Those '99 sets from guys like Van Dyk, Armin, Tiesto and Paul Oakenfold are just too epic. So classic. That year was the peak of Trance music. Sure, the production quality wasn't as high as it is now, but there was a freshness to the sound that just isn't matched nowadays.

Remember this clear as day, was standing right in front of the decks with a couple of my mates when PVD was on. I still even remember him puting the For an Angel vinyl on to the turntables at the end. Great Ibiza memories :)

(the night the ice explosion machine fucked up)either way i was at all radio 1 stuff that week. I was Fan Man cooling many hot people with my fan. I do however remember for an angel-one of my favourite tracks of all time. In fact i've just heard the judge say friday i didn't think it was essential mix that was from money penny's if i remember correctly. And yeah was deffo totally mangled still from thursday at cream and a little friday night boost aswell.

Yeah... the Radio 1 Ibiza weekend's of today, aren't a patch on what they were, through the 90's. Sorry kids, but, you missed out big time. Okay, yes they're on a much bigger scale now than yesteryear, in regards to attendance and location, but the actual quality of the music and general atmosphere/vibe has suffered as a result. In many ways, the modern day Ibiza has become a victim of its own success. The 'masses' spoiled it.

Pretty standard speed for PVD back then, van Dyk was known for playing fast as most of the Berlin DJ's. Recorded speeds for trance then were 133 at the slower end, then 136 more common usually UK producers, then 140 van dyk, blank + jones, signum etc. But remember when djing the records were played at the higher end of the pitch scale on the technics 1210 which had +8% pitch maximum. So van dyk would have his records between +5 and +8 per cent of 140 which equals between 147 to 151 bpm.

I had it on my I-Pod but it lacked the last few vital minutes, ending at for an angel. This was almost 20 years ago mind, I don't think Pete Tong gets the same buzz today because he must feel a bit like a kids entertainer as the age gap between him and the kids in the crowd is now absolutley massive, in clubs and on radio - 3 generations almost. Also he is at the end of his radio broadcasting career, he must be conscious of that, he has had an amazing run, but Radio1 sacks everyone in the end sadly..as they desperately try and stay "relevant".

I've been listening to the guy for nearly 10 years now and sounds like he changed more from 99 to 04, than from 2004 to now! Nothing But You was released in 2003. And he original was made by Jemstock & Henings. PVD just bought the rights and mastered it/made it better/more trancey. You will also see pvd credits both of them in the title of track.
