I've just found you today and you've convinced to do the right thing, I've been in my little van on my own since mid January 2020, I'm on the south coast so generally the weather is 2° warmer than the rest of the UK, non the less is was wet and cold but I've come through it and I'm still here. The big difference is that I work full time but thoroughly love my job so I will use the income to support myself, my job is freelance in the construction industry so this will give me the opportunity to travel and live and work. I have loads of questions but this Q and A session has helped me tremendously. Keep the videos coming, I'm an avid fan and will be following your exploits with a keen interest. Your a great inspiration, your a great couple, now go enjoy your great life. Martin. P.S. you will see more comments from me in the future.

Hi Martin, Thanks for your lovely comment. We adore hearing from other, like-minded folk, who have chosen to live alternatively. I’ve got an idea brewing in my head, whereby we interview and feature other people. Would being interviewed about your lifestyle interest you at all? We’d send the questions in advance that we’d discuss 😀 Until then, feel free to browse the rest of our channel and we look forward to hearing from you again soon! 😀

Life has been so difficult and our children have suffered more than we care to imagine. This has been one of the hardest decisions we have ever made but we’ve made it now and the count down gets more exciting every day. We have four little Bees so we have had to make lots of changes to the caravan to accommodate everyone’s needs. You guys are an inspiration! We love you in our house! And your videos help, a lot! Hats off to you guys. I live on a narrowboat, lucky enough to give up a job that in the end I hated, with dreadful management, low pay and stress. I live off a very modest rental income from one property that I have managed through an agent. You must have had one hell of a mortgage to have to work all those hours! We are the enlightened and lucky ones who have cut some ties with the rat race. I know how you feel about telling people you do not work or do not live in a house, but I have come to the conclusion that no matter how you live your life, someone somewhere has to spout off their negative opinion. I wish you both well and look forward to more videos of your adventures!

Live and work as a campsite warden. Use a family member's address for DVLA, banking etc. They will already be paying Council Tax and you will just be another 'body' registered there. You won't need to pay council tax on your caravan.

Hi guys, lovely video and congratulations on your first six months. We have just completed our first 12 months and like you we love it. Im fortunate to have a small pension which covers our monthly expenses so dont need to look for work. We havent done a seasonal pitch so therefore our monthly fees are double yours. We tend to use club sites in winter to have access to laundry facilities. In the summer we used mainly the small CL/CS sites. We agree with you, our lifestyle has brought us so much closer. We would not volutsrily go back to a house now. In addition to a Safeill bottle I also have an Esso fuel card (accessed via the offers in CAMC) which gives me a saving on the diesel for our car. Enough from me. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Amazing video guys. You are an asset to the van community because you come across as very knowledgeable and presentable too. So many good points! So glad you are enjoying your alternative lifestyle. You might want to get rid of the sofa and stuff in the garage sooner rather than later as the damp can get into the fabric of the sofa. Another thing regarding having a camper v caravan - a small camper van to tow your caravan would allow you to venture out when you need to leaving the caravan as your main base. The pay off would be additional space for your needs. You can even have someone to stay over with a camper and they would have their own room to sleep in. Keep going for it guys! Live your beautiful dream!
@TheMcNeillsonWheels5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for your comment. A small camper is something that has crossed our minds but our only option financially, would be to self-convert a panel van. Campers, although incredible, are just too far out of our budget. We’ve cleared our lock up now so no worries there 😀

@@TheMcNeillsonWheels Yes that’s the dream lol. We are currently in a very similar situation to you pre-touring. Both want to downsize our work and get time to explore the world (probably just the uk at first). Looking to either rent out or sell our home and you made some fair points to convince me of the latter. We don’t currently have a van but have spent time in them in the past and my partner spent time living in a narrow boat with her mother(her mother currently lives there full time and has also sold her house). I’ve spent the past few days trying to work out all the ways of doing it full time. The only difference is we also have a young boy of 4 who we hope to home school. Which makes it extra difficult as from what I can see most warden jobs are as a couple and full time. Our current plan is to spend about a year saving, for a caravan, to pay off debt, and to have a buffer. Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your suggestion. Was there anything in regards to storage that you’d like us to particularly focus on? Downsizing is a challenge and having the lock up for the first year was definitely a help. We still have too much stuff, but we’re on a journey to reduce what we own. Having the van also helps as it’s like having a mobile shed!
@imissmypandacar5 жыл бұрын
Hi, well I have no lock up and no van..it’s a nightmare lol, most storage is under the bed. Any nifty storage solutions you have found let us know xx
@TheMcNeillsonWheels5 жыл бұрын
I think for us, it’s just been a case of really diminishing what we own and keeping what we have in the caravan as organised as possible. Something has been enormously helpful has been how we use the folding bunk beds as extra kitchen workspace. The upper bunk, stripped of furnishing, has become a long worktop, which is incredibly useful. This summer, I plan to replace it with an actual worktop offcut and build in storage underneath.

Hi Steve, Our network provider for mobile service is Three who do a sim only package for £20 per month with 100GB data and unlimited calls and texts. Vehicle insurance is location dependent so I cannot tell you what to expect to pay. Likewise, vehicle fuel consumption differs enormously between people therefore I cannot guide you in this respect either. Hope this has been helpful.

Sorry for the delay in replying! It's quite a task to keep on top of comments! Most sites will offer you a set price for a season provided you pay up front for 8 months or so. This is the cheapest way of getting set up but limits your ability to travel. If you'd like greater flexibility and aren't fussed about facilities, then approach local farmers who may allow you to stay on their land and use their basic facilities for a reasonable fee. I hope that this helps :)

Why do you think that living and traveling full-time in a caravan in the UK is so unpopular? There are so few YT channels about this lifestyle in the UK, why do you think this is, compared with say countries like the USA, Canada and New Zealand, where the RV lifestyle is expanding in leaps and bounds?
@TheMcNeillsonWheels5 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, Great question. To be truthful, I don’t have an answer to it. It’s possibly due to those people who choose to live in caravans being looked down upon. Also, until the las 15 years, house prices were more ‘affordable’ than they are today and changes in social culture take time. Certainly a very interesting comment. Thanks for getting in touch. 😀

Do you have free RV camping in the UK on public lands, like we do in the countries mentioned above? I know they do in Scotland.

Hi Alan, Sorry for the delay in my reply. The UK, to my knowledge, doesn’t offer ‘official’ free public camping grounds. In Scotland, roadside camping is tolerated by virtue of the Scottish Land Reform Act though bylaws are appearing in areas where anti-social camping has caused a nuisance.
