There is a grammatical construct called the "appositive clause" where a digressive concept is inserted into a sentence between commas. "I like tomatoes more than potatoes." "I like tomatoes, especially the ones from New Jersey, more than potatoes." This show makes masterful use of expanding what seemed a coherent narrative, by inserting appositive twists, to change up what you think you understood. And the showrunners gots lots of commas left.

Interesting meta concept. 👍 Finally. A comment that's not a veiled spoiler.

Just FYI… the flashbacks to Cooper Howard’s life take place in 2077. It looks like the 1950’s because American society became stuck in that era due in part because the transistor was not invented at the same time as our timeline, so science focused on developing nuclear power instead. No transistors means no digital computers means none of the advances that we experienced thanks to computers

Watch the intro to Fallout 4, it explain it somewhat
@RaptorNX01Ай бұрын
the behind the scenes reasoning was that they designed their future based on what people in the 50's thought the future would look like. the in-universe reason was that because the transistor didn't get made, alot of personal technology stagnated, and with it, culture and designs. since you didn't get things like color tv and such which had a huge influence on design choices. (notice how alot of tv shows and such in the 60s had very vibrant colors? its because they were finally able to show color, so overcompensated)

Ladies, you really need to play some of the Fallout games. I think that both of you would absolutely love the tone and feel of exploring the Wasteland and coming across even more messed up weirdness. The storytelling in the games is just as good as this series. You can actually amp up the weird factor in some of the game by taking a trait during character creation called "Wild Wasteland". It adds easter eggs to the game that your toon can stumble across from other sci fi IP's. A fridge in the middle of the wasteland with a skeleton in it that has a fedora and whip for example, lol. EDIT: Thanks for the reaction too!

Another fun/hilarious reaction and analysis Stella and Hayley. Can't wait for the next one. Fallout fun fact: The car Cooper Howard drives in the flash backs is a 1954 Kaiser Darrin. It's an American sports car built by Kaiser and was designed by (Howard) "Dutch" Darrin. There's the name Howard again. That's Interesting 🤔. The car has a fiberglass body and the doors side forward into the body to open. It had a 2.6L Inline 6 cylinder engine that made 90hp.

The continual adding of extra missions is very much taken from the games; players pick up new things to do, places to go all the time, before they've even finished one. The multiple open storylines emulates the games perfectly, coupled with Cooper's comment in an earlier episode "Thou shalt not get sidetracked by bullshit every single time" (or whatever the quote is) is a perfect description of what the games are like. There are hundreds of little side-quests and parallels and "bullshit" (as cooper would say).
@RaptorNX01Ай бұрын
A detail only game players would pick up on, when she unfurls the flag with the two-headed bear, the main theme from fallout plays. specifically, the theme you hear in the main menu music for Fallout New Vegas. in that game the NCR is one of the two main factions you can either join or fight against. Also of note, the chalk board has a bit of a production error on it. they admitted someone messed up when making it for the scene and it implies that the nuking of shady sands and the fall of shady sands is the same event. but they aren't. the bomb(s) went off sometime after shady sands fell (presumably after 2281). for context, Fallout New Vegas features the NCR and another faction called "The Legion" fighting over control of hoover dam. the game basically is the build up to the final battle for it. but its the second battle for hoover dam. the first actually occurs years before the game (which takes place in 2281) where the NCR technically won, but suffered heavy losses. and as you talk to various NCR soldiers across the Mohave region, where the game takes place, you get two impressions, one, they are all still there from when that battle happened. and two, that all is not well in the NCR, lack of new troops, desperation on the part of the higher ups, lack of supplies from home, etc. and you never really are told why. you just assume they are stretching themselves too thin. the year of that first battle? 2277.

Howard refers to it when he taps on the vault wall and says "Thick enough to keep out the rads... and the Reds." (And then the cheezy wink.... pefrection!!)
@arsewyndАй бұрын
you guys are fun. Did you catch that the scientist family cooper talks to in the AD are named Hawthorne the same as the lab Lucy and Max went into for the supplies. In fallout "The Reds" are china. Review what was said in the commercial, explains a lot. The scene where Lucy goes into the classroom is worth revisiting, full of info about Shady Sands and the New California Republic which the two headed bear is a symbol of. Also the first time in the series they play the games theme music. How did Moldaver survive? Well IMO the answer is shown when Lucy goes to level twelve. IMO the Shady Sands memorial was symbolic just like you don't eat flesh or drink blood in church. Lucy fails a sneak test. The second season is already underway

I am assuming it is because they are focusing on the mysteries and not general world exploring like the first half of the season. This show is set up oddly to me. The first four episodes could have been combined into one, they don't really encourage attachment to any of the characters, and they don't even start to get into the mystery until the fifth episode (out of eight). I am getting the feeling that there are not going to be any conclusions in the finale, but likely another mystery and a "big" reveal.

The boat's sailed long ago on that one (19th century at least). "Like" either as a speech filler or as a discourse particle signifying a pragmatic approximation is a perfectly valid device in spoken colloquial English, and it's natural it'd be used most often in live and unscripted contexts - such as reaction videos. "Like" peevery is the modern equivalent of hating on split infinitives, and it gets way more hate than any other of the myriad English fillers and approximators that escape unscathed ("if you will", "sort/kind/along the lines of", "you know", "more or less", "I mean", "one could say", "the thing is"...), probably because "like" is the least verbose and so the least "educated"-sounding, suggesting that classism plays a role.
