You don't really notice it first, but Alastor rarely swears in this show. So you know Lucifer REALLY angered him when he replies with a simple "F*** you!" instead of a witty comeback.

Alastor also defaults to an intimidating display of power when anyone even verbally skirmishes with him. With Lucifer, he didn't do a single bit of that. Because he knows he stands no chance in a power match. So he instead went for getting under Lucifer's skin with insults and taking his place as Charlie's dad. And it was kind of starting to work for a bit. But Lucifer definitely landed some verbal punches, and he also has nothing to fear from Alastor either. He's a nobody really.

Angel has an extremely deep respect for Charlie and affection. She was the first person to believe there was good in him, and expected him to be better. The irony in his trying to protect her from Val is that Val has absolutely zero power over her. She is the literal princess of hell, daughter of Lucifer himself. She has more power than everyone else in hell. But since she tends to refuse to ever use her power, and is so nice and cheerful all the time, most of the denizens of hell dismiss her as weak and a loser. Angel has been in that contract to Val for who knows how many years. He has been in hell for decades. Imagine the mental insanity you'd have to go through to survive that at all. It would be enough to split your mind to be able to cope. So of course he has an insane amount of bravado and overbearing sexual jokes. All to distract others from ever seeing what he's really going through. And to realize actual real people deal with these same sorts of things every day. And how very not afraid the show was to show it in all its horror. And probably most importantly of all, Charlie learned an extremely important lesson. You can't just show up and help everyone. Especially someone being abused, because anything you do is going to get taken out on the victim even more. They get put in the position of knowing your attempt will hurt them, they are the one that is forced to throw you out. The mindfuck is insane. He gets called a good boy for hurting himself.

At one point, during "Loser, Baby", both Husk and Angel are tied with ropes. And what's really clever is that the way the ropes are tied reflects their respective owners' personnalities. Angel's rope is messy cuz Val is an aggressive, in-the-moment kind of guy, while Husk's is neat because Alastor is neat, calculated and precise.

Deals are the one true currency in Hell, and it would be narratively unsatisfying for Charlie or even Lucifer to simply be able to snap their fingers and undo a contract. I suspect Season 2 will involve Vox trying to convince Val to let him use Angel's contract as a bargaining chip to get a deal with Charlie; as the Princess of Hell, even a far more limited contract with Charlie is worth infinitely more than an indefinite contract with Angel. Now, could Charlie simply march into the Vees tower and pull Valentino apart limb by limb while every single one of his goons watches helplessly because the power differential between Charlie and even the strongest of Overlords is absolutely cavernous, and tell him she will stop when he releases Angel? Yes, she certainly could, but doing so would violate every single one of Charlie's principles.

Episode 4- watching Angel dealing with the abuse that Valentino puts him through was so hard to sit through and when the episode first dropped amazon hadn't put in a warning yet so I was not prepared! I loved the episode, but was not ready. The last three episodes are amazing! ( entire season was). The voice of zestrial is James Monroe igleheart original portrayer of the genie for the broadway version of Aladdin . He is also one of the actors (there are others) who voice both a hazbin hotel character and Helluva boss character(s)
