healthy who cares . We dont forget her famous dad too John Mills .both were watchable in their days . I like the fact she's not in your face all the time .

She was my first boyhood crush...I guess she is 10 years older than me but I probably saw most of her TV work when she was only a few years older.

This video, according to Hayley herself, is inaccurate. In her memoir, "Forever Young," she lost almost all of her money because of the horrendous taxation system of Great Britain. Her father, John Mills, had nothing to do with it.

Hayley did not have a relationship with actor Hywel Bennett, nor d 8:06 id she marry someone after that. She did have a child with actor Leigh Lawson, but they eventually broke up and he married Twiggy.

People need to get things in perspective. Working on a building site is a carpenter in the freezing cold in the winter your wife working on the land again in the freezing cold trying to bring up three children. Wife coming home putting the copper on to do the washing then cooking dinner for the three children. Then getting up the next morning to do it all againAll this not to save anything not to go out boozing and meals out just to put food on the table and pay the rent. This was my Nan and grandad and they never moaned once.

You're moaning though! Plus being fortunate doesn't mean you don't feel or suffer. There's plenty to things that affect rich and poor the same. My grandparents and parents had a very tough life going back to the 1890's but never once did I gear them moan OR whinge because someone had more than them. They lived being entertained at the "pictures" watching people that became wealthy. It was never an issue for them. Yes, there's lots of inequality in more ways than just monetary! Here they were telling us if mental health issues, which have run through part of my family and it is very destructive. Don't judge people in such a nasty way. I believe the Mill's family are genuinely good people and philanthropic and raise and support issues of the suffering. It's a good thing for well known people to raise the profile of good causes. There's too many martyrs about.

@@janeclarkson8471 I am not moaning just pointing it out it is insulting to real people. Saying that this woman had a hard life no more than that.

Being British she came to prominence in her first movie "Tiger Bay" playing a child who befriends a murderer. Her father John Mills played the detective in the movie. She never attained the same stardom as her father who was a British movie icon. Tiger Bay... kzbin.info/www/bejne/aH-4mp6Ja7uBaZY
