Aragorn (especially as depicted by Vigo Mortensen) was the the perfect example of what a king/leader should be. Though he had great power, he never lorded it over anyone and always carried himself with humility and honor. Aragorn was one of my favorite characters from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Viggo Mortensen was the perfect casting choice for the role. I've even read that sword-master Bob Anderson (RIP) said in an interview that out of all the actors he trained in the ways of the sword, Viggo Mortensen was the best swordsman he ever trained.
@jimbeaux893 жыл бұрын
There are some characters in movies that just don’t look natural with a sword in their hand, no matter how much training they may have had. Vigo looks completely at home wielding a heavy bastard sword with just one hand. The dude’s a beast. Plus, he’s great with horses too so that helped with the making of the trilogy

@hugomorgan19973 жыл бұрын
He was a king before he was even close to being crowned. Not because it was his right, or because he earnt it. He was dangerous and he knew it, he was humble about his limitations and failures, he recognised that. which is why he was king from the very start. The acting though in this whole trilogy and direction was absolutely absurdly great. I don't think I'll live to see anything like it and I was too young to watch it in cinema by quite a way when it first came out. Aragorn as a character has all the development and nuance behind him to be the ideal of a ruler.

Unlike Boromir, Aragorn resisted the ring's temptation. Such a badass.
@SunbaeDan2 жыл бұрын
I believe it is a little more deep than that. Aragorn knew of his heritage as he learned of it from Lord Elrond when he came of age to know, and lamented over said heritage that, not only allowed the ring to exist into Middle Earth, but also became the line the fallen kings, in gradual decline and fall of Numenor. More than resisting the ring's temptation, I believe Aragorn denied himself entirely because he knew that before that he was a king, he was a mere man that is vulnerable to the temptations of the world that ultimately doomed his people to near annihilation. This quality is why he was the only TRUE king that can lead his people to redemption, as (in a very Christian centered belief, consistent with Tolkien's own belief) Aragorn embraced true humility in himself, while being a man truly compassionate towards his people, and embodying a true regal nature befitting a King. Yes, badass indeed.

I'd argue the LOTR is moreso his story than Frodo's .

My favorite was always Legolas. But now that I’m older, it’s definitely Elissar.

Daniel Day-Lewis also auditioned for the role as Aragorn. It would've been interesting his method acting was similar to Viggo's when he prepared for his role as Hawkeye in The Last of the Mohicans. He basically lived like a native american and carried all his weapon and equipment like his tomahawk and musket everywhere he went and Hawekeye and Aragorn are quite similar characters as a native american and a dunedain ranger.

Peter Jackson’s first choice for Aragorn was indeed Daniel Day-Lewis and he offered (no auditioning required) the role to Sir Daniel multiple times who declined due to being retired from acting at the time. Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio convinced Sir Daniel to star in Gangs of New York which ended his hiatus (1997-2002).

Nah. Blasphemy. No one can be aragorn besides viggo lol. Only two characters should never be recast. Viggo as aragon and RDJ as iron man.

That last scene is the most brilliant of the entire trilogy and no-one will convince me otherwise

7:59 This my favorite moment of the whole trilogy, and of all the movies I've ever seen. The leader of mankind, sword aloft in his horse, guiding humanity against the forces of evil. So beautiful.

I still maintain, it's Merry and Pippin charging after Aragorn that shamed the Western troops into fighting. Their 2 dimunitive figures running to meet orcs and monsters shamed the brave but battle weary warriors to a last effort
