Let’s not forget that we are literally doing school with our children, so as the math gets harder, we are prepared for it because we’ve been learning along with them.❤️

I went to public school in Germany, which is a world different from North American education, meaning that I didn’t know how to read until I was 8 😃. There was a lot of physical activity, outdoors and creativity in our daily school day. When we moved to Canada, at the age of 11 I was reading the 5th Harry Potter book (for fun) which is 300+ pages. I read waaay more than the kids that grew up here and learned to read before I did. The point you make about efficiency and teaching when the child is motivated, really resonated with me ❤

Homeschooled both my kids from K through 12. We are a very close family and we really enjoy being together. That is the best thing we got out of homeschooling . My kids are doing great in the workforce and employers know that homeschooled kids are responsible, respectful, articulate, and kind. The result of homeschooling speaks for itself. No need to defend it.

Hi Hayley 😊, Ford Transit Mama here! You are doing awesome!! You’ve learned so much in a year, so proud of you. I’ve took my kids outta private school and began homeschooling 3 years ago (again). It was so different than before. I got more laid back, kids still learned, did great on their standardized tests (I was surprised). I feel there is a season for all homeschooling stages. You are ahead in your thinking!! I admire that as I learn as I go along. Keep it up. You are a fantastic mama 🤩!

I feel like with the rise in homeschoolers and various fb groups as well as different places like science centres, farms etc doing programs for homeschoolers during the day, its so much easier to homeschool.

We started homeschooling this year. My kids are 8, 5, and 2. My oldest went to a private school, when we started learning math, I bought curriculum for her grade level. It turns out she was struggling and I ended up placing her a year below. I finally found a curriculum that is easy for me to understand to teach it and my child is no longer struggling. I highly recommend math mammoth if you are looking into a math curriculum. I bring my kids to work because I am self employed, they interact with adults a lot. We started taking them to the playground to meet other kids. I’ve noticed that they have started to initiate talking to new kids and getting acquainted with them even if we are only meeting them once. They know how to treat others with respect and it’s so cute to see them carry out a conversation.

We would bring our kids to playgrounds too and I noticed the same thing with socialization. I also noticed a lot of the other kids didn’t know how to react to a kid like that. The other kids would just stand there in silence.

I think it’s really sad that moms shame other moms and make them feel unqualified to teach when their are literally TEXTSBOOKS that help to teach. It’s very odd to me that they tear other mothers down. Great job this is awesome information!

Are you…me? 😂 I related so hard to every single thing you said. I also struggle with structure / consistency and used to be more of a business minded person too so maybe there’s a correlation there. Anyway thank you for the tips! We sent our 4 year old to prek but ended up pulling him out. Homeschooling is a learning curve but so worth it!

People also think that kids learn all of their social skills from interacting with other kids but in fact they are learning from us as well. We are the example! I am a very social person so my daughter watches me interact with other people all day and is creating her "social programs" that are being wired into her brain...up until the age of 7 they are creating those programs and how we behave and interact with others is a very important program in my opinion! ❤❤

Thank you for this video and your other video showing a day in the life homeschooling. Your dedication and respect for your children, spouse and self is evident. I'm in the curriculum research phase but we will be homeschooling our 3 & 5 yr olds next year. they are in daycare and K now but since this April they've been in Kumon for Reading and Math. Since starting Kumon they have done so much better and are more curious. I will continue to use Kumon for Reading and Math during homeschooling but still teach these subjects as well as the other required one in my restrictive state. I found a farm that has a wonderful school that offers a science-nature program for homeschoolers that my children will enroll in one day per week 9-3 and then we will do the rest from home. any book recs are appreciated. I am finishing an academic program which is why i'm not starting them this year. I'm treating this school as a babysitter warts and all. I wish you all a joyful, fruitful, restorative and close knit experience.

