MAN thank god this is done i was going crazy frying to finish and i honestly thought i could squeeze ep 3 in casue in my head nothing super important happened but due that i found i had ALOT more to say about it XD anyway despite my nick pickyness i did enjoys episode 2 and to be far i did have "fun" in a sense watching hazbin its an over stimulation art piece thats fun to look at but trying to follow along with the story and characters and there growth is nonexistent hazbin to me feels like a mix between a long music video and a flashy portfolio only designed to show of the animation and characters designs any way still suprised Sir P became my favorite character but seeing as how he was never supposed to come back i can see some thought actually went into him XD

I get what you're saying but I suppose it was to show how manipulative Vox can be and to show that their relationship (while toxic) isn't as abusive as their archived non-canon insta posts showed them as. I think Valentino's fragile ego also plays a part in Vox's subtle mockery.

My personal headcanon is that there is no day/night cycle in hell and that "days" are just 24 hours. Which, before the institution of "days" in Hell, would drive sinners insane by quickly losing track of time, but does not affect the hellborns.

Headcanon Time! Since TVs seem to constantly get upgraded with the times (and that in one of the background pictures where Vox seemed to look more like an older version of one) I'd like to think that Vox USED to sound like one of those old-school news man (however you said it), but it "upgraded" along with TVs overtime (It's actually just fancy effects to cover it up as best he could) and his original voice comes back whenever he's angry or glitching out
@LovesArt23
@LovesArt23 7 ай бұрын
I saw that pic and not that you say that I kinda wish he glitched out more like it cant be good to take a part something that is basically your head and put a new in on with something getting wired wrong it like his new head and his older body aren't working cause he was never supposed to do that kinda like when you jail break your phone and it starts acting weird cause you broke its code

@@LovesArt23 I know they didn't intend that but that would've been really cool if implemented, like Vox being so obsessed with upgrading that he hardly cares about whether the upgrades are compatible with his body and probably even forces parts together and just shoddily patches himself up, leading to glitches and other issues that he just tries to fix with more upgrades

When it comes to villains, there's nothing wrong with goofy or sympathetic villains, with Bill Cipher, Beetlejuice and The Sanderson Sisters being really good examples of goofy villains and Frankenstein's Monster, Vlad Plasimus and The Phantom of The Opera being really good examples of sympathetic villains; however, if the villain is supposed to be evil and therefore a threat, then they should be intimidating in order to get the point across through their appearances, voices, personalities, etc. I think the old Disney Villains such as Queen Grimhilda (The Evil Queen), Maleficent, Scar, Oogie Boogie, The Horned King and Judge Frollo are a classic example of an intimidating villain, while The Other Mother/The Beldam, Lord Barkis, Death the Wolf, The Beast from "Over the Garden Wall" and Emperor Belos are a modern example of an intimidating villain. I think the only reason why Vivziepop didn't make her characters a lot more sinister is either she loves goofy villains or because of the "cancel culture" thing (Which, by the way, I genuinely hate "cancel culture" with a burning passion, no offense, of course). Also, when the comes to the voices of Vox and Valentino, I think Keith David would be the perfect voice for Valentino, especially since his characters, Dr. Facillier and The Cat from "Coraline" both have a deep and raspy voice, which I think fits Valentino perfectly and as for Vox, I think Alex Hirsch would be the perfect voice actor for Vox because the voice of Bill Cipher is actually what I had in mind for Vox, I don't know, if it would fit Vox perfectly, but that's coming from me.
@blackchickiedee7
@blackchickiedee7 7 ай бұрын
Fr I agree, production was able to get Keith David, someone who is perfect at voicing sinister characters which most of us thought that's how Valentino was going to be perceived given what we knew about him and only to be... let down again. Well, I was anyway lol. And I could see Hirsch playing Vox, or even the person who voiced King Dice in the game not series. And if the creator wanted to avoid "cancel culture" then why make a show set in hell?
@alyssamay9237

Only problem with Keith Davis playing Val is that he's currently the voice of Husk, so he'd have to do two different voices for the two (though I have no doubt he could pull it off)

