Brilliant song, a classic, with a fantastic sax solo, a song which is criminally underplayed on radio, I've not heard it there for years.

The early eighties was the swan song of the saxophone in pop music. By the late eighties they were gone except in ska-influenced music.

One of the best music tracks I've ever heard. Everything - the lyrics, voice, the subtle drums but above all that haunting saxophone beginning at 2:37. As others have said, the BBC cut it short here (tossers). Might be a big statement, but this is without doubt my favourite single of the entire 1980s, and among my Top 10 of all time.

Radio 2's "Sounds of the 80s" has moved from 10pm to 9pm and is now 8pm. They obviously think the new finish time of 10pm is our, and Gary Davis's bedtime. The fact that they follow it with another nostalgia programme Sounds of the 90s, with soon to be 39 year old Fearne Cotton making comments like "At Junior school me and my friends all knew the dance routine to this one" makes me feel really old

The BBC's charge-sheet is a long one. They destroyed the vast majority of their 1960s TOTP output by wiping the tapes of hundreds of shows. That's the public broadcaster, owned by us, that simply felt entitled to destroy all our teenage yesterdays.

Just read Hazel O'Connor recently had a serious healh issue... hope this talented woman pulls through.

That's hilarious. There's an interview with Hazell here on KZbin from 1982 where she says she stopped listening to Top of the Pops because music in the 80s was "such dross". Amazing how we reinvent the past as we get older, isn't it, and forget how crap a lot of stuff actually was.
