The gray rifle is much harder to find than the black. It's similar to the white Accessory Pack rifle, but it is actually gray and matches the gray of the figure's boots and gloves; I've seen sellers always trying to pass off the white AP version and sell it at a premium claiming it's the Python Patrol variant, but there's definitely a difference between the two rifles when side-by-side.

It's weird. The webgear and weapons from the Cobra Trooper and Officer make more sense switched, but every other detail makes more sense with the original assignment. Even the collars on the shirts, so just swapping torsos doesn't really work. I've often thought that replacing a few Cobra Trooper and Officer heads with Python Officer and Trooper heads respectively would make for nice variations.

Great review, I had this figure growing up, now as a collector I have both variants, I know python patrol was weird but I still liked them, my favorite is the python viper, having some of the python patrol helped me to have more cobra forces to battle with, wow seeing these figures sure bring back memories when it was cool to be a kid, going over to friends houses and creating our own combat environment for our figures, those sure were the days.

Because I didn't have any Cobra Troopers or Officers as a kid (because I got into the line in the Mid 80's) I really like this guy. I was mostly excited to have a release of this mold.

I dig Python Patrol. I recently picked up a Python Patrol Relampago figure from the Estrela line and it is a sweet figure.

When new I disliked the Python Patrol and other repaints of the classics and avoided them but in recent years have come to really enjoy the Python Patrol and collected quite a few of them.

Cobra Commander applied a little CC&D with Python Patrol, switch up the officer and trooper uniforms to keep the Joes guessing

My son asked me to do the same so one figure was all black. We also swapped the legs with the Python patrol Crimson Guard the green and grey seemed to look better.

Random yap: I know Hooded Cobra Commander only covers up to 1994 but am I the only G.I. Joe 1980's kid that just recently saw the 2005 Cobra HISS? Saw it at comic book shop last month, in the Vintage G.I. Joe collector section. I asked What is that? Never seen that before. Bought it after quick search on YoJoe!.com to make sure it is an official Cobra vehicle. The rear opens up to carry 4 troops, something I always wished for the 1984 HISS, which originally was supposed to carry troops, but cost cutting measures ruined concept for it. But yeah... like 2005 version alot... except for the terrible designed Night Creeper driver it comes with. Ok back to Hooded Cobra Commander.

The chest with the web gear makes more sense on the trooper but I would have switched the head molds so the officer has the triangle symbol on the helmet.

I stopped collecting Gi Joe in the 80s when they started recoloring vehicles and figures. I started again a few years ago due to HCC788 and other vintage KZbinrs, but I have not bothered with Python Patrol yet because their look just doesn't warrant the prices they fetch on eBay or in vintage stores.

It's awful. And by that, I mean your review of this figure. In the Python Patrol sub-line of figures, Hasbro did a fantastic job reusing and repurposing figures released almost a decade earlier. I can only hope that 2021 Hasbro follows suit with their "G.I. Joe Classified" line. I'd love a Classified version of Python Patrol Trooper.

It seems even Hasbro got the trooper and officer mixed up considering the recent Classified version of the Python officer is clearly based on the trooper and not the actual officer lmao.