My opinions on Ep 2. • we NEED more focus on the hotel and the sinners •more Vees being actual danger to the hotel as in sending spies as “sinners” to sabotage the hotel’s progress • more interaction with the cast to build something at least, More depth into the Vees relationships •Develop on the A and B plot a lot more and develop the characters more. • and the pacing…just the pacing is faster then Sonic… • man I feel I have a lot of opinions on this episodes and I feel it should be like. • Importantly, More Sir P moments. I've seen so many reactions and honestly i wanna watch one where they DON'T watch the pilot at any point and don't read comment spoilers and see how well they're still able to keep up with it cus i feel like the show is relying on you having watched the pilot and seen live streams/tweets from viv or something to the point that it becomes a crutch to try to get it to sprint to the finish line. But even then it feels insane trying to keep up with every shift in focus. Like I know this isn't from this episode(s) but when the "Hell's Greatest Dad" song came up it caught me so off gaurd initially like it felt like i was being ambushed or jumpscared by the song. And i LOVE that song but holy shit it felt like it just whipped the focus so hard it might as well have snapped my neck doing it.

Here's my rewrite of episodes 2-3 Episode 2 - The meeting continues between Adam, Lute and Charlie. Charlie and Adam have a tense yet amicable air between them while Lute (who's Adam's personal guard/on and off again lover) merely glares at her - The two talk about the extermination and how while it is effective in controlling the population, it isn't a long term solution as Charlie points out that some demons have managed to fight back against the exorcists (not outright killing them, but dealing near fatal blows because if blessed weaponry exists in HB, with Moxie even referencing Carmine, it isn't too far fetched to say demons have figured out and opposite to harm angels. Though to make sure this isn't a mary sue mcguffin, these weapons are few and far between and their creation is a secret) with Charlie even threatening that it wouldn't be long before hell decides to rise up against heaven once again if redemption isn't given a chance - Adam, miffed and just a bit afraid of her threat as those contracted to the deadly sins/overlords tend to have greater abilities that angels blessed by the seven virtues (yes heaven has a contract system too just to make it parallel to Hell) as these men and women are encouraged to use their abilities with reckless abandon while heavens citizens are taught to seldom give into more sinful desires, which means when put into a real fight, they wouldn't necessarily survive the encounter. He relents and gives her half a year to get one soul into heaven. Charlie smiles at the two (even shaking Adam's hand to seal their agreement and in turn contracting Adam to her) once more and heads back to Hell, calling her father and telling him the deal has been made. - We then cut to the meeting between the overlords, specifically on Velvet. She's mega pissed at Lucifer for essentially cowing her into submission but holds her tongue due to Belfaghor glaring at her (she's contracted to him alongside Vox and before death she made this deal to be the hottest influencer in the UK). Lucifer announces that Charlie has Adam under her rule and that he'd like for every sin and overlord to release one soul to her so that they can be apart of her program. The group agrees, though Velvet is silent. She heads back to the Vs HQ and relays the news, with Valentino and Vox getting upset. The three then concoct a scheme to sabotage the hotel using angel and sir pentious, an inventing buddy of Vox's - Another cut but this time to Sir P, who has his own business and isn't comic relief. He creates steampunk based weaponry for demons to use during the war for territory, though he isn't on par with Carmine. It shows him completing another sale before Vox personally comes to see him. They exchange pleasantries used during their respective time periods on Earth before getting to the heart of the matter; Vox offers Sir P a chance to be his successor as a technology based overlord in exchange for him helping in ruining the hotel.

I still think it was a wasted opportunity that it was only Charlie who continued to vouch for Pentious and not Angel Dust. Like hear me out; the song starts right after we witness Vox cussing out Pentious and calling him and failure and even telling him to off himself. I really wish we could've gotten a part with Angel realizing "oh shit... he and I aren't so different" and then (maybe a bit begrudgingly) siding with Charlie when she chooses to give him a second chance. I mean, just minutes ago we had the scene where Angel is listening to his voicemails from Valentino. They were clearly setting up parallels and they just... didn't do anything with them?

