You'll notice this cool detail since Arlong Park and even up to the current arc. In Arlong Park, Zoro that can use multiple swords fought the octopus who can also use multiple swords, Sanji with his footwork fought the one that does karate, and Usopp with his long nose fought the one with the big lips lol

Here's some cool trivia: In the manga, Garp's assistant with the fedora is unnamed, but in the anime his VA is credited as playing the character "Bogart". The theory out there is that this character's design was influenced by the famous actor Humphrey Bogart. It's well known that Oda likes to do this, as many of the other admirals are modeled after famous Japanese actors and comedians.

Golden Week is a week of 4 holidays in japan (it was actually two weeks ago) April 29th: Showa Day (celebrating the emperor's birthday), May 3rd: Constitution Memorial Day (celebrating the enacting of their constitution), May 4th: Greenery Day (a day to get out and enjoy nature), and May 5th: Children's Day (Celebrating children's happiness and personalities). In One Piece manga, there are this thing called Cover Page Stories. Its like a "what is happening around the world behind our POV" kind of thing. A one page panel about a certain topic and this coby-helmeppo filler is actually one of them. So in my eyes, its actually canon. But yeah, they are one-pagers so to fill the gaps depends on the reader's imagination. The cover page story was called The Diary of Koby-Meppo which covered 30 chapters in total (83-119) Cover pages are special, they can be color spreads or an advertisement for a OP movie and many more. Just wanna share. Yohohohoh

These two Koby and Helmeppo episodes are manga cover stories. The same goes to that "Little Buggy" episodes before Loguetown. The weird thing about it is that the anme did not show other "canon" manga cover stories anymore. I heard that the reason why is because a technical authoral right issue, cause the episode have to use several "ISBN's" as basis and this is somehow difficult to trade with the studio.

@@Satori_kun Sraw Hat separation was not the same case. Toei took just two ISBN's cover references per episode and develops the "filler" over them. I heard the problem was to take dozens of ISBN references... Something about the technicians receiving over this amount of "original" works being something that authoral rights around the world did not forseen. So, its more like a "burocratic" complication. And makes sense when you see why Jango, Hachi, Ace, Gedatsu, Goldenweek, CP9 or Enel stories were not made by animation instead of using fillers arcs or extra adition.

The show runners wanted to show Koby and Helmeppo entering the Grand Line, but were unaware that Oda (the author) already had a different lore method for how Marines enter the Grand Line. And thus, the news paper article they’re reading is directly contradicted later on in the anime and manga, since it was never canon.
