Frank Sinatra said "Something" was one of the greatest love songs he ever heard. I don't know if it's still true, but a few years back Something and Yesterday were the 2 most covered songs in music history. Elevator music, orchestras, and tons of vocalists recorded versions of these 2 songs.

Amusingly, Frank Sinatra once said that Something was the best love song of the last fifty years, and his favorite _Lennon-McCartney_ composition. He later corrected himself. However, it turns out to be a massive compliment that ol' Frank liked this song more than any Lennon-McCartney song.

The Abbey Road record is, indeed, legendary. This was the final record that The Beatles would record, although "Let It Be" would be released later most of the tracks for "Let It Be" had been "in the can" for a year or more. Phil Spector would eventually finish the production on the album (which the Beatles hated) and it was released in 1970. The album is also legendary for the "clues" contained on it's cover that "Paul is dead". There was a false rumour that Paul McCartney had actually died a few years previously (before Sgt. Pepper's because that album and it's cover had "clues" of it's own) and had been secretly replaced by a look alike. The reason for this was that the Beatles were so important to the British economy that if the Beatles were to go away it would send England into a depression like America in the 1930s. So the clues were things like the Volkswagen parked in the background has the characters "28IF" contained in it's license plate and Paul McCartney "would have been 28 IF he lived to his next birthday following the release of Abby Road. Then there is the band walking across the street. John in while as an angel. Ringo attired as a minister for a funeral. Paull is out of step with the rest of the group and he is holding a cigarette in his RIGHT hand when he was famously LEFT handed. Paul is also barefoot, dressed in the manner a man might be buried in Italy (where Paul's fatal car crash was supposed to have happened). And George following up behind dressed like a grave digger might be. There were similar 'clues' in the songs, too. "I Am The Walrus" and "A Day In The Life" were rife with clues. Paul is still alive and whilst I never saw The Beatles live I did see Paul McCartney & Wings in Seattle back in '76 and he was very much alive that night. So was Linda.

The only Beatle who "hated" Spector's production was Paul. And to be honest I think he did a great job. And Paul's full of it because the Ram album is totally overproduced just not well.
@JimiBurleigh
@JimiBurleigh 3 жыл бұрын
@@OroborusFMA I have to agree with you about Ram being overproduced to the Nth degree. I have read articles and heard interviews with so-called industry "insiders" suggesting that Paul was primarily responsibile for the overproduction. He allegedly micromanaged the thing to death. The Wings records got much better musically as well as on the production side. At least I liked them. Saw Wings at the old Kingdome in Seattle. Great show given the horrible acoustics in that building. I had read a coule of articles indicating that none of the lads were satisfied with the Let It Be record. It is entirely likely that I just figured that they all had essentially the same problem with the production as Paul had. That's the problem with assuming anything, eh? Just out of curiosity, what did you think of the remastered Let It Be "naked"? For myself, I thought it a bit of a mixed bag. Some songs actually did strike me as benefiting from a fresh approach. I still love the original and frankly prefer it to "Naked:" overall. Thanks for the reply. Peace ✌

If you really want to understand what the Beatles did, look at what music was like the year before they came along. The biggest hit in the year before the Beatles hit was Sugar Shack, by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs. A pleasant song, but play it next to any Beatles song to see what changed. The top guitar work prior to the Beatles was Walk, Don't Run, by the Ventures. Compare the guitar work in that with anything done by Hendrix five years later. Before the Beatles came along, a lot of music critics were saying that Rock was dead and had lost all of its creativity. People were predicting the end of Rock music. You really should do a reaction video where you compare these two songs with the first works of the Beatles, and Hendrix. That will help you appreciate what a huge leap it was.

I generally don't like the whole 'listening for the first time'' thing, but HazeBruv's reaction is so infectious it makes me smile. Up to now, it seems he has tended to listen to The Beatles' later work, apart from 'Yesterday'. Nothing wrong with that, and I look forward to his reaction to listening to the whole medley on the second side of 'Abbey Road', which is yet another masterpiece. But I hope he has a listen to some of their earlier songs. I think he would like 'I'm Down', as he appreciated Paul's vocals on 'Oh, Darling'. Many of the earlier songs like 'She Loves You' were also revolutionary in their own way, but people hearing them for the first time today maybe don't realise that, because their style has been adopted by so many since that it has become standard. Of course, that is another great Beatles attribute, that they changed popular music forever.