I definitely agree with what you said about the fandom carrying the show. Even after watching the pilot for the first time the fandom is what kept my interest and made me get attracted to the characters . Although I enjoyed the few official comics we got, honestly I wish we got more of those cause the writing and pacing of those were top notch! Like comic Valentino is what I was expecting from show Valentino going into the show, I really didn’t like his introduction at all, it felt like they were trying to use him as comic relief which made his whole thing in episode four feel…well, less impactful honestly, like I kinda struggled taking him seriously too. However the fandom! Hoo! They do such a good job giving life to the characters! I love seeing all the headcanons, stories and theories! Hell the fandom even made me care for the HuskerDust ship! Which I didn’t really like at the start.

Val's voice genuinely surprised me and I don't know if this is a hot take or not but I actually kinda prefer the distorted voice most fan comic dubs of Val do mostly Paranoid DJ's comic dubs, I dunno maybe that's just me. I agree that Angel feeling like he isn't being appreciated but constantly acting like he doesn't care about Charlie's cause is really confusing. I'd understand if we were shown that he does actually care, like maybe the moment of him listening to Val's voice messages he throws his phone across the room and walks over to the window, and looks up at the portal to heaven (since it's visible in hell's sky, sometimes) and reaches out to it. So far this show suffers from the same problem as Helluva Boss of just going way too fast, it's like they want to get the episodes over and done with as quick as possible. I still need to watch the last few episodes of this season but I do hope when season 2 drops they slow the pacing down a bit. Anyway take your time with Ep 3's review and your redesigns. It's always a joy to seem them when they drop!

💚 So I also have *a lot* to say, which sorry if they feel really random and have no flow. So, 1. I never noticed how messed up Val’s voice is until you pointed it out, but now that I hear it, I agree. Like idk what was going on in the creators heads when they thought this was okay. 2. I think it’s fine that Vox was shocked at knowing Alastor was at the hotel since he’s been gone for 7 years, but I do agree that Val knowing it before him was strange. 3. I feel like the scene where we’re introduced to the Vee’s would have flowed better if Niftry asked about them after the fight with Sir P. Which speaking of him, I really like your idea at 10:13. And other re-write ideas you have. (Not just for this episode) You’re not only great at art and design, but also in writing. 👏 Genuinely impressed. Anyways, I agree with reviews that the show feels way too rushed. Like they are too quick with the important things, too slow with others, such as the Vee’s introduction. A lot of the decisions made with this show, and honestly Helluva boss as well, is just so confusing. (Also 4:58 l remember seeing this funny/cute headcanon that Rosie taught him those words, but since it's not canon, I agree that it's weird hearing him say things like that) OKAY I’M FINALLY DONE TALKING NOW.

I also enjoyed episode 2, it's honestly my favorite along with episode 4. What I think would've worked with Sir P was that it would've been cool to have a whole character arc for him and have that build up of the guy gaining the trust of the main cast since the reason Sir P was even in the hotel was because of Vox so it would've an amazing arc to have him trying to gain the trust of the main cast and have that built up of betrayal when they find out that Sir P was working with the V's, that honestly would've been solid if each episode and so on Sir P is trying to gain the trust of others so that he could betray them but instead realizing that he enjoys being liked and such, that would've been an amazing character arc for him. I also gotta add for episode 2, I adored Vox, the voice for the first time hearing it I did not like it as I agree that it should've had some type of effect to his voice but as the episode went on, it was able to grow on me especially with the song, to me it gave off the vibes of a TV host which was probably the intention, I still liked the voice but if it an effect on it then I'm sure it would've been spotless

@@lucid_3938I meant it feels like they stuck this plot line IN THE SHOW to make the audience feel sorry for Angel. A single episode's worth of focus on a very complicated issue is shallow at best. It still comes across as mostly pity-bait and to make the audience root for Angel and hate Val rather than having anything truly meaningful to say about SA itself. And speaking as someone whose been on the receiving end of the pity train, it really infuriates me to see this "poor baby underdog victim" approach to subject. This is really a topic I think the vast majority of writers just shouldn't touch.

