Today we have the HAZET 1000NM Challenge and we throw in a Harbor Freight Pittsburgh Pro just for fun. This all started because box and marketing material for Hazet Tools made in Germany has load capacity test confirmed by both VPA Remscheid and HAZET-internal quality tests to have the 916 HP meet 1000Nm. This new tool was released in 2018 and is completely “Made in Germany” at HAZET, from development to production. With a load limit of 1,000 Nm, the reversible ratchet 916 HP is setting new standards in terms of power. With approx. 95%, the ratchet is thus considerably above the norm, which stipulates 512 Nm. The HiPer reversible ratchet has super-fine interlocking with 90 teeth, which enables a minimum opening angle of just 4° and is thus suitable for the tightest of work areas. The 916 HP thus offers more power at similar dimensions to standard 1/2“ ratchets.
So let's find out if it can really meet and exceed the 1000Nm marketing and lab tested number. Word of caution, don't try this at home ever and always choose the right tool for the job.

I switched to Hazel HP for all of my work rachets over two years ago. Unbelievable specs, fine tooth, smooth, and comfortable handles. You can stand on them, wack them with a 2x4/hammer. Even the 1/4” drive ones. They never give me that “lock-up” when applying high torque. Of course I don’t use a 48” cheater like you! Keep up the great work.

1000 NM = 737.5 ft.pounds. on a 1/2 Anval. That's more than 2x what Snap on customer care recomends for their breaker bar with another 100+ extra ! From a fine tooth rachet no less! German engineering Rocks. (The Pittsburgh pro went to 470ft.pounds!) That shows you even Chineesium is getting better with modern metallurgy and heat treat processes.

@@jeffharper410 That's true. What is also true is that, for most cases, quality takes time, and the chinese took this time (and no ethics as well - copyright) , and as far as I can see, they could do much better tools, hi end costly quality tools, however, they didn't fall in to this trap. Low/mid range is the optimum for them as far as business concern. Thats just my opinion anyway. Greetings from Brazil buddy 🇧🇷

@@rafaelmoral8053 Your spot on , did you know that in Tiawan All Trade tools and others had German Engeneers build their plant. Taiwan can make extremely good stuff, the only limitations is the price point set by their clients. I've experienced some good tools made in several regions: Taiwan, vietnam, China,... even tools made here in Brazil, one of the most beautiful, stupid, welcoming and violent countries in the world 😂 My uncle was a chief engineer at a compressor company that was opening a factory in India, and along with some european engineers they projected and "built" the factory. He said that while they were building it, the indian people wouldn't let them take down a massive bee hive, that they should work along with the bees there with no problem 😂😂😂. Just so everyone realizes something. 2:28 That Pittsburgh took 641nm, which is 472.7ftLbs before it bent. 3:55 the cheap 72tooth ratchet pawls, the anvil gear, and teeth could reach and it appears between this video and the other 1/2 72tooth Pittsburgh pro torture test videos. That the 1/2 version of the 72tooth ratchets can hold 500ftLbs. Its just the ratchet shaft or cheap screw in the flex head that gives out. Not too bad. When you consider how much force that is. I mean your never going to be able to apply that much force by hand. And you should be grabbing a breaker bar not a cheater pipe for the ratchet if your are applying that much force. So what we learned he today is that when it comes to a 1/2” drive ratchet about 10”-18” long. Well ironically the cheap one it’s exactly what you need. Because you need a cheat pipe with a lot of force applied to break it. and well you should have switched out the ratchet for a breaker bar, before we got to the step that involves at the cheater pipe. And even more food for thought..... If a 1/4” drive is “easy” to shear off by hand. Than do you really need to buy a brand or manufacture that has the best internals? Because if even SnapOn can shear before 90ftLbs, do I really need internals that can take 150ftLbs. Sometimes a cheaper ratchet with internals that only take 100ftLbs will shear off within a few ftLbs of the SnapOn. Now if we are talking about long neck ratchets in both 1/4” and 1/2”....well I actually suggest taking it up the poop shoot and getting the SnapOn ratchets. Now anything under a foot long. is less than a foot from the pivot point. So I would have to apply 500ftLbs of force out of my hands to break it...so, just get the cheap one. Because not going to happen. ...unless it’s a long handle one you buy for leverage. That’s the one you spend the money on. But you can definitely save some money on most of your the 1/4” and 1/2” drive ratchets. Only spend good money on those that will see excessively hard duties for their respective drive size. Good talk.😂

