As close to perfect as it's gonna get if we're being honest. Once they add the rest of the DC & CW, populate their Crunchyroll, Cartoon Network, Hanna Barbera and Adult Swim libraries and start airing spin-off content for GOT, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter - they'll be a full threat.
@magic754504 жыл бұрын
I think having a strong exclusive is key nowadays. The launch probably would've been so much bigger if it launched with a new GoT season. I don't think the Friends reunion would've been enough, but at least it would've gotten people to use the free trial.
@tomfriendly24124 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think their anime library is the weakest, which is understandable. Ghibli has some great films, but there aren't a lot of noticable anime in their Crunchyroll collection. Netflix's anime library is only getting bigger and better with the addition of One Piece, too. Sooner or later HBO will understand the value of the anime market just as Netflix has. Streaming services used to see it as a niche market oddly, but now it seems most have gotten better with that kind of thing. Although HBO's anime library isn't weak, it could be stronger. This is coming from a guy who barely watches two episodes of an anime before leaving my interest to rot. Although I do enjoy watching movies in the genre.
@OdysseyTag4 жыл бұрын
@@magic75450 Agreed. Originals are the lifeblood of any streaming service and is the key differentiator in this increasingly competitive space. An announced series like GoT's House of Dragons would have done wonders for them on launch.
@OdysseyTag4 жыл бұрын
@@tomfriendly2412 Absolutely. Netflix really surprised me with how aggressive they were with their anime offensive - both on the original and acquired side of things. Crunchyroll has got a myriad of anime series under licence that HBO should take advantage of including long-format Shonen titles aswell as the Crunchyroll originals now being made. Loosing the rights to Studio Ghibli is already a blow for Disney and an advantage for HBO in that regard.

Sadly, people think with their nostalgia not their logic. Disney+ makes no sense as an investment. It has nothing other than the mandalorian. And for that, you could just get a free trial after the season finale and binge it. But still they rushed at it like crazy because it's Disney. And since it created their childhoods most people eat up whatever they give them even if they don't try at all. And they rarely try these days

@@thecabbageman1 Disney does have some good content. For example, Gravity Falls and Phineas and Ferb. And let's be honest: Disney+ started strong with originals. At launch, they had about 7 origibals: The Mandalorian, High School Musical show, Encore, Jeff Goldblum show, Forky Asks a Question, Noelle and Lady and the Tramp remake. That's impressive for a launch, especially when compared to HBO MAX. While recently it looks like they don't have much to offer, they still had a Clone Wars season, Togo, Lamp Life (although it's just 12 minutes) and I think Call of the Wild was mabye also an exclusive.

This way i am able to to see fresh Originals, Movies, and Shows. I will see what's upcoming for the next month a few days before, then choose. I think it's the best way to alternate my viewing preferences....and of course i use Hulu for my locals, sports, news, etc.

Yeah, I’ve been using it for the past few days, and there’s soooo much stuff in my list. I’ve seen the classic Ghibli movies, but this service has so many more that I’ve been wanting to watch for a long time. Also, yesterday I watched Titanic for the first time, and it was amazing. They have the original Teen Titans which I’ve been wanting to watch ever since I saw how bad TTGo is. And they have Doctor Who. Netflix removed DW years ago, so I’m looking forward to rewatching that show. I’m going to watch 2001 A space odyssey, Cast Away, Alien, Aliens, Anastasia, Bohemian Rhapsody, and so many other classic films for the first time.

HBO Max also isn’t on the earlier versions of the Apple TV. My family and I tried watching Ford v. Ferrari on the old Apple TV the other day, and we had to do it on the Xbox because the app isn’t available on our Apple TV.

If HBO would just copy Netflix's search function and being able to search for genres. This makes searching and finding stuff such a pain i can't be bothered with it.

I loved the new Looney Tunes cartoons that I've watched so far. My brother, my uncle and I were laughing hysterically when we watched it. They really got the feel of the old cartoons for a new generation.

There's also HBO Nordic that works in the Nordic countries and it's basically been a smaller version of HBO Max for years now. All HBO shows and some others as well as tons of movies.

In the UK where I am from, all the Studio Ghibli films came to Netflix while in the US they went to HBO Max. Like I had seen them all before and love them so it doesn't matter where they are for me personally but I do wonder if they will be on HBO Max when it launches in the UK.

The Streaming Wars isn’t amongst the streaming services; it’s amongst the major movie studios. WB = HBO Max, Disney/Fox= Disney+/Hulu Universal=Peacock, Paramount/Viacom = Netflix Sony & Lionsgate= licenses their content to anyone Any other streaming service or minor service will disappear or be absorbed by the main studios. WB has arguably the best library over the last 100 years and they’ll eventually be on top once they tighten everything up.
@magic754504 жыл бұрын
I think Netflix is the only one that is handled by themselves. But yes, they made deals with Paramount. I think Amazon Prime and Apple TV+ will stay. Amazon wants people to buy stuff through them, and Amazon Prime is an incentive. Apple wants people to buy Apple products, and Apple TV+ is an incentive.
@markgarcia82534 жыл бұрын
1 # : If you wanna look at it that way. But just because the two biggest companies in the world have services and nearly endless money doesn’t mean they’ll play any factor in the streaming wars. They’re content is vastly outmatched compared to the major studios. Even Sony and Lionsgate can beat Prime and Apple+ if they started their own service. Because it’s the content library is what matters

I don’t get how everyone has so many streaming services. Like I have only Netflix and a service for premier leauge, but I might get Disney Plus when it comes here.
@EdwardNewgate584 жыл бұрын
It's mainly because of the exclusive rights to certain films and shows and the originals. Personally, I don't see the appeal of having so many at one time, especially in terms of all those bills adding up. I prefer sharing what services I have with friends or family who have services that I don't. For example if you have Netflix and a friend has HBO Max you can share each others accounts or whatever. I have the Disney bundle which gives me Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ (which I hardly use), and once I subscribe to HBO Max, that'll be the only services I'll pay for. As for other services? A friend of mine's lets me use her Netflix account in exchange for me letting her use my Hulu account. I'm not really interested Amazon Prime, CBS All Access, or whatever else is out there. I don't know what Comcast/NBCUniversal plans to bring to the table with Peacock once that comes out, bit I doubt I'll be interested, unless they have a decent library of Universal movies.
