I can remember being her with my husband when the ships docked. He loved to watch them. He died 5 years ago, so thank you for the memories. I have never witnessed a Greek ferry make a mistake. I know they have..like they all have...but I'll stick with my happy memories.

Agreed. Too many feeble minded viewers expecting a crash, even though the title is quite clear. KZbin is much more than vehicles crashing. I've been on this ferry and it brought back good memories for me.
@TheRepulsionGel10 жыл бұрын
Peter Sawyer Exactly, the title was perfectly clear, it's showing a docking procedure (and there are lots of videos on KZbin with ships docking without an accident). I've been on that ship (as well as its sister ship) lots of times and I fondly remember watching them dock from the decks.

minoan lines exist from 1972 connecting Pireaus with greek islands(specially creta) and also Greece with Italy...Its captains are the most experienced and this ferry line has been awarded a lot times for the best - safe-quality trips and services from european and worldwide awards for the meditteranean sea cruise services!!
@peterudbjorg12 жыл бұрын
So? These Greek ferry skippers know what they’re doing. I’ve watched them come into the bay in Skopelos, toss their anchor, turn 180 degrees on that anchor chain and back onto the pier in matter of minutes. Elegant and efficient!
@hbarkan12 жыл бұрын
When I posted this video there was no intention to make any statement about safety or whether it was dangerous. All I wanted to show was an interesting docking maneuver. I am surprised about the controversy it apparently created. Very interesting
@619sdbdub12 жыл бұрын
It's called a "Mediterranean Moor" when they tie up to a pier from the aft end. Usually ships like this will also use a secondary anchor at the bottom of the ship (vice the bow) and it probably uses azipods for directional control.

Great video. I've seen canal longboats here in the uk held fast by ropes. This ship is a lot bigger! Well done to the well trained crew!

I have to say the Greek ferries are some of the best in the world. And I'm Dutch and have no connection to Greece except having been there on holidays. I have been on many other ferries in Canada, US, UK, Scandinavia, Caribean and NZ, so I have quite a bit of comparison.

For all their irrelevants to ask why this video has so many millions of viewers I have to say it. First, why the title begins from Corfu (tourist destination), second because millions of people have great love for ships and the third that the approach of a ship in a port differs from place to place. Thanks for sharing Harry!

^^... I thought to find a dramatic video about a crash docking, with screaming men, women, children and old in water, gasoline in fire, huge waves, helicopters, firefighters, coast guard, army, air force, with bad weather with bolts and lightnings, while a giant squid winds slimy tentacles around ferry and docks.I was wrong.

@vascocourtney Err yes you do.Besides the only way this ship can be compromised with the current weather and wind conditions is if it was rammed by a similar sized ship. And i cant see any incoming. The Zebrugge ferry only capsised as the bow wave grew to a big enough height and entered the deck, with the doors open, thus destabilising the ship due to weight of water. That is simply not going to happen in this case.
@dimos47ki711 жыл бұрын
you are correct. Greece has so many islands and coasts (actually Greece has a longer coastline than the whole Africa), that it is only natural for Greeks to have a big naval history

@hbarkan Usually people don´t understand meaning of haste when commenting. If crew doesn´t put rails up before landing to pier passengers will drop to ocean. There was accident in northern europe where passengers were in hurry and walking tunnel was 5 meters away when ships doors opened, there were about 10 people who dropped to pier. Luckily no one died. and after that accident protocol was chanced that door are closed untill walking tunnel is connected.

@vascocourtney Actually I can remember Viking and Silja Line ships arriving harbor the visor up or ramps down during the 70's. It might have been as late as during the 80's when I was as kid with my bicycle on the car deck waiting for arrival in Turku or Mariehamn. Here I can see a risk of crashing the ramps or a deckhand falling to the sea and in the worst case getting sucked to the propellers. Time is money for shipowners but able seamen are expensive, too....
