Question: do faster drives have better 1% lows? E.g. I'm using a 1TB KC3000 (7000/6000 mbps) as my main drive, but I have tons of games on a 1TB A2000 (2200/2000 mbps). Load time differences are almost non-existent, but could there be a difference in 1% lows?
@MrMeanh2 жыл бұрын
I would say no, this since the small random read/writes (that games mostly "uses" for asset streaming and what is impacting the lows in most of these cases) isn't much better/faster on the fastest Nvme's compared to regular Sata SSD's.
@AncientGameplays2 жыл бұрын
Most likely not, it could be true to a certain extend IF (and only if) the SSD was being the bottleneck as it happened on the HDDs
@AncientGameplays2 жыл бұрын
As for the radon red/writes i have to disagree, a decent NVME has quite higher randoms then a sata nvme, not even comparable
@wakingfromslumber9555 Жыл бұрын
Yeah my 8 year old sata ssd was the cause of micro stuttering and when I put my OS as well and some games on to the NVME the random micro stutters faded away. These micro stutters would occur when too many things such as explosions were happening at once. So even with a Sata SSD the difference is noticeable.

Not only that. I don't think some people are even aware of this, as I wasn't for awhile. If your internet is fast but you're using an HDD to download games off of steam, your HDD can actually be bottlenecking your download. PCIe 5 SSDs dont do absolutely anything for load time basically (margin of error difference really to PCIe 4) but does it improve smoothness and eliminate or midigate stutters in UE5 games notorious for the issue or a game like dead space remake? 2. Does having OS on a seperate SSD to the games matter? 3. Does having games on an SSD connected to a chipset PCIe lane rather than a CPU PCIe lane matter (connected to question 2 because having 2 seperate SSDs most of the time means one has to go on the chipset m.2 slot). Furthermore is having the OS on the chipset lanes and games ssd on the cpu lane a stupid idea to avoid an issue or would u be causing one?

@@AncientGameplays Not exactly, Really depends on what you want to do with it since you can allocate as much or as little ram as you like as ramcache (L1 cache). You can Also do what I did with Primo cache and use both L1 to ram plus L2 cache to a spare ssd, you can set it to Flush L1 cache once/if allocated ram is full to L2 cache on the spare ssd (need to set a dedicated partition for Primo cache L2 Storage) It was pretty cost effective and hassle free process overall since I didn't have to change anything in my system other than add an extra ssd (smallest fastest and cheapest ssd I could find) and dedicate it as L2 storage drive and set the individual Read/Write cache space all to 100% read which ment that my hdd would read files like it's on an ssd but writes files like an hdd. which is slow I know, especially during installs but write speeds doesn't really affect games as much as read speeds plus it reduces stress on the spare ssd that has l2 storage drive. The only thing I would caution anyone from using l2 cache is that there is a small possibilty of data corruption with defffered write (setting you need enabled to speedup caching, also contains the flush L1 cache to L2 cache option) Especially during sudden power outage and you don't have a UPS, There's also the fact that the effects on loading aren't emediate (on L2 cache) on first run of the application/games you have cached, it'll only take effect after the second time you load up that app and primocache has it saved in L2 storage. Frm time to time I would also pause the cache task when I'm installing something on the hdd to reduce unneeded stress on the spare ssd with the L2 storage on it, and in some cases I would even delete the cache task completely if I'm installing something really big (100gb+ for GTA5) cause read and write activity is really high during installation and depending on how much L2 storage you have it can get filled up fast during installion (Not really a problem if you only have L1 caching enabled in PrimoCache and have lots of ram) so it's something to keep in mind when using PrimoCache.

I recently reinstalled Skyrim on my newest system that has Gen 4 NVMe (Max Read 7415 MBps, Max Write 6800 MBps), it loads so fast that I don't even have time to read the load screen tips. So I guess that HDDs do have the benefit of being slow enough to allow you read load screen tips. lol Edit: I bought my first SSD back in 2012, was like $180 for 240GB. That was when they were still SATA, way before NVMe, but even still it made a huge difference coming from a 7200rpm HDD. The newest NVMe SSD's are leagues faster.

Hello. Until I upgrade the new system, I paired the AMD fx 6300 processor and the rx 6400 graphics card. I have an hdd and 8gb ddr3 1333mhz ram in my system and it stutters occasionally in games. Do you think if I buy an ssd, will this problem be fixed, at least for games that require 5 gb ram.If I add another 8gb ram, will the stutter go away in all games?GPU usage varies between 40% 60% 70% 80% depending on the game. Usually there is a problem in open world car racing games, open world thanks.

@@AncientGameplays Thank you for your reply. Even though a SATA SSD is slower than a M.2 SSD, can the M.2 cause more stutters given the fact that is using GPU/PCIE Lanes can it cause interference leading to these stutters?
@MrTHORN742 жыл бұрын
If your mobo is layed out correctly then you shouldn't have pcie lanes crosstalk. But the throughput of nvme should kill a sata SSD. I just don't think any game is really going to take advantage of that higher throughput yet.
@bowriing2 жыл бұрын
@@MrTHORN74 I get you everything is in it's correct place I was just wondering although it has higher speeds could it be less table because of the higher frequencies
@MrTHORN742 жыл бұрын
@@bowriing the mobo manufacturers test for that kind of interference and design the board in such a way that it should not happen. That part of why they are getting more expensive, it's getting harder to do without getting parts interfering. As speed goes up the path traces need to get shorter to maintain the faster speeds.