"That Abbey Road album must've been legendary". It was. Still is! You've pretty much done the entire A-side at this point outside of Maxwell's Silver Hammer (one of their sillier songs) and Octopus's Garden (also a bit silly but one of their most underrated IMO); as many other commenters have pointed out, you have the journey of the B-side Medley still to undertake. It's so dang good :)

George Harrison wrote Something in September of 1968 during the White Album sessions. His fellow Beatles and producer George Martin were less than enthused with the song. After the Let It Be sessions in January 1969, The Beatles returned to the song the following April. These sessions show John Lennon helping steer George's melody in the areas where George himself hadn't perceived. John hadn't been contributing to Georges songs much, since Revolver's 1966 release, George knew what he had,. He wasn't going to waste Something on the inconsistent Let It Be soundtrack album. Late November 1969, after the Beatles ceased being a working band, Georges patience paid off. Something reached #1 on the American charts. Reaching #4 on the UK charts, Another great reaction HB. Cheers, RNB

@@jesusorbea2024 yes, all. In the ear of the listener who enjoys it. There’s lots of music that is not for me but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean the world to someone else. My point about the Beatles however, was that they showed people on a global scale that you can play any styles, you can do anything as long as you do it well and you do it passionately. Which they most certainly did and were.

They also did a killer cover of please Mr postman the old Motown standard and if you like their newer stuff like Abbey road then you would probably also like there earlier stuff when they were not quite as individual. When the Beatles first started they had a rawness but even though they were raw they eventually polished their act and made something that was very unique and at the same time relatable. When the Beatles recorded Love me do Ringo wasn't even doing the drums they brought in a session drummer because George Martin their producer thought Ringo's drumming was to raw for it. Another tidbit of information during the late 80s and early 90s there was an intense bidding war between Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney over the rights to the Beatles music catalog John Lennon was dead by that time and George and Ringo didn't have the money that Paul McCartney had, and eventually Michael Jackson ended up out bidding Paul McCartney for the rights to the Beatles songs and on them until he died.

After Abbey Road George released a Triple Solo Album... All Things Must Pass. First Beatle to release a solo album. First triple album ever released. He went on to produce A Concert for Bangladesh. The first world wide satellite concert for Charity. With a multitude of performers. He later was the financial backer of The Month Python films. Saved their careers. ✌️🎶🎸🎤🎷🎛️🎙️✌️

Sgt. Pepper album was the first true legendary album. In an interview in Rolling Stone magazine one of the top record producers said that when he heard the album, he cried. He realized that nothing he had ever done came close, he felt like he’d wasted his life.

Maybe the best of the top three songs about English Model Patty Boyd. (Married to George Harrison. The other two were by her 2nd husband, Eric Clapton, George's best friend.) About how great was Abbey Road - They'd been together for 10 years. What would later be the Let it Be album was already recorded waiting for Phil Spector to figure it out and put it all together. They knew it was time to break up and go their separate ways. They decided they would put up with the fighting to make one last great album. That's Abbey Road.

Try “Maxwells’s Silver Hammer” and “Octopus’s Garden.” Ringo sings “Octopus’s Garden,” and it is such a sweet fun song. I used to play it for my daughter when she was little and it’s still special to her. “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” is hilarious and fun.

HazeBruv @ 4:20 😉, it was and still is legendary! But take some important advice from someone whose been a fan since 1964 at age 9. Play ALL of Side 2 in its entirety starting with "You Never Give Me Your Money". There is a song before that one called "Because" you should do first as it's right after "Here Comes The Sun" you've already reviewed, and "Because" does completely end before the next song starts so you can do a clean video of it before the next song starts up and having to cut it off. After you do "Because" you must do the rest of the album ALL TOGETHER starting with "You Never Give Me Your Money" because that and after it's almost like one LONG song!!! That particular group of songs were legendary because it was the last time the Beatles jammed so well together. They broke up soon after Abbey Road. Although the "Let It Be" album was their last released album, most of the songs on Abbey Road were actually the last set they recorded together even thought the AR album was released before Let It Be. What also makes Side 2 of AR so legendary is they were edgy with each other, on the verge of breaking up when they recorded it, and yet they jammed that so well starting with that "You Never Gave Me Your Money", it was like they found their groove once again, one last time together!
