I'm on-board with adding more trains to the Canada Line to ease overcrowding but extending the platforms longer for maybe a 4-car train would be even better. More capacity on the line, potential steep increase on ridership, and promotes more people to ride it. This can only happen if TransLink is EVEN planning on a project to do so.

The platforms below ground can not be extended to fit four car trains so that will NEVER happen.

I always thought that a good place for a station would be at 16th avenue, at the empty lot where the gas station used to be, Cambie Village really still relies on buses as the walk between broadway and King Edward is pretty long.

The trains are designed to go 90kph and some sections are slower on purpose so if desired, the "fake" speed limits could be removed as the new infill station opened

In my opinion, the YVR terminal station makes sense, but the 57th Avenue station I oppose, Unless Translink honours my Transprot 2050 suggestion for a route 57 bus that travels from: (Dunbar Loop through W 41st Ave, then south on MacDonald St, then W 57th Ave to Cambie, then north on Cambie St. to Langara-49th Stn, then W 49th ave, then south on Main St.), through E 57th Ave, Argyle Dr., E 54th Ave, then north Tyne St, to then finish up in Metrotown the same path as route 49. This, in my opinion is better because it not only would give more options to customers, but also would ease overcrowding of the superlatively boarded route 49. It also would help Langara students that need to get from campus to the station as 57 would serve the same purpose as 49.

While Oakridge is set become a sea of high rises, there’s still not that much office space under construction. The vast majority of jobs will still be downtown, unless more area around the mall is rezoned.

With frequency potentially getting up to 72 seconds and a middle c car added eventually, capacity will be a lot higher than now. Should the Canada line have had 4 car trains and 80 metre stations? Probably. But unless we want to spend a billion dollars lengthening stations in the near future, this is our best course of action.
@jmstransit
@jmstransit 2 жыл бұрын
Not to mention we can still turn sections of the train car into longitudinal seating for a small capacity upgrade
@FirstLastOne
@FirstLastOne 2 жыл бұрын
They can NOT lengthen the underground stations without shutting down the Canada line. By far the worst station to extend would be King Edward because it's stacked. There will never be four car train-sets on the Canada Line. It would be MUCH cheaper and far more efficient to build a new line running from downtown Vancouver down Granville Street to 70th then round over to the Canada Line Marine Drive Station and continue along Marine Drive/Marine Way to the Expo Line 22nd Street Station.

Regarding the #Canada Line between Oakridge-41st and Broadway-City hall, it would be better if there was an express segment to improve capacity yet reduce overcrowding at 33rd Ave in the future and King Edward by adding a parallel track on the east side adjacent to existing tracks along the stacked segments. Then there would be more room on local trains while express trains can carry passengers bypassing those stations and have a slightly faster journey. Since the tunnels along the segment were built stacked with cut-n-cover, expanding the existing tunnels to add parallel stacked tracks can be done with also cut-n-cover.
@jmstransit

Not sure if you want to repeat cut and cover again, hard sell

No one wants to do cut and cover again, that's why Broadway is going with TBMs. Regardless... wasn't the Oakridge-King Edward segment of the line stacked because it was such a headache to cut through the rock in that zone?
@FirstLastOne
@FirstLastOne 2 жыл бұрын
How much do you think that would cost? You'd be surprised at what the cost will be to dig up around that cut-n-cover casing to do that and it still wouldn't make a difference because all the train-sets would end up backing up at Bridgeport. FYI, only King Edward station is 'stacked'.

I just really wish Translink & SNC Lavalin would double track the Richmond Brighouse - Lansdowne segment so there isn’t such a wait heading to Waterfront. I definitely think with the 12 trains sitting in the yard being in service would add a whole lot of capacity. I wonder if Translink plans to buy the additional middle C cars for the current rolling stock and expand the required stations platforms before 2030. If not I guess it will happen within the 2050 Translink strategy plan. I guess we’ll have to see when the funding comes through which is usually around the federal or provincial election time Lol.

@@cxffeebr_ak yeah pretty much even the Evergreen extension at Lafarge has two tracks. So does the spur tracks for the future Pitt Meadows Skytrain at Coquitlam Central. Only line that’s got this terrible configuration of a single track is Canada Line at both YVR & Richmond Brighouse. Absolutely insane they went through with that but then again political dollars and Olympic money was at play here. There was also the scandal with the B.C Liberals using SNC to cheapen the cost so we get what we get! I’ll say that P3 infrastructure projects are unique in how they get a lot done with little finances but they come with lots of cut corners. Something we will pay for in the future.

@@cxffeebr_ak Technically there are two terminus tracks, considering there are two southern terminals for the Canada line (Richmond and YVR), though Richmond clearly has higher demand than YVR.

They should extend the train past the front and rear doors and go over the station length. the train its self does not need to fit in only the doors do

Have you ever measure just how much space exist between the front/rear doors and the end of the platform? Do it and report back. I bet you won't once you see it's not enough.

Canada Line is Underbuilt because each station is too small to accommodate 4-trains, like Expo or Millennium lines.... Adding more stations does Not add capacity.... and the new stations added are not even necessary, just to appease condo developers... eg, Capstan only 5 min. walk between Aberdeen & Bridgeport... Ever saw Expo or Millennium adding stations since built?
