when i was 18, many, many years ago, i wrote to ian, asking if i could become his rodie. well, he actually wrote back, and i still have that note. it was so moving and informal. i was always grateful for it. a great guy who was obviously brought up right. still an example for the rest of us - not just of being decent, etc., but just an extraordinary artist

This man has to be the most intelligent, insightfull, nicest, most decent, most influental human being on this fucking planet! I think I'm not the only one who could sit for hours and just listen to his wisdom! His music and his lyrics taught me so much! Thank you Ian!

I miss the days going to record store and looking through the what was new. I always bought the albums of the bands I liked. I miss going to shows but you just don’t see shows like Ian’s anymore. I always loved the way Ian thinks about drugs and alcohol. Some of the many reasons I quit playing in bands. I couldn’t find people that would show up sober.

This is great. I saw Ian do a Q&A at the old Vera project on 4th Avenue around 2003 or so. I had a video camera but Ian specifically requested no filming. I'm glad that he changed his mind on that over the years. It's great that this has been documented.

It's comforting to know there are souls in this world like Ian. I love his sense of humor. And how many would start a talk with And if you do not want to ask any questions and be silent I too am willing to just stand here silently for two hours. A quote I love "Learn silence. And at least with your friends, with your lovers, with your family, with your fellow travelers here, sit in silence sometimes. Don´t go on gossiping, don´t go on talking. Stop talking, and not only on the outside - stop the inner talk. Be in an interval. Just sit, doing nothing, just being presences to each other. And soon you will start finding a new way to communicate. And that is the right way. Start communicating through silence sometimes. Holding the hand of your friend, sit silently. Just looking at the moon, feel the moon, and both feel it silently. And see, a communion happens - not only communication, but a communion. Your hearts start beating in the same rhythm. You start feeling the same space. You start feeling the same joy. You start overlapping each other´s being. That is communion. You have said without saying anything, and there will be no misunderstanding."

I'm glad I saw this video. You know it's good to just be happy and work hard and live a good life even when you have challenges. I choose to work to live rather than live to work if that makes any sense. This video is great and I'm glad I found it. Being positive in life is a great thing even when things can get bad. I work customer service so I always try to make my day a great day all day every day no matter what. Hope that inspires others the same way. Ya'll have a great day.

PUNK WILL NEVER DIE!!!!!! As long as there's a PISSED OFF KID!!! whom picks up a guitar!!! Whom discovers the CLASSIC PUNK LPS.... It just keeps going cause it's a GRASSROOTs thing!!! The real DIY thing to make ur band GO! There will always be PUNK! is it gonna be the same to the old timers that have been around like me? Not really. It won't have the GRIT or FEEL that I like!!a But it'll still be PUNK! just in different ways. NIRVANER was a PUNK BAND!!!! They broke the mood of standard 4/4 beat n stuff. It changes but it keeps GOING!!! I KNO while I'm alive... I'll keep promoting and staying PUNK till I die!!! I have 30 years of it in me!!!🤘🎸🤘🎸🤘🍻🍻🐒✊

One thing about breaking edge I have a problem with is when people are dishonest about it. I'm not straight edge, but I support being honest. People who claim they are "STRAIGHT EDGE FOR LIFE" should really watch their words. It's understandable that people change, but you should never claim you are down for something for life when you think people just change. You would think would be more aware of themselves and who they are, or they are just liars were wanted to be part of a scene.

MT is one of my all time favorite bands, but my problem with Ian is that he engages in revisionist history and acts like he was a peace loving punk back in the day, and that is simply NOT true. He led the charge back in the day for invading NYC and starting fights with NY punks and skins. Ian was vicious in his youth, and I don't understand why he won't simply own that.

So he was financially comfortable and grew up in a healthy environment. 'didnt feel the need'? Of course not, the need to self medicate is almost entirely born of abuse and alienation. How could he not make that point? For s'one so articulate he lacks empathy that a human of age ,experience and observation should have learned
