14:40 Shu Shu (same as Fry's dog from Futurama) is based on a real story: Hachikō was an Akita dog who every day would accompany his owner to take the train to work at Shibuya station in Tokyo, and then pick him up when it was time for him to arrive. In the meantime he would just wonder around, shopkeepers from the area would give him treats, and so on. One day, the owner didn't come back, he died of a cerebral hemorrhage while at work. I actually appreciate that the live-action is not straight carbon copy of the original manga\anime. (but still maintain it's spirit and all the basic concept) so when we watched the anime, it's like a new experience
@bethanybrookes84798 ай бұрын
Tbh, a shot for shot carbon copy would be kinda. Useless. Coz we already have the manga and the anime, and then if you don't wanna sit through all 45 episodes/ 95½ chapters that the live action covered, there's the episode of East blue and episode of nami and episode of luffy (tho those are quite a lot spoilerey and I would recommend them as nothing more than a recap for people coming back to the series after a break, and who have reached as far as dressrosa). But anyway, the whole story of the east blue has been told and retold in practically the same form multiple times, so it's nice to see it in a slightly different format. It's like an alternate universe, one where garp is just a little more persistent, buggy a little more broken (guys abandonment issues really did shine through in the LA), zoro is a little bit more tsun and aloof, ect. Because all of one piece previously has been told through a very Eastern lens on story telling. Even the stage shows and such. And the live action is a lot more Hollywood. It opens the story up to people who aren't used to the way storytelling is done in the east, because there are differences. Subtle enough, but people do notice it, in the way characters are written and in the way they speak and the way information is shared. Tho it is starting to blend more into western story telling now that more anime and manga fans are getting into Hollywood writers rooms. TLDR, the live action has value in its differences from the anime and manga, and tbh, I'd it wad trying to recreate the anime beat for beat, it would feel so much more empty and hollow, like how the FMA movies were.

Chouchou is based on a dog that was in Japan which Fry dog from Futurama based on too. Today, it's one of the most popular meeting places in Tokyo.

Almost every character is in the Live in some way. The creators said that they couldn’t include every story beat but they still wanted to acknowledge them so they included the characters as background Easter eggs. Man, so many people beat me to everything I was gonna say, like how Chouchou and Mohji are both in the live action for, like, a second, and how the One Piece was confirmed to be an actual physical thing and not just "the friends you make along the journey." Oda had to specify that because a lot of people were wondering if that was what it was, and he knew something like that would piss a lot of people off, so he made sure to clarify that the One Piece is an actual tangible object; nobody except, like, ten people in the whole world know what it is, though. I guess no one's pointed out that Mayor Boodle is also in the live action, with pretty decent casting. I think he's even in his armor in the live action, for some reason, even though he's a captive like the rest of the citizens of Orange Town. I really like the Chouchou episode, because it sets up a lot of what makes One Piece special. It takes time with the most insignificant characters to really flesh them out and make you care about them and the places they live in. It's masterfully written, and it doesn't stop being like this.

2:48 this is actually a great point from Luffy. Nami is trying to justify herself by saying she's not really a bad person because she only steals from pirates ("bad people"). Whereas Luffy is being more honest because he's saying that the act of stealing is what makes you a thief, so don't make excuses basically. Also, the japanese Luffy doesn't consider himself a "good pirate" or "hero", he owns the title of 'pirate', he's not saying stuff like in the live action: "I'm a different kind of pirate", implying that he's a "good guy"
@insanelyartfulll9 ай бұрын
I was excited for this one~ ChouChou's part is such a punch in the gut. I wish his story could have been in the live action, but I get why it was cut. Still, it's a great early tell of just how emotional One Piece can get. And I just love how much that one moment does for the story. Showcasing the best qualities of Luffy's character and how much he pays attention to those around him. Helping Nami see that Luffy isn't some evil pirate. Even showing how cruel Buggy and his crew can be. Brilliant writing. :') Also, anime Luffy isn't concerned with good vs. evil. He judges others based on how they act in the moment and whatever vibes he gets from them. If he likes someone, he likes them. Like Zoro chopping up bounties so bad they're unrecognizable. Not a good thing to do, but Luffy hardly cares when Zoro is a cool dude with cool swords that he likes spending time with. And Luffy probably doesn't bother with analyzing his own place in the moral scale either. Plain and simple, he's selfish and has no problem with this. He wants what he wants and doesn't sweat the details. And this "selfishness" can manifest in very selfless ways. Such as getting himself nearly killed to help a friend with things that don't concern him at all. Or going out of his way to help a dog that bit him. He said it early in the show: "I'm doing this because I want to." Luffy isn't a hero and doesn't want to be one, but he has a big heart, too. Just one of the things that make him really fascinating. Oda definitely places a lot of heart and value in friendship and enjoying the journey, but he hates stories that don't bother to have an actual reward/end goal. I'd say Luffy values his friends and the adventure more than whatever the One Piece will be, but it isn't a kind thing to do to an invested audience, so I applaud Oda for making sure we aren't set up for disappointment.