I went to school in a third world country until about age 13, when I moved to the US. In my country, you don’t start school until about 7 or 8, and yet we already know algebra fully by 12. In the US, kids start school at like 4 and can’t even do algebra as adults. It’s almost as if starting too young is a good way to fail….because it is. Teaching a young child takes more time, energy, and you risk them giving up because it’s too hard. Trying to teach a 7 year old something that you tried teaching them at 4 will take 100 times less time, and will also stick much better. It’s like parents who brag their babies talked at 10 months. Like who cares? At 15, no one will know who spoke when. It’s just a dumb thing to focus on and memorizing facts your parents crammed down your throat is not intelligence, intelligence is logic and reasoning. I used to tutor calculus and some of the smartest kids were the ones who had horrible grades because they had no structure or time management, whereas a lot of the smart kids just had good test taking and study skills.

I love your belief system and your 🔥!- I sooo didn’t fit into the overly disciplined, inside for hours a day at a table, forced school at too young of an age, “striving for high intelligence” traditional homeschool community I was seeing/experiencing. My kids need more play-based learning and flexibility and life-learning with minimal drill-based crap/excess work 😂. I’m eager to learn more life-based learning strategies and engagement-based strategies and more 5-hr school week strategies!!

Girl I feel like a weight lifted off me and I can breathe after listening to so many of your points! Iv been doing the whole letter a a month with so many “fun” activities it’s also like pulling teeth cause my 3.5 old has not really been into most of the things. And I feel like she needs to learn all this stuff but I think your right shes is too young for a lot of what I thought she needed. And it feels good to know they can learn more in a short time once they are older!

I was the same way too. I think a lot of it has to do with comparing your child to other children and even more so the fear of others comparing your child to other children especially if the people around you aren’t so fond of the homeschooling idea. At least that’s what I felt like for myself.

A 3.5-year-old doesn't need to read, read if they can't understand is like me reading Russian, nothing. Let her be for a couple of years, more "fun" and forget the letter a month for a while.

This makes me feel better about the decision to homeschool my soon to be kindergartner. I have her enrolled in public school for the fall but my husband and I just don’t feel good about it. Plus I’m a SAHM with other younger kids. I do have worries because she wants to go, she’s very social and I’m not exactly. The only place we socialize is church haha. Also, she has somewhat of a speech delay and it’s taken a lot of time to get her talking and she still has some trouble communicating. I just need to have more trust and confidence in myself.

I was a preschool teacher. We never did, a sit down do AH AH A... for an hour or more. We "taught" the same way you just described your youngest sitting around doing learning for fun. I personally worked with 2-4 year olds. Everything we did was play based learning and they absorb that super fast, most unless they have a disability or struggled with certain types of learning, the children spend how ever long they need to learn it in whatever way they need to learn it in. We have centers with themes, sensory bins, games, field trips, hands on activities, videos, puzzles, music, art etc. Not every preschool is done this way but we had very happy intelligent kids and I was very proud of teaching at that school. We did child lead learning as well, if there was a bigger interests than what we planned we would scratch it and follow what they wanted to do. I just wanted to let you know not many preschools do that these days. I homeschool my youngest and I learned to be a good homeschooling mom through my preschool teachings. Learning with the kid, at their pace, with their interests. Its not like public school which most suck for all the reasons you mentioned in your other videos lol. I agree with those for sure. I still enjoy your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences.

Yeah here in Texas it’s super easy you don’t have to file anything however there are no grants or anything or even tax benefits to it. So essentially we’re spending money on property taxes that go to schools which our kids don’t attend and then spend on their own curriculum we purchase for them. We will be doing apologia math, TGTH language arts, answers jn genius homeschool Bible curriculum and read and find out science and then plenty of read aloud

Any moms out there that homeschool and live with in-laws or other family? I feel like I’ve been struggling to get consistency this whole year. I want to homeschool and we did join a group but I fall into the habit of staying at home and not engaging the kids(on off days) for fear(or dread) of making a mess at my in-laws. I feel like my freedom to homeschool (and homemake) is restricted. Am I the only one? 😓

I like homeschool since kids learn faster and you cAn Taylor it to your kids strengths/weaknesses. I send me kid to preschool for socializing and playing . Not even to learn letters. Kids can learn to read at a young age isn’t necessary.

We've really loved the All About Reading program. It has hands on activities that keep them interested. Sometimes we just swap the assigned reading story for a reader they've picked at the library (but the stories in the books tie right into the lessons they've just learned). The curriculum is a little pricey, but I've found them super affordable secondhand at homeschool sales.
