So glad I found this video. My mother used to say in harimandir sahib, aarti was done same way as in Hindu temples but they stopped now. The fire ritual is so powerful. It must be revived.

That is exactly what we pointed out in the video and even explained the tradition of Shaster Puja. Two, there is also nothing wrong with having "photos" (like Puratan paintings) of our Guru Sahibs in the Gurdwaras. Charles Wilkins who visited Takht Patna Sahib in 1781 CE (only 73 years after Guru Gobind Singh Ji left the physical world), noted seeing a painting which resembles the same painting [of Guru Gobind Singh Ji] present today at Takht Patna Sahib. No one started worshipping that painting over the years, so there should be no paranoia about this too. Paintings are quite inspirational, and even Gurbani tells us (In Gond Mahala 5 on Ang 864 of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji) how one should focus on the Guru's image in their mind. If physical images did not exist how can an ordinary person (a beginner in Sikhi) even visualize how our Gurus looked like? If paintings are gone, I doubt that much of the youth would find inspiration to even keep their Kesh. The Puratan paintings are also likely a lot closer to how our Gurus actually looked like.