The pawl broke but held , the anval went last. You can see the pawl broke in half and Jammed into the cog. It is still a great rachet but if you are over 300ftpnds. It's time to move up in drive size to 3/4. Liz from Snap on customer care gave me the recommended limits for each drive size. 1/4 * 30ftpounds max. 3/8 * 100ftpounds max. 1/2 * 300ftpounds max. It's not that it will break the 1st. Time you exceed working load limits ,it's that every time you do it, the steel is stretched, like bending a wire you may do it several times but sooner or later it will yeald then break. If you stay in limits and use a breaker bar to loosen the stuck faceners first . Then use the rachet . Tools can last a life time. Well grease those rachets from time to time aswell. 3/4 drive is said to 900ftpounds to 1,000ft.pounds max working load limit. But that did not come from Snap on customer care. So why not invest in a 3/4 breaker bar. I have a you tube up ,useing the Icon 3/4 inch 36" with a cheater bar. A very good tool for the 💰. I have some Hazet stuff ,love it. Great Rachet Hazet!

I have several 1/2” ratchets. I use them as the job dictates, however, only one of my 1/2” ratchets do I feel safe and comfy putting a pipe on the end of for leverage abd that’s my trusty snap-on flex head. Taking head bolts out for instance (I’m a small man), I put a pipe on the end of my ratchet and sometimes a snipe in the end of the pipe. You’d be astonished at how much you can bend this ratchet. Last set of head bolts I took out were rusted all the way thru the block of the engine we overhauled and it was a struggle to get these bolts out, to be light. I also have a harbor freight icon ratchet and it’s nice, but already has broken ratchet teeth from extra leverage situations.

I wish they would make a non-comfort handle design (Perhaps they do, I'm more referring to HF). I like the Pittsburg Pro ratchets because of their low back drag, but I hated the comfort handle so much I cut it off. Putting a pipe on it is harder with the comfort grip, plus the ends break off (e.g. not a tang-through handle). I find them harder to clean as well, the oil and solvents get kind of saturated in the tpm overmold. Having a ratcheting breaker/long wrench is really useful as it makes a great ratcheting torque wrench with one of those digital adapters. That Hazet looked awfully nice.

@@zznick660 yes. A brand new 72tooth flex head koken that's 11in. Are for sale on palmac. They are currently 100 dollars in stock. I love my snap on but I will always grab my koken, even the older 36tooth. My snap on is more of a novelty... to say the least

so, you're comparing a $144.00 ratchet to a $20.00 ratchet? seems reasonable

What was that? That was not a comparison at all ; if that is what you were attempting to do? Also, the HF tool did not fail, it saved your butt from injury as it slowly "told" (bent) you to Stop! We all know that Gedore and Hazet are quality tools, but many, many other manufacturers will do just fine. If you are reaching for a "pipe", you need heat, not more force. I would encourage you to come up with a different commercial to promote those German tools, rather than placing HF in a poor light ; HF is successful for a reason and they have put many tool manufacturers on notice..... including Snap-on.

What a ignorance... If it's Ft/Lbs then everything is fine but if its in metric system then is no no... For me Ft/Lbs means absolutely nothing but having google i can recalculate values from imperial to metric system without complain as long as the values are in numbers not in elephants olympic pools or football fields...

@@gmlover82 sorry but video made in English language does not describe which country has right to decide that imperial system should be used...