@@crazycookie4645 they had 8 episodes 😭 how could they have possibly squeezed more out. Also we see Angel stand up to his abuser 2 episodes later. Saying writers should leave this subject alone is also such an odd thing to say ?? SA and Rape are unfortunately such common and terrible crimes and they do get ignored and sweeped under the rug. Putting it into shows and making it affect already established characters makes it impossible for people to ignore this problem and the effects it has. I've noticed a big pattern with everyone with takes like this Saying "Viv and her team" If you're bias because it's vivziepop, even by accident I think yo put should probably take another look at how it's handled without hate fogged glasses because your takes seem like they're describing a different character entirely

I actually would have liked it if Charlie decided to seek sinners and hellborn who support her cause and let those sinners and hellborn stay at the hotel and maybe those sinners and hellborn could be volunteers as they use their skills to help both the hotel and help other sinners redeem. For example, a sinner who was in a war and dealt with trauma could be able to teach guests how to cope with negative emotions and mental issues in a healthy and moral manner. This sinner can also know how to fight in case an attack comes and also may know the best way to lighten things up for others with humor they might have used during to war to help those who they fought with. Another example, a hellborn who is a medic can provide healthcare and will most likely be one to try at least try to understand the guests in order to know how exactly they can help the sinners at the hotel. They will most likely also rescue and recruit sinners to the hotel after the extermination and be words of comfort in a world where comfort is rare.

I'm so glad I am not the only one who noticed! Its so frustraiting to see people overhyping this show for simply "finally coming out after YEARS of waiting". I'm sorry, but I won't give this show a cookie for finally coming out after almost six years only to give me such a lacking plot, which was also clearly gotten so many inspirations out of random fan theories seemingly, fairly lacking voice acting in many places, changes in our favourite character's personalities, which make them less unique from all the other sadistic villians like Alastor. Who till now was the most interestingly written character on the pilot! Now I only see another tumblr sexyman Bill Cypher wannabe for the girls to simp on, when he makes a cocky grin how evil he is. So much charm was lost which made hazbin hotel so interesting. And so many things rub me the wrong way which people overhype. Like Alastor showing his giant voodoo form while edgyly eating away those demons in the episode of Dad beat Dad, or on parts where he "finally" curses. It disapointed me on so many levels to see him break character when we literally met him as a completely collected character with boundaries and standarts despite being a Serial Killer who is the only refreshing person in this middle schoolly written show, who doesn't cuss "D•ck, C•nt, Fuck, Shit" all the time in every blown sentence. But oh well. I could rant till ages, even on the Lilith issue and Charlie, along with Angel and the others but that would be too long. Great Review! ❤

Oh my God, yes! I'm in an Alastor group and I'm the only one who has voiced my disappointment on how he is handled now. When I first saw his "redesign" I was so worried. So worried about his personality changing because he looked off. I couldn't elaborate on exactly why but I felt something was wrong and because characters are drawn to portray their role and aura they're going to give off in the story they're in, I wasn't thrilled at what I saw and Edward being replaced didn't ease anything because he was literally perfect for the Radio Overlord. Who was going to top perfection? Nobody that's who because Amir is no Alastor. No offense, no disrespect to him because he can sing but he does not grasp Alastor's levelheaded sinister charm the way Edward did. I was done, over it lol because I agree with you saying Alastor in the pilot came off as the more mature one who at times yes had his quirks but that was due to his showmanship that mixed in quite nicely with his southern charm. A nice notch to how you can see how he was able to trick others and hurt them since he was a cereal k!ller. Alastor came off as a chaotic neutral character with dark intentions and had some mystery that made you want to learn more about him but afraid to do so because you may have found out something that you weren't prepared to know. He also had a sense of self control and really only cussed when he wasn't around others because he was trying to keep up an image for others and for himself. We knew as an audience he was capable of having a potty mouth, however the rest of the cast didn't. (His comic) I was fine with him being part of the cast but not necessarily part of the story because he literally at the hotel to alleviate his boredom, not because "ouhh nuhh he's gonna betray Charlie" I'm sorry for the rant but I'm so sad at how he's getting handled because he's been reduced to a sassy, try hard edge lord. He's cocky and pretentious but it's okay because there are scenes where he gives the audience a smexy grin and all is right in simp land. He also acts like the rest of the cast when in the pilot he stood out for various reasons - a red clad gentleman who had nothing better to do with his time and just wanted to be entertained. I don't know why this shift was made but the creator did Alastor dirty and Edward was robbed

