This is so inspiring! 📚 If you’re looking for more ideas to help kids stay entertained and enjoy life beyond screens, there’s a book called Breaking Kids Free from Screen Addiction that’s packed with fun activities and ideas. It’s great for helping kids find new ways to have fun without always reaching for a screen.

I am so glad you talked about cut out screen time yourself! I hear so many people talk about the negative things about screen time for kids but it’s just as harmful for our minds; and we cannot teach our kids without being disciplined ourselves. That’s the hard part. Take care of your own mind and the rest with follow. I got a flip phone two months ago and I wouldn’t be able to be mindful with my time if I hadn’t don’t that. Thank you for this podcast!

I have to say, I'm listening to this while folding laundry and my two kids, age 5 and 10, are having screen time... I absorbed every word from this podcast and I can relate sooo much with everything... i try to limit things, have one day a week without them, but the addiction is there, and as you said it, they are hoovering over me constantly, although they have a schedual with screens. STILL it's a constant struggle, like the elephant in the rooom... yes, they enjoyed books way more in the early years, but since screens happened, the attention span, the love for reading, it's all affected by this. And I count on their screen time to get things done. Plus, screens are also a way of bargaining to them, it gives them extrinsec motivation and that's not good. Your honesty trought this podcast also made me be honest with myself. Your way of cutting them off it's the rght, efficient way, cuz I'm constantly putting limits and sticking to a scheduale and they constantly want more. The fact that you said that there is life after this, gives me the courage to try and have a honest conversation with them, then putting their phone in a seif 😅... hoping they can overcome this addiction, cuz it is... it is constantly on their mind. And yes, I see a lot of their peers/friends in the same boat.. it is sad and concerning.

It’s such a mindset shift and it takes being intentional but definitely being screen free with young kids is such a great thing for the kids. I feel being screen free just gives them so many more opportunities to create, learn and grow.

We are raising our kids this same way & I love seeing other moms raising their kids the same! My kids go around so many kids who don’t even seem like they know how to play or stay still at a restaurant without a screen :/ When my kids try to interact with them it’s like pointless because they are on their moms phones! I’ve been really been focusing on peace in my home. Love this so much! 💕 Excited to go watch/listen to the older ones!

Haven't even watched this yet, but I usually love your content. I haven't owned a TV in 15 years. Have 2 kids, ages 4 and 1. We've never used screens with them and we don't miss it. They happily play without it. And we don't own smartphones. Television is called "programming" for a reason....

I think my kids love the library because of the community. There are toys, reading time, activities, and I even saw a playground at a library in California. I also think when parents prioritize reading to children, then the seed of loving to read is planted.

I am another mama who is right there with you!! At this point it’s course correction and it starts with me! At the top of the year I switched to my carriers flip phone and used a garmen for about 3 months and then was able to go back to my iPhone with self control and less anxiety. I did delete all social apps and removed the rest of the apps from the Home Screen, I just selected send a text for authentication and didn’t have problems. Thank you for sharing openly what so many of us are walking through!

I love this topic! I have a 3 and 5 year old. My husband loved giving my daughter who was 2 at the time the tablet everyday. I hated it! I am a 90s baby too and I had a great childhood without screens and I been talking to him about cutting out screen time before its too late. Now we give it to them only on the weekends during the evenings and sometimes we don't. Also, I realized from seeing my family that have much older kids 10 and 14 years old, they think everything is boring! We went on a road trip and they were so bored! But well behaved, but they didn't enjoy anything. It was disheartening to see because all they want was their phones. My husband and I LOVE to do little road trips to P.A and N.Y for the day we live in Maryland so we go and explore and sight see and dine-in restaurants and I want my children to love that too. I am also guilty of being addicted to my phone and becasue I am addicted, i don't want my children following those same footsteps

So true they think everything is boring. Currently working on less screen time with my children too because I want them to enjoy the world around them. I want them to love to read also. It actually doesn't take long for children to adjust to life without so much screen time. You can actually see the difference and benefit in your children without so much screen time.

I took our TV down today and i also switched my sim card to my light phone (a very expensive dumb phone). It is just too tempting and it has become a crutch for me. I loved listening to your experience, its so helpful and I agree totally with what you are saying! We all know that technology has gone too far and has crossed the line especially in the family, I think many people want to make a change, but its very hard. I have gotten to that point and I hope that I can be a much better mom and example to my family through the changes i am making. I look forward to listening to your podcast as I downloaded it on my light phone, so next time I will listen to it on there instead of here on this channel.

Loving this content. I’m pretty likeminded, was working on getting pretty close to no screens and then got pregnant and was super sick and started to rely on them again. Now unfortunately recovering from a miscarriage with complications and so more screens. It’s been awful, my kids have been so much worse behaved and more hyper and even sleeping worse. I’m feeling so guilty about it but trying to give myself grace for a tough time and hopefully will be well enough physically and mentally to soon to cut them out again.

I am sorry for your loss. Something similar happened to me. My husband got severe depression and has ADHD. I was also full time in college. So that is how my daughter got addicted to screens. I was just so burnt out. Just do your best and know that time will pass. I am now to the point where I feel I can remove the screens. I would say reach out for help if there is anyone you know who can help. But, there are times in life where you just do your best, and that is okay!

We probably use about 1 hour of screen time a week. The rest she's in libraries, parks, museums, the pool, doing crafts etc etc etc This is the kid that will throw her ipad if you ask "want to go to the park" But we use the iPad for learning 90% of the content is reading/ math/ science.

Part of the issue is that we no longer are carrying phones, we’re carrying a mini computer with us. If you kept your phone but trained your mind to think of it as a computer and then had a flip phone for calls when you’re out and about or texts even when home, then you’d be reaching for a phone to keep in touch not a mini computer. And then after the kids go to bed you can have your mini computer back.

One very Important aspect I want to bring up is this "screen free life" will be more successful if both parents are in agreement.
