The 4 wires that show no-connection in the first cable tested are all grounds. This is a common issue with cheaper cables which simply leave out those wires to cut costs. This does not mean that the cable won't work since these cheaper cables rely on the source and display electronics to do the grounding, which they do in many cases.

do you know how the tester works? is it testing for voltage drop across the pins?

Evert Chin Probably just continuity.

Priceless is an understatement with 1 crook cable, with 2 crook cables it's a life safer, cheers

We have a new 50-foot HDMI cable that works fine for a laptop and three monitors through a 4-way splitter. 4 lights out of 20 do not light up. It would appear that not all the wires are needed.

After having had a problem with a satellite receiver where the provider tech support was blaming my TV, I wish i had this then. Just happened to have a spare HDMI, so that was my only way to isolate the problem.