A quick recap of episode one. Hazbin Hotel’s pilot exists and has a better story to convey the situation. And while I like the beginning portion of episode one, it definitely feels less developed than the pilot. Moving on to episode two. Yes, the V’s felt a little unnecessary (or at least showing all of them) because they are simply introduced and yet Vox is the only one to do like… anything during the runtime that adds something to the story. Sir Pentious was hilarious and I loved every second of him both in this episode and throughout the series. The songs were also really decent in this episode. And yeah. The pacing is a major issue. It was the worst part of the series overall. As well. The show writers have no excuse for not putting in more effort because they only had eight episodes. (Also yes, I know I’m not apart of a company of writers or have some book out in the public, I’m aware I’m just a talking head on the internet). But if shows like Steven Universe (depending on the episode), Adventure Time, Ed, Edd n’ Eddy, etc. could tell a competent story in the span of eleven minutes, then the writers at Spindlehorse don’t get to pull those shenanigans.

But even if with that or any argument of “what if the deal falls through?” It is the FIRST SEASON! You are supposed to have things start slow in order to build up later, here they tried cramming a story meant for 3 seasons into 1. Like so many shows aren’t always guaranteed a second season when they premiere so does it make sense to try and do all the story they can into the very first one? imagine if breaking bad or avatar, because they weren’t sure if they get more, tried doing all their story in a single one. Hell that was one of korras big issues, they were repeatedly unsure if they’d get multiple seasons so they tried doing the whole story in one and once they learned they get another season they had to create a whole new grand fight for it and the cycle repeats

While I did enjoy the show for what it was, an indie project picked up by a mainstream studio/platform. I loved the music and the more sincere and dramatic scenes. I do have some nit picks though. Much like Helluva Boss the show has a major pacing issue. Granted that could be because they had to cram everything into 8 episodes (not sure who was behind that), BUT if I can make a comparison the show The Legend of Vox Machina is based of entire campaigns from Critical Role, it also doesn’t have very long seasons but it doesn’t feel like a race to the finish to tell the story. My other main issue is the handling of Valentino and Adam. Don’t make the evil pimp silly and stupid, just don’t. He was played up like this major threat by his treatment of Angel and then we get whiny dumb baby man. I mean seriously, if you’re going to make someone look like an intimidating force then make them an intimidating force! It was so confusing to see Angel’s tormentor basically have two different personalities. Just make him evil 24/7 if he is in a villain role please. That’s all I ask. My issue with Adam is that they made him such a dude bro! And that’s fine for an annoying one off character but not for a main villain. Some fans have theorized that Adam was used as an example that Viv’s version of heaven wasn’t any better than hell, which sure ok but they kinda already told us that with the opening story. And that Adam also represents the worst qualities of men, while Lilith will represent the worst qualities of women. But I felt like that they could’ve written Adam as more of a Frollo type of villain, very holier than thou with his personality. Maybe possibly have a grudge against Lilith for disobeying divine rules and since it was insinuated that the extermination was Adam’s idea, it could be his ongoing way of getting back at Lilith by eliminating her subjects in hell. Like I said, if you’re gonna play someone up as a major threat then let that threat have some power behind it. But that’s just my humble opinion.

I 110% agreed when you said it’s the fandom carrying the show, because the show itself is actually not that good. A friend of mine has a younger sibling who is actually obsessed with this show and for all the wrong reasons: They love the characters, not because they’re well-written, but because they’re very directly mean to everyone and throw cuss words all around. They also just relish in the adult themes. That kid is barely 12. My favourite part is the thing where Sir Pentious says sorry to Alastor, gives Al the piece of his coat back and Al just burns it. Ngl it kinda carried the episode💚

💚💚💚, Yah couldn’t take Val seriously because of his accent. I actually started to get annoyed with the 3 V’s cuz they felt too villainy- 2 dimensional. Reminded me of Stella😔

Honestly, I didn't expect Valentino's voice to sound like that the first time I heard it, but yeah, I can't really get a hold of what accent he's having. Like I thought it was German or something, but I don't know.

Val is apparently meant to be Hispanic which explains why he mixes in Spanish wording sometimes but that makes the fact he switches to German and American so much worse lmao

@jaidynromero1924 Oh dang, I didn't even know that. I really thought he was trying to go more of a German accent with that. Though, to be honest, valentinos voice altogether would not have been what I would've chosen. If he's meant to be an intimidating character, which he is to an extent with Angel, then his voice should be too. But I guess that's just my opinion, which I can understand. I just don't understand the voice direction Val was trying to go for XD. Thanks for the details about him, though! ^^

@@novatheflareon1368 it’s no problem! It was confirmed a while ago but I understand how most people missed it, it’s not a great dub at all coming from a character like Val- whos also like you said meant to be threatening and hateable- and as a Hispanic character I do wish his voice was just… normal, it doesn’t even have to sound Spanish but poor the accent mixing is something else… but ether way at least it’s entertaining! It got big laughs out of me and my friend when we watched it for the first time at least for how off putting it was and the fact he does literally say “Ja” at one point x,D

5:15 funny it's the exact opposite for me, I find the close up too rounded and not sharp enough cause round is not scary unless it's a contrast to the rest, for example imagen a really pointy and long character with big round eyes which force u to stare into them as they are the only inviting thing there, which make u feel like their staring back at u. But idk alastor's design by nature just isn't scary, some find him creepy but I just feel like they aren't trying hard enough to make him transform into something genuinely hideous. Rather they want him to look handsome the whole time regardless and it throws me off cause wuts the point of a scary transformation if u don't change to something scary? He should have more sharp corners and straight lines around his head and face, cause his round eyes don't feel out of place and that's why his "creepy gaze" fails to creep me out. It's OK to have him look the way he does normally but he needs to contrast with his monster form to catch u off gaurd. But in actuality it's expected and not that off putting

5:58 this frame of sir pentious is so silly I love it ANYWAY I like this review, I agree with a lot of your points here and some I disagree with. Though ngl I admit I have a thing for silly villains and antagonists who are goofy silly in general so I don’t really mind if Alastor is like that, but ngl I did prefer him in the pilot slightly more (still love him in the show though). Also I don’t really mind Val’s voice even though it confuses me whether he’s supposed to have an accent or not?? AND YESS YES YESSS I AGREE!!! it starts with sorry is SO underrated and I love it sm because we hear sir pentious sing for the first time and it’s the beginning of his redemption arc Ofc I think the highlight of this episode for me was Sir Pentious because he’s the best character

"Tea" IS 1930s slang 😭😭 it judt got popularised again recently. Also "sugar on the cream" is very on brand too 😭 the accent thing with Valentino is intentional ots supposed to represent his offputting and contrasting personality (s)
@Kittykatkittykatrando
@Kittykatkittykatrando 7 ай бұрын
It’s not intentional though because Valentino is meant to be Hispanic and he literally says Spanish sentences but he straight up sounds American and German in half of his sentencing- the messy accent definitely isn’t intentional

I agree on wanting to get to know the other characters more that we already had because I was saddened that Husk, Niffty, and Vaggie didn’t really get much development. I think I know why they didn’t since I watched a vid on merch sells and most times those characters didn’t sell out as fast as the other characters, so my theory is they didn’t feel the need to develop them cause fans weren’t interested in them. But that would be the BIG reason to develop them 😩 Vaggie is always a set with Charlie, Husk I feel like is going to be a set for Angel (I pray they develop my boi Husker with him), and Niffty…I kind of don’t mind if she didn’t get too much developed (I think she’s best as a comic relief). They definitely should have made the Vees a hinted threat throughout the season and giving their intro in their “respective” episodes (Vox in 2, Velvette in 3, and Val in 4).

Dude they nerfed that poor man so hard he used to be my favorite due to how fun bosco made him but the new effects and voice just lose all its charm and it's like everyone is doing pretty well but it feels like hes not trying all (this will always be why I have issues with non animated va actors it's an extremely difficult talent unless you have a super unique voice to many times ppl just use there regular joe shmo voice and it's like that's fine for live action but this ANIMATION where we go extra hard on the voices
